Women Baring their beasts at a fire engine......

I was nightshift on New Years Eve into new year's day in the city centre tre. I couldn't believe it when a group of drunk ladies decided to flash at the guys in the fire engine I was in. I actually had to lock the cab door as they were trying to climb in when we were stopped at traffic lights.
Why the hell would anyone think that's acceptable in an emergency vehicle.
I was mortified for them!

Thanks mockney, I think most of us are aligned,,

Thedrownedsubmariner · 03/01/2018 18:14

Quite intrigued to see a firefighter of any gender referring to the appliance / pump as a "fire engine" throughout a thread as lengthy as this one HmmWink

noeffingidea · 03/01/2018 18:17

It was the attempt to get into the cab that turned it into sexual harrassment, IMO. Seeing naked breasts as you drive past isn't really harmful or threatening, any more than seeing a naked bum is.
Exposing genitals takes it to another level, as is recognised by the law.
Got to agree with the posters who think it's cheap though. I can remember getting drunk many times with my mates, none of us would have dreamed of doing this. I think I would have literally died of embarrassment if anyone had seen my boobs.

Hannah4banana · 03/01/2018 18:20

Only someone with knowledge of the service will know it as a pump. None of my friends and family recognise the term hence why I used it here.

But has OP actually stated her role? Firefighter? Investigative journalist? Recovery driver?

Hannah4banana · 03/01/2018 18:25

Definitely a firefighter. I have been for 12 years. If I said women were trying to get into the pump/appliance how many people would know what that meant? If it's more than a couple then I accept I was wrong. Now my actual honesty and job is being questioned. Got to love mn!

Did they never watch 'London'Burning' OP? Taught me all I know about the job Grin

Hannah4banana · 03/01/2018 18:27

I’m shocked that you’re shocked OP. My husband has been a FF, then CM, then WM for 20years. He’s seen all of that regularly, as well as people trying to physically rip his clothes off him when he goes to a late shout in the town centre. He’s also had stones thrown at him, people abusing him, people trying to fight the crew.

He can cope with all this. What he can’t cope with is the endemic sexism, racism and homophobia from his own crew and the force as a whole. The service is simply not interested when he complains. So he’s leaving.

Nicknacky · 03/01/2018 18:34

peppa I'm actually embarrassed for you. Do you honestly believe the rubbish that you have came out with about legality?

As for the op calling it an engine instead of a pump....I still refer to a police station instead of a police office and call McCalls RS McCalls etc. Are we doubting her because of the language she used?

Hannah4banana · 03/01/2018 18:39

Really sorry to hear that Janice. As I have said a million times. I wasnt shocked I was embarrassed on their behalf. I have been the only female at my station since I started so I'm made of tough stuff. Just dont like to see other females degrading themselves while I'm at my work in front of my colleagues. Plus I value my job and my reputation where safety and protecting ourselves from a major headache is concerned.
I hope your husband is happier in a different role, I have been lucky, I love my job and hope to retire after my 30 years service, all services are different. Maybe he could try a transfer first?

It's disgusting behaviour. I spent my 20s working in bars and the behaviour of the women was generally 100x worse than the men so it doesn't surprise me in the least

I'm pretty disgusted by the sweeping generalisations up thread about men not being as uncomfortable as they pretended to be - it's akin to a man saying 'she loved it really'.

Some interesting attitudes all round

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 03/01/2018 18:45

There are an awful lot of women who are much bigger than the average man... just saying. I'd say that women who try to get into a fire engine when it's stopped at the lights are very much more determined than the average man.

I'm making light of it because otherwise I'd b annoyed. Men and women have the right to get on with their day without this casual sexism and the apologists that support attention-seeking women who think they can do as they please. Nobody can. Nobody.

The only thing to do when you see a fire engine/ambulance/police car is get out of the bloody way so they can go where they're going. Does that really need saying?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 03/01/2018 18:53

I agree.

At best behaviour like this is distracting and could cause a delay in responding to a call-out.

At worst, it is highly offensive and could even be life-threatening if the crew couldn't drive to their destination because of half-naked drunken twats hanging onto the appliance like bare-breasted limpets!

And what if one of the stupid cows fell under the wheel?

Has Peppa disappeared? Perhaps she forgot how to breathe in and out and is suffocating on the floor somewhere?

DreamyMcDreamy · 03/01/2018 19:22

AS long as you realise then that all breastfeeding women could also be charged with indecent exposure?

What part of it are you not getting? How are you equating feeding a baby with unwanted sexual harassment?
Breasts for feeding baby - fine.
Whopping them out "for the lads" when they haven't even expressed any desire to see them or for you to act sexually/or physically aggressively (which trying to get into a cab half naked unasked would be) -not OK.
How can you defend that type of behaviour? Cos it's a man so they must want it really or think it's funny? Hmm

Slarti · 03/01/2018 19:23

When men sexually harass women they convince themselves and each other that it wasn't serious and secretly she liked it. Unsurprisingly women do exactly the same.

yerbutnobut · 03/01/2018 19:27

Sadly I have to say that some young womens behaviour on a night out is worse than young males. My nearly 20 year old DS goes on regular nights out and is often telling us of girls behaviour similar to what OP has mentioned, lifting their tops and pressing themselves on windows when moving from bar to bar, shouting at the tops of their voices disgusting things and one particular bar where there is a 'photo booth' (not a booth at all but there you go!), posing in ways that I would really hope my young DD wouldn't be when she's that age, worst thing is these are uploaded on the bars FB page so anyone can see them and the girls know this, they seriously have no shame!

DreamyMcDreamy · 03/01/2018 19:30

100%this.I thought the exact same.

MistressDeeCee · 03/01/2018 19:58

So some women bare their breasts and judgey pants are almost hoiked up to the nose to start with the "most young women are bad". No - they are not actually. But the type of jealous older woman with youth envy would have you think so.

& yes it's the case that not all men are bad. But why the bloody hell are you comparing?

Do you read about rape via breasts on an almost daily basis? If so, where? Barely a day goes past without sexual harassment and/or sexual assault and rape of women.

So when you're comparing, if you can't even start from an equal playing field then your tactics aren't right are they?

How are breasts to be compared with a penis anyway, has the vagina gone walkies?

This thread is on the verge of "young women are asking for it". Disgusting reverse ageism and sexism.

Hannah4banana · 03/01/2018 20:03

No one said they were asking for anything... But I didnt ask to have their breasts shoved in my face either!

OP posts:
Hannah4banana · 03/01/2018 20:06

I didn't even say they wee young!

Notreallyarsed · 03/01/2018 20:06

I think that sums it up perfectly, we should all be able to go about our business without body parts shoved in our faces!

Slarti · 03/01/2018 20:07

Christ mistress you've done some linguistic somersaults and painted the harassers as the victims! Did you mean to do that?

MrMeSeeks · 03/01/2018 20:10

So because women are harassed and abused so much men shouldn't complain when it happens to them?

TheGoldenBowl · 03/01/2018 20:27

This sort of shenanigans undermines the fight against the Harvey Weinsteins of the world

No. It doesn't. This is the problem with this thread. I'm not saying OP intended this, but, from page 1 we've had this undercurrent of comparison , all this unnecessary confusion as to whether breasts are "the same as" penises. The thread was only in its infancy when we had all the "if this had been men..." bullshit.

If we didn't have this in-built agenda to try to trip up women all the time, there wouldn't need to be any comparison with men on this thread; it would be enough to state that, in and of itself, the women's behaviour was poor. It was ridiculous behaviour, totally inappropriate and also irresponsible. The end.

But, instead, we have this stupid hand-wringing where we pretend "this proves women are just as sexually abusive as men" and the sad little comments about undermining the case against Weinstein. Ffs.

Some people simply live for threads like this so they can chide women and somehow 'prove' that women have these terrible double standards. Pathetic.
