Openly judgmental towards tattoos?

StandardRussian66 · 03/01/2018 14:48

My OH is tattooed from the neck down. They are cultural tattoos and he is a big guy, over 6ft and does body building.
I knew him years ago when he didn’t have the tattoos and when he was slim. Strangers were nice to him, and treated him like any other person. But now, he finds that men tend to square up to him on nights out, shop staff and waiting staff are abnormally abrupt and people in general is just openly quite hostile towards him. It makes me sad, and makes him anxious about going out.

AIBU to think most people aren’t this ignorant that they can’t see past the ink and see that he’s just a normal guy who wants to be able to enjoy a glass of coke in his local pub without men puffing their chests out at him whenever he walks by?
I thought we were over this in this day and age.

Hilarious.

@RoseWhiteTips You're the one who has been posting your disgusting views all over the thread Hmm

Floellabumbags · 05/01/2018 14:06

Oh god, I have to hunt him down so I can see this monstrosity!

The guy who did all of mine was at art school and the owner of the tattoo shop asked him if he'd be interested in an apprenticeship. I'd assumed that he'd get a pork loin and practise on that but he did it on his thighs. In his own words "I've got some fucking shit ink on my legs, mate"

Skadespelerskorna · 05/01/2018 14:06

I don't understand people who believe that those with an 'alternative' appearance are 'craving attention'.

If I dye my hair purple... It's because purple is my favourite colour and I love how it looks in the sun.
If I get a piercing or a tattoo... It's because I love how it looks.

It's not because I want extra attention. In fact, I'd rather be the loner in the corner of the room than the centre of attention.

I understand I may attract attention, but that's not the reason I do these things... It's because I feel happier with them and feel more confident in myself. Because I feel better when I look in the mirror with these things than without.

Surely that's pretty simple to understand.

mustbemad17 · 05/01/2018 14:10

Skades don't be silly, you do those things so that people notice you & remark how unhinged you are 😝

Purple's my fav colour too...sadly the last time i tried to dye my hair purple it went, well, wrong 🙈 I am insanely jealous of women who can get it the right bloody shade

FindoGask · 05/01/2018 14:12

That is abundantly simple for most people to understand Skadespelerskorna, and is similar to what I said earlier. But unfortunately there will always be those who seem to genuinely struggle to see other points of view, so prefer to wallow in the comfort of their own assumptions instead.

specialsubject · 05/01/2018 14:34

You may not want attention but it is going to happen, it is how the human race is made. No one should make any comments and should look away quickly and not stare.

That's ' should'. We wish.

Don’t be ridiculous. Those defending the use of tattoos have been the abusive ones. No doubt the thread record shows that.

StandardRussian66 · 05/01/2018 14:38

Judging really really doesn’t bother us, which I think is where the thread has gotten confused. Ive been judged in much worse than my tattoos, it’s the rudeness that bothers us.

I hope this means I’m not going to have to read anymore of Rose’s inane comments.

My part:

Coconutspongexo · 05/01/2018 14:42

Read froginaponds and nitros comments if you think those defending tattoos have been the most abusive

FindoGask · 05/01/2018 14:48

Rose herself had such larks baiting an obviously upset poster about her appearance, saying that she would have looked terrible on the occasion of her wedding and that no-one apart from her husband could possibly find her attractive.

mustbemad17 · 05/01/2018 14:51

😂 at Rose trying to say she has been sweetness & light on this thread 😂 Best joke i've heard all day!!

Skadespelerskorna · 05/01/2018 14:51

I use Mystic Violet by Schwarzkopf. It goes really dark on the first application but does wash out over time to more of a burgundy. Sometimes I find it not purple enough though!!
I used to use Dark Tulip by Directions but that washed out quicker. This has more pinky/rose tones in with the purple. Directions are good as you can blend shades to create a unique colour if their base ones aren't right for you. Smile

I will agree it's hard to find the perfect shade... Both of the above ones have too much of a red undertone in it to be The One for me.

(Sorry for a bit of a tangent)Blush

mustbemad17 · 05/01/2018 14:53

Skades i had mine done professionally - involving a lot of lightening as i'm fairy dark - and even that didn't work 😩 I got a very interesting shade of pink out of it once...still to this day trying to fathom that one out 😂

Skadespelerskorna · 05/01/2018 14:55

mustbemad

Unfortunately I'm too poor for professional dye treatments 😂 have had a few though as a treat but can't maintain them.

DecoysBitch · 05/01/2018 15:18

Cesareans ftw.

Apart from that I don't know why the argument has become about vaginas; back to the sex thing I think, though I don't know why.

Surely its aesthetics, some of us think indelible ink on the body detract from human beauty, others don't: that is it.

Floellabumbags · 05/01/2018 15:20

There we go. Voice of reason.

mustbemad17 · 05/01/2018 15:22

Skades me too haha, he paid for it before he buggared off 😂😂 too poor for anything nice now!!

Decoys exactly!

MarsBarsAreShrinking · 05/01/2018 15:28

This is pretty appropriate for this thread I reckon...

Openly judgmental towards tattoos?
DecoysBitch · 05/01/2018 15:40

But my earlier points still stand. I don't like them. I still think it's going very mainstream. And a lot of the tat- friendly like to judge us non- tatted and make assumptions about our lives - don't like that ( see last meme) : Works both ways.

mustbemad17 · 05/01/2018 15:44

Decoys i reckon that more tattooed folk have had people verbalise their judgements in the street than those without tats. Not sure where i'd find stats for that but it's just a hunch...

DecoysBitch · 05/01/2018 15:55

Because it's more visible of course, still happens though.

mustbemad17 · 05/01/2018 16:01

But that's the point of this thread. Human nature is to judge, anyone who says they don't get a judgy thought from time to time is a fibber. But there's a big difference between someone thinking it & someone harassing you in the street cos they just have to make you aware of how shitty your life choices are 🙄
