to be frustrated by plus size bloggers

First of all I am plus size myself but I find the plus size bloggers out there to be really disappointing in terms of the outfits they show and the message they put out.

There are some bloggers who wear clothes that are 2-3 sizes too small either because they think they are that size or because (most likely) they want to show off the fact they are fat because its all they talk about in between their fashion photos. I'd rather just learn about the clothes not to read defensive posts all the time.

And there are other bloggers who wear ridiculously bright clothes, lots of in your face make up and jewellery to seemingly 'hide' the fact that they are plus size.

Where are all the 'normal' plus size bloggers? with normal looking clothes that people would actually wear, that actually fit them, who have an interest in fashion without pushing a particular 'cause' down our throats in every second post?

I quite like becky barnes and arched eyebrow. Their blogs are relatively normal and they are of a similar size / shape to me.

Wannabe Princess is the worst. Nothing personal but her blog comes under the first category above. She doesn't wear clothes that actually fit her or are in any way fashionable. Diamond and Pearls comes under the second category with the OTT make up/jewellery/clothes. Neither of them do plus size people any favours, contrary to what they might think, they just make us more objects of fun.

Can anyone recommend a blogger who promotes clothes people would actually wear and that actually fit?

The least they could do is acknowledge that instead of encouraging it with clothes that that make them look even bigger.

What the hell?

No one has to dress in a way that pleases other people.
No one has to dress to try and look smaller (or bigger).
No one has to dress in whatever damn way you want.

And, fyi, no one else's health or weight is any of your damn business.

Judydreamsofhorses · 31/12/2017 22:29

I’m not the same size or shape, but have followed Bethany from Arched Eyebrow since she started her blog years ago - I love her style and her general vibe. She gives good Insta-Story too.

NotACleverName · 31/12/2017 22:30

Basically I want a blog that is honest, for those who are sizes 16-22, with clothes people would actually wear, and not a blog that pushes an unhealthy lifestyle or makes larger women even more of a laughing stock. I'd feel more comfortable about my size if I could find more such blogs. I'll say no more on the subject now.

What's stopping you from starting one yourself then?

IncyWincyGrownUp · 31/12/2017 22:30

Ah. A fat shaming thread in disguise.

OP, get off the blogs if you don’t like them. I’m way fatter than you. I wear things that aren’t loose and obfuscating.

It’s my prerogative to do so. If you told me I shouldn’t I’d laugh in your damn face.

Wear what you want, same as everyone else does.

OhWhatToChoose · 31/12/2017 22:34

Sprinkle of glitter use to be about make up but over the last couple of years has matured her channel as she herself has got older.

Expect a little bad language and a lot of honesty. She is about to have a baby and I love her videos

froginapond · 31/12/2017 22:40

@whatlauraloves is gorgeous. And she looks so nice in those outfits.

But although I think having good body confidence is great, I don't like obesity being celebrated. Laura isn't obese BTW, I am just saying someone who is morbidly obese (more than 10 stone overweight,) should not be celebrated, as being that large is very unhealthy, and frankly it doesn't look great. (Especially if someone is wearing something tight.)

I don't see this thread as fat shaming at all. People are way too sensitive. Have people got to be scared of posting ANYthing that is not positive FFS?! Hmm People should be allowed to have non-positive views without being lambasted.

Bet people would not be bashing the OP if they were criticising thin people. Hmm

London Beauty Queen is about size 18-20. She used to be mainly beauty but this year has started to do lots of fashion on her blog/instagram.

Charolais · 31/12/2017 22:57

I have often wondered why plus size women wear clothes too small and then when tunic top shopping on Amazon I saw something that gave me a clue.

The tunic sizes were S M L 1X 2X 3X and 4X. (US) These tunic are supposed to be very loose, swingy and go good with leggings - I have several of them in different colors. In the questions there were several woman asking about sizing for themselves and stated their weight was anywhere from 250 to 300 lbs I was amazed at how many of them wanted the tunics to be form fitting to show off their figure. One lady who said she was 250lbs claimed the large size looked good on her. (If I was 250 lbs I’d get the 4X myself).

I concluded these women who wear clothes that look too small are proud of their figures, rolls ’n all. Good for them I say.

itshappening · 31/12/2017 23:02

Well you don't really want a plus size blog from what I can see OP. You want a blog with someone a similar size to you or smaller but a bit overweight, who blogs about fashion. Those will be rare. The pressure and judgment is such that there is little between the thin fashion bloggers who fit the conventional mould for their role, and the people who are confidently putting themselves out there and ready to defend themselves against critics in the way you dislike. Someone who lacks that attitude and is not happy with clothes that reveal their actual size would probably struggle too much with the slating they would get online for daring to care about fashion without being skinny.

CaptainBrickbeard · 31/12/2017 23:08

If you’re an hourglass shape, even an overweight one, baggy clothes look awful and I find fitted outfits are much better. There isn’t much point trying to hide away, nothing will magically make me look like a size 10. So I might as well wear something that shows my shape rather than draping a tent over myself and hoping no one notices that I’m overweight. They will anyway! I’m an 18 and I don’t wear anything too small but I do wear pencil skirts and bodycon and now and again wen choosing between outfits, I might not pick the one that makes me look thinner. Which is essentially what people mean by the word ‘flattering’. But sometimes I want to wear the outfit I love even if a darker colour or different fabric would smooth away a roll a little bit better. I’m not obligated to try to look as thin as possible all the time.

Chouetted · 31/12/2017 23:44

I'm an overweight hourglass and I have terrible trouble finding clothes that fit. Once you go past size 18, there seems to be some weird assumption that everyone looks like Dawn French and lives in tents.

I'm tall and broad. I wear men's socks and gloves cos women's don't fit. My healthy weight is a damned plus size. I put on a couple of inches and suddenly I'm supposed to buy clothes for really short morbidly obese people?

peachgreen · 01/01/2018 00:58

I am just saying someone who is morbidly obese should not be celebrated

Because their weight - which you have decided makes them unhealthy (with no medical assessment) and unattractive (a subjective opinion) negates all the other myriad positive attributes they may have? Hmm

Good grief. What a ridiculous thread.

juliesaway · 01/01/2018 01:42

Some of the women on these sites aren’t “plus size”, they’re super morbidly obese. I prefer to call it what it is. Everyone should be able to buy nice clothes but the “healthy at any size” crowd are just ridiculous, some of these blogs fees into that mindset and keep people really unhealthy and normalise obesity and it’s terrible impact on long term health.

Sparklesocks · 01/01/2018 02:41

Danielle Vanier, Callie Thorpe and Bethany Rutter are my faves

IndigoMoonFlower · 01/01/2018 03:21

Ive bought some great plus size clothes from Magenta Rose Designs, not a blog about plus size people but a UK designer who designs for plus sizes as well as tinier ones.

Sn0tnose · 01/01/2018 03:30

Your post sounds full of shame and self loathing and I think that you're projecting your feelings onto these women. You sound really disgusted that none of them are prioritising weight loss over whatever it is they are writing about. Is it a plus size blogger you're looking for? Or a weight loss diary?

I'm not a huge fan of blogs, but I've seen some of the ones mentioned up thread and, to me, they seem to be written by women who are saying 'this is the size I am, these are the clothes I like'. None of them are claiming to be Anna Wintour. If they like bright colours and bold accessories, then why is it any skin off your nose? If you don't like that style, then find a blogger whose sense of style you do like and follow them instead.

Wouldn't it truly be something if, instead of judging other women's bodies, whether they are too thin, too fat, too modified, too old, etc, we just accepted that we come in all shapes and sizes and that the world would be a very boring place if we all looked the same. If you don't find a particular look visually appealing, just move on and don't be an arsehole about it. Don't do the whole 'men prefer this or that' or 'you're a bad influence on impressionable teenagers' or 'you're glorifying obesity'. If you want to change the way you look, then great. Good luck. But why be disgusted because someone else doesn't want to, just to fit in with your idea of what women should aspire to? I think we've all got enough to deal with, without being made to feel like we should hate ourselves for the way we look.

RemainOptimistic · 01/01/2018 04:28

OP you've got to separate all these issues out.

Do you want a fashion look book?

Do you want a debate about body size?

Do you want a lifestyle blog?

Do you want styling advice?

Personally I'm quite happy to follow bloggers and not interact on social media at all, just take the positives from it and ignore the words flying around.

I've just looked at FFFB and the most recent posts the clothes aren't too small and she states the size of them is 18/20/22 so not sure what your issue is there. Some of the swimwear and lingerie is too small but that's because the manufacturer didn't send the correct size and she states that in the blog.

Blogging to the level where you have thousands of followers takes a lot of time and effort. The people who do it are self selecting. There's no committee choosing who gets the most followers. I find that refreshing, people are expressing themselves without being editorialised and I can feel a sense of connection.

I think it's a shame there aren't many size 12-16 bloggers but it makes sense from pp that there are reasons behind that.

Maybe I'll start one!

Polkadotties · 01/01/2018 04:33

I’ve followed Fuller Figure Fuller Byst for years and I’m a size 10. I love her attitude, her style and her outlook on life. I’m no where near plus size but she has helped me with many of my issues

IndigoMoonFlower · 01/01/2018 05:10

DO people actually buy from bloggers? I never have. If I like something I look to see if its in my size- and if it is, I buy it. I don't get why following a blogger and buying her clothes are important? Isnt that like copying someone's style? I'd rather develop my own.

Surely, if you like something you wear it? Who even cares what bloggers are wearing since they're probably paid to do so and the blog posts could even be a ploy to sell you those clothes. Im plus size, have been for over 20 years and most likely always will be. But I will always buy things because I like them, not because of any blogger.

Creambun2 · 01/01/2018 06:16

Plus size bloggers are essentially promoting having a heart attack.

instauration · 01/01/2018 07:11

Good grief. What a ridiculous thread.

Of which your insinuation that we can't know that somebody 10 stone overweight is unhealthy without a "medical assessment" is easily the most ridiculous part.

traceyturnblatt · 01/01/2018 07:25

@Creambun2 that's all they are doing?

I'm not plus size but I follow a lot of them on Instagram. Most of them are just taking them pictures of their lives and selfies just like anyone else. I follow them because I love their confidence and acceptance of their bodies. I don't have that.

They don't just promote heart attacks, have you ever actually read anything that they have written?

MaisyPops · 01/01/2018 07:34

OP I'm surprised what you're after isn't already out there. It sounds like you're hoping for a plus size fashion blog with ideas fir dressing to flatter a larger figure.
But what us out there is loads of blogs where obese people do the whole 'i dress wacky because I'm so out there and if i own this ridiculous look it deflects from my size' and unhealthily large people giving each other pats on the back about how awesome it is to be a size 28 and 'love your curves fat hun' because you know what you can totes be a size 28 and super healthy and you know really it can be much better than being a size 12. Hmm

I think your best bet might be look at the inspiration pages of shops with plus sizes rather than a single person's blog (as they're probably more into 'yey hi five to all my fat huns')

ReallyConvolutedCareerHistory · 01/01/2018 07:42

OP you might want to search for "inbetweenies"

One of them is icurvyworld.com/
