to be frustrated by plus size bloggers

First of all I am plus size myself but I find the plus size bloggers out there to be really disappointing in terms of the outfits they show and the message they put out.

There are some bloggers who wear clothes that are 2-3 sizes too small either because they think they are that size or because (most likely) they want to show off the fact they are fat because its all they talk about in between their fashion photos. I'd rather just learn about the clothes not to read defensive posts all the time.

And there are other bloggers who wear ridiculously bright clothes, lots of in your face make up and jewellery to seemingly 'hide' the fact that they are plus size.

Where are all the 'normal' plus size bloggers? with normal looking clothes that people would actually wear, that actually fit them, who have an interest in fashion without pushing a particular 'cause' down our throats in every second post?

I quite like becky barnes and arched eyebrow. Their blogs are relatively normal and they are of a similar size / shape to me.

Wannabe Princess is the worst. Nothing personal but her blog comes under the first category above. She doesn't wear clothes that actually fit her or are in any way fashionable. Diamond and Pearls comes under the second category with the OTT make up/jewellery/clothes. Neither of them do plus size people any favours, contrary to what they might think, they just make us more objects of fun.

Can anyone recommend a blogger who promotes clothes people would actually wear and that actually fit?

I’m definitely WAY BEYOND PLUS SIZE. Because apparently plus size only goes up to size 18, or something... 😒

Thedietstartsnow · 31/12/2017 21:26

Tess yes that's her name, quite a fit hubby if I remember rightly.plus she's just had a baby too.

Deckthehallswithjammydodgers · 31/12/2017 21:27

Jessontheplussize is fab i love her on instagram she is hilariously funny wears clothes that fit her and is honest about her size

RavingRoo · 31/12/2017 21:28

In the fashion industry a plus size model is 8-12, yes. This is why size 12 plus size bloggers get the more expensive clothes etc. However, they aren’t generally taken very seriously by the target audience - all of the most popular plus size bloggers are over a UK 14, most are over a UK 16z

PennyDreadfull · 31/12/2017 21:31

Temptress which blogger was that? ("me love you long time")

CaptainBrickbeard · 31/12/2017 21:37

FFFB doesn’t wear clothes that are too tight; she wears fitted stuff but it fits. I follow champagnecurves as well. I think she’s a size 20 probably, or is that ‘way beyond plus size’??

Thedietstartsnow · 31/12/2017 21:38

So a plus size us 8 to 12 ...I'm confused..is plus not up to size 30

Thedietstartsnow · 31/12/2017 21:38

I'm on the wrong thread me thinks

fcek · 31/12/2017 21:40

I didn't say 'way beyond plus size' was over size 18, I meant that it's my size and there are too few bloggers of around this size. I take size 18-20. I'd consider 'way beyond' to be maybe higher 20s and above size wise. I do hope to lose weight myself but need to look fashionable in the meantime without looking like my clothes are about to split.

I mostly follow FFFB and curvy wordy but the latter is more lingerie stuff
I'm an inbetweener - size 14 bottoms and 16 top. I do post the odd outfit pic etc on instagram but just normal clothes! Like day to day outfits

lookingforthecorkscrew · 31/12/2017 21:42

I don’t think you get to decide what’s ‘way past plus size’ OP.

CaptainBrickbeard · 31/12/2017 21:45

Well, I’d recommend the FFFW FB group as you get a range of styles and sizes on there and a lot of every day stuff.

haveacupofteaandamincepie · 31/12/2017 21:48

Fat bashing thread from a fat person. Good work OP.

Invisimamma · 31/12/2017 21:49

I had no idea plus size blogging was a thing but I need to refresh my wardrobe so will check out some of these. Thank you!

NotACleverName · 31/12/2017 21:50

Some bloggers are so defensive, if being so big weren't an issue, why protest so much?

Because people make it a fucking issue HTH

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 31/12/2017 21:51

Jessontheplussize is fab i love her on instagram she is hilariously funny wears clothes that fit her and is honest about her size

Thanks for this suggestion. I'm an 18-20 (although don't plan on being this for much longer) and Jess seems very much the sort of style I like.

I don't really follow bloggers becasue I find many wear clothes that are impractical for me and most have much shaplier legs than my thick tree trunks

fcek · 31/12/2017 21:54

and that's partly what my problem is with many plus size bloggers. They think their size is healthy and normal. It isn't. The least they could do is acknowledge that instead of encouraging it with clothes that that make them look even bigger.

I did read one blog about a year or so ago whose name I cannot remember, she lost weight after being told she would die/would not be able to concieve and got absolute pelters for 'giving in' to the medical 'liars'. This is the kind of blogger I'd like to follow again - someone who doesn't live in denial and I remember she had good fashion sense at each size on her journey.

Basically I want a blog that is honest, for those who are sizes 16-22, with clothes people would actually wear, and not a blog that pushes an unhealthy lifestyle or makes larger women even more of a laughing stock. I'd feel more comfortable about my size if I could find more such blogs. I'll say no more on the subject now.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 31/12/2017 21:55

Jesus OP, you want quite a specific thing, don’t you!

MaudlinMews · 31/12/2017 21:56

Poppy who does poppiesstyle.com is a good plus size blogger. Very ‘normal’ but might be a bit old for you. I think the Ozy fashion bloggers are better at doing wesrabke stuff than the Brits. The Brits tend to be a bit ‘out there’ imo.

I find it hard to find fashion bloggers who are size 10 or 12; I find a lot seem to be either size 8 or below or size 16 or above.

TemptressofWaikiki · 31/12/2017 21:57

PennyDreadfull Sorry, but I don’t want to name her blog. I really don’t want to out myself and clash with that blogger. She tends to get all her buddies to gang up on anyone who dissents. Plus, I don’t want to drive any traffic her way. I’ve been very big myself for a while due to emotional eating and health issues, about a size 22-26 depending on which store. I made the massive faux pas of being honest on a group chat how my really massive weight gain wasn’t all that empowering for me personally, that I really struggled to breathe and that walking hurt. I was really attacked for admitting that for me the weight was linked to grieving and far removed from all the body positivity I have seen in others. I admired many of them but just didn't feel happy or empowered. I spent a couple of years getting back to a size 10/12 and am now regarded as a traitor because I was miserable being so big.

I loved funny blogs and Insta accounts of confident large women who shared great resources. Like, I could not wear dresses or skirts because my thighs were getting raw. I got great advice to get anti-chafing cream used by cyclists and thigh bands etc.

Ollivander84 · 31/12/2017 21:59

I won't acknowledge my size isn't healthy because it's fine, I'm fit and I do a lot of exercise. But I am dieting and currently over 2 and a half stone off, I'm happy with my body but I hate the number on the scales so decided to diet. Am pretty hourglass so not fitted clothes make me look bigger! Off to post a few photos on instagram as I haven't done fashion stuff for ages Grin

I don't think plus size people have to dress in sacks, people can wear what ever they want and it's nice we now have that choice
I would have said FFFB fits 99% of that criteria

lookingforthecorkscrew · 31/12/2017 22:00

A size 16 woman can wear whatever the hell she likes. A size 30 woman can wear whatever the hell she likes. I don’t understand why the OP can’t just accept that.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 31/12/2017 22:02

FWIW OP I am ‘way beyond plus size’, pregnant and not dead, in fact my only problem is judgemental people that think they have a right to tell me what I should/shouldn’t wear!

Maelstrop · 31/12/2017 22:12

Maelstrop, if you read FFFB blog, you'll see she's very fit and active despite being a size 18. Dieting and thinness doesn't equate healthy.

I agree, to an extent, but carrying extra weight, even if fit, is bad for the heart, ruins your joints.

Maelstrop it's interesting you bring this up because there was a massive thread regarding that just the other week!

Dunno how I missed that given how much I’ve been on here recently. Blush

I think it's not giving the idea that it's "fine" to be overweight or whatever but more saying "hey this is what it is, look at my cool threads"

The bloggers, maybe, but the FFFW group on FB is more of a ‘Tell me I look good’ whilst no-one’s allowed to say that perhaps it’s not the most flattering outfit.

Whilst we’re on the topic, I get that vintage/50s dresses look good, skim the belly, but due to an issue, I can’t wear anything that shows my calf. Why don’t more plus size fashion outlets do bloody trousers?!

ReallyConvolutedCareerHistory · 31/12/2017 22:13

I noticed some plus size bloggers use camera tricks/angles to make themselves look thin.

Anyway, I have not found a plus size blogger who has my unusual plus size body type - big arms, big face, big tummy, small boobs and everywhere else.
