Children in bed for 6.15pm with DP's bestfriend and his new girlfriend arriving for 6.30pm. I've made dinner and had the table set since that time. Said it couldn't be a ridiculously late thing as I have desperately got to prep for exams.
Got a text at 7.30pm saying 'we are running to the shop first, need anything?' I replied 'no thank you, dinner's getting cold!' No reply.
We've been stood up haven't we!?
Really wish I had stuck with the original plan of revision, Grey's Anatomy and a take away :( AIBU to just cancel now? And have a (very rare) evening with DP?

"I don't see how it was disrespectful. There wasn't a plan to take a nap, we went out the previous night and got pissed. I'll call round and make it up to X soon. Sorry"

Hmm

Also really boring answer as to why the texts are through me, DP's phone turns itself off and has half a screen its as good as new though, apparently which means I spend my life being his bloody PA.

Open it, then let it go- good karma for 2018. You’ve told him off, and hopefully it’ll never happen again! If he’s usually a good mate to your DP, allow it to blow over.

dorislessingscat · 01/01/2018 20:12

If you can be bothered to reply I'd write

"Whatever"

Then block his number.

NoSquirrels · 01/01/2018 20:13

X-posted.

I might not let it go after that text!

Straycatblue · 01/01/2018 20:13

Please tell me you are going to reply and ask why on earth he texted that he was en route and in the shop

RatRolyPoly · 01/01/2018 20:14

Ha! The douchebag was already an hour late before he even got home from the shop, let alone before taking his nap! Dick.

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 01/01/2018 20:14

Friend is a liar. They aren’t sorry.
They went to the shop and were running late, seen in WhatsApp and then text to say they had a nap. What a load of shit!

You should see what the reply is though! Your response was good

RebootYourEngine · 01/01/2018 20:14

You have to open it. He could be giving you a grovelling apology.

Singlebutmarried · 01/01/2018 20:15

Have them over for dinner again, do meat pie. Put Steph in yours and DPs and Cat food in theirs.

honeyroar · 01/01/2018 20:15

"If you can't see why it was disrespectful I'm done."

Singlebutmarried · 01/01/2018 20:15

Steph??? That should be steak.

Cross post!

Does he not remember texting you on his way to the shop after he was already late? Not disrespectful my arse

NoSquirrels · 01/01/2018 20:16

I’d say:

Disrespectful because we agreed dinner at 6.30, then an hour later at 7.30 you were “going to the shops”, an hour after that DP called to see where you were & no answer... because apparently you were “napping” - whilst at the shops? It’s just a lame excuse and a poor way to treat friends. Please do make it up to DP.

RebootYourEngine · 01/01/2018 20:16

What kind of reply is that? He really is a shit friend. I would just block him.

Supermagicsmile · 01/01/2018 20:17

Great response idea from
Nosquirrels!

RunLillian88 · 01/01/2018 20:18

They didn’t plan to take a nap yet they set their alarm?!?! The alarm didn’t go off?!?! They were popping to the shops? But napping? What’s he dream texting? Xmas Confused

RunLillian88 · 01/01/2018 20:18

Whops! **was he dream texting?

treaclesoda · 01/01/2018 20:19

Isn't it funny how defensive people get when they are challenged on their unacceptable behaviour?

aaaaargghhhhelpme · 01/01/2018 20:19

Bollocks to that

I'd point out he was already an hour late at the shops. Was their freezer counter really enticing and snug? Where and how exactly did they have a nap. And why the hell were they an hour late in the first place

Ultimately it's all lies. He's talking bollocks. It's whether you let him know you know he's a liar.

How's your dp feeling?

gingergenius · 01/01/2018 20:19

Bit late to the party I know but what utter wankers!!! Hope you had a lovely night op xxx

RedDogsBeg · 01/01/2018 20:19

Not disrespectful to lie to you? He's no friend at all. Nosquirrels response hits the nail on the head.

MiddleClassProblem · 01/01/2018 20:20

Disrespectful to “go to the shop” when you were already late. Fucking rude to then decide to have a nap.

Passmethecrisps · 01/01/2018 20:20

Does he really have no form for this? How weird!

Oh and sympathy re the phone. I dropped my DH’s recently and completely Gubbed it.

MadMags · 01/01/2018 20:22

You’re not welcome to “call around” to my home right now. Let’s leave it here.

  • that’s what I’d be saying!
