Children in bed for 6.15pm with DP's bestfriend and his new girlfriend arriving for 6.30pm. I've made dinner and had the table set since that time. Said it couldn't be a ridiculously late thing as I have desperately got to prep for exams.
Got a text at 7.30pm saying 'we are running to the shop first, need anything?' I replied 'no thank you, dinner's getting cold!' No reply.
We've been stood up haven't we!?
Really wish I had stuck with the original plan of revision, Grey's Anatomy and a take away :( AIBU to just cancel now? And have a (very rare) evening with DP?

Unbelievable. I wouldn't bother with them ever again.

FreddieClarieHorshieLion · 01/01/2018 18:41

Very rude.

Yes, I’d also start eating. It’s probably better to cancel beforehand. Or else they might show up later / anytime this evening?

ReanimatedSGB · 01/01/2018 18:48

Also the 'let's come round tomorrow/meet next week' rather suggests that they think you are desperate for their company and will accomodate them no matter what.

SweetheartTreacleTart · 01/01/2018 19:15

OMG how rude of them. I wouldn't both inviting them over again.

Straycatblue · 01/01/2018 19:19

Have they been in touch today to apologise for their awful behaviour last night?
Its not bad enough that they didnt turn up but to lie about it as well, unless of course they did fall asleep in the shop after already being an hour late. Hmm

perfectstorm · 01/01/2018 19:28

Managed to use What's App while asleep in this shop, too. Impressively adept multi-tasking.

Mrsknackered · 01/01/2018 19:29

Had another apology text today, just a 'I'm really sorry about last night, happy new year"

I said "it's okay. However, I'm not planning on making arrangements with you again, as quite frankly I was fuming last night and you've upset X. I think you need to think about how you treat your 'friends' as I don't believe a real friend would be as disrespectful as you were last night.'

He has replied, but I haven't opened it. I'm knackered and still pretty cross! No point going round and round, though. Had a lovely evening in the end with DP though, so not all bad!

Oh you tease! Open it :)

ThePinkPanter · 01/01/2018 19:34

What absolute dicks. I would be furious.

Wineasaurous · 01/01/2018 19:38

Have you opened their message yet?

MiddleClassProblem · 01/01/2018 19:40

Glad you gave him an earful (textful)

calzone · 01/01/2018 19:42

Oh please read the text.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 01/01/2018 19:46

They clearly had a "better" offer. Watch him turn this round on you like it wasn't a set arrangement or whatever. Twat.

Tinkie25 · 01/01/2018 19:46

Cheeky gits!

Glad you had a nice night in the end.

aaaaargghhhhelpme · 01/01/2018 19:46

Open it so we can all pen a mumsnet response!

kaytee87 · 01/01/2018 19:49

Good for you op, you need to open the message though!

Paperchains1986 · 01/01/2018 19:50

Wow, some people!

Passmethecrisps · 01/01/2018 19:52

I am aghast at this, honestly the cheek of them.

I feel very sorry for your DH. One question though is why are all the texts coming through you?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 01/01/2018 19:55

I was going to post that I thought you should call them on it - glad you did!

Elledouble · 01/01/2018 19:55

Oh that’s really horrible. Especially given you’re supposed to believe the shop/nap story - that’s just insulting.

But pleeeeeease open the text Wink

jollyjester · 01/01/2018 20:01

You have to open it!

MumGoneMild · 01/01/2018 20:04

Open it!

JenTeale · 01/01/2018 20:05

Oh please do...

RedDogsBeg · 01/01/2018 20:09

Excellent response, Mrsknackered - good for you. Unless people are called out on their rude and bad behaviour they will continue it towards you. He now knows you won't allow you and your husband to be lied to and picked up and dropped as it suits him.

EvilDoctorHogmanayDuck · 01/01/2018 20:10

That's never happened to me, I've had a SW just not turn up when we'd stayed in all afternoon for her. We needed shopping and DD needed a nap. I was extremely pissed off.
