Children in bed for 6.15pm with DP's bestfriend and his new girlfriend arriving for 6.30pm. I've made dinner and had the table set since that time. Said it couldn't be a ridiculously late thing as I have desperately got to prep for exams.
Got a text at 7.30pm saying 'we are running to the shop first, need anything?' I replied 'no thank you, dinner's getting cold!' No reply.
We've been stood up haven't we!?
Really wish I had stuck with the original plan of revision, Grey's Anatomy and a take away :( AIBU to just cancel now? And have a (very rare) evening with DP?

What horrible people. So this nap they were taking was it before, during or after their trip to the shop? It's obviously bullshit - hope you can save their food for another day - their loss and personally if they ever contacted me again I would tell them to fuck off.

Motoko · 31/12/2017 23:50

Well, partner's best friend isn't much of a friend at all. He'd be better off ditching the fucker.

ClaireRose8 · 31/12/2017 23:53

What a pair of arseholes. I would be alive with anger at them both. So so unbelievably selfish and rude. All your effort, time and expense.
Strike them off your friend list, period.

BeulahBattleaxe · 01/01/2018 00:07

Is your dp going to remain friends with him?

Ceebs85 · 01/01/2018 00:26

I'd be less insulted by the lateness/no show and more insulted by the pathetic attempts at lies/excuses. They're an insult to your intelligence! Please say they can come round tomorrow then fuck off out 'to the shop'

treaclesoda · 01/01/2018 05:44

Just occurs to me that you probably should have accepted their suggestion of calling round tomorrow. Then you could have not bothered coming to the door, even if you were obviously inside. Then hours later, message them to say you were all having a nap and forgot to set the alarm.

Beakyplinders · 01/01/2018 05:51

What a pathetic excuse! Took a nap, oh puhleaseeeee.

CalpolandCoke · 01/01/2018 05:54

Rude fuckers.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 01/01/2018 06:19

Rude bastards. Don't invite them again, life's too short for that level of shit.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 01/01/2018 07:05

Don’t play games with them. I’d just say no and cut them off. They’ll know why.

Katherine2626 · 01/01/2018 17:26

How rude!!!
Several choices here:
Cancel at once with no explanation - anyone with a shred of sense would realise why. Or,
Serve them a cold dried up meal if they do arrive and let them know you are really, seriously p**d off with them. Or,
Ignore the doorbell.
And never ever invite them to eat again.

Raindancer411 · 01/01/2018 17:37

That is really bad and I would never offer again personally!

Ikanon · 01/01/2018 17:43

As if you'll give them a second chance to mug you off this week 😂

DH must be mortified if it's his best friend.

If I actually did the falling asleep thing I would call - embarrassed - not text.

Also they were already an hour late when they 'ran to the shops'.

Also who runs to the shops when they're already late?? And then accidentally falls asleep??

Also he was on WhatsApp 3 minutes ago according to your updates.

MadMags · 01/01/2018 17:47

My god! That’s not even a half decent excuse!!

Bastards.

Aeroflotgirl · 01/01/2018 17:48

How rude. I wod have eaten as soon as they were half an hour late. That message about meeting up again, noway, some people don't have a bloody clue on decent manners.

EmbarrassedAF · 01/01/2018 17:50

They probably only offered to come tomorrow as they knew you’d say no

expatinscotland · 01/01/2018 17:52

I agree with no playing games with them. Just don't bother re-scheduling.

LagunaBubbles · 01/01/2018 17:56

You just dont do that to people. It's beyond rude.

ColdAndFrostyMorning · 01/01/2018 17:57

Wow, this is unbelieveable rude.

libbyb · 01/01/2018 18:01

Nobody lets a friend prepare for a dinner - all the prep, shopping and housework (if you're like me) and then doesn't turn up on the day??!! I really feel for you - you have a busy, busy life and the friend who knows you just brushes it off with 'alarm didn't go off? '
Sorry mate - do one!! Don't hold your breath for another invite!

caramac04 · 01/01/2018 18:06

Wow! Rudest guests ever!!!! I’d definitely sack them off. Forever. You deserve better.
As a fellow diabetic I might have bloody eaten them in a foul rage had they bothered to turn up.
Disgracefully rude.

Takeoutyourhen · 01/01/2018 18:12

Why wouldn't you or your DH actually talk to them? Diabetics can't faff around at meal times!

Mooey89 · 01/01/2018 18:17

Cheeky fuckery at its finest! Hope you had a good night OP!

manicmij · 01/01/2018 18:17

Cancel. You are not really cancelling as guests haven't turned up. Food not worth serving, fit for bin. Off to bed. Hope you got your shopping done okay!

MissConductUS · 01/01/2018 18:35

They probably tell asleep after some horizontal exercise.
