Children in bed for 6.15pm with DP's bestfriend and his new girlfriend arriving for 6.30pm. I've made dinner and had the table set since that time. Said it couldn't be a ridiculously late thing as I have desperately got to prep for exams.
Got a text at 7.30pm saying 'we are running to the shop first, need anything?' I replied 'no thank you, dinner's getting cold!' No reply.
We've been stood up haven't we!?
Really wish I had stuck with the original plan of revision, Grey's Anatomy and a take away :( AIBU to just cancel now? And have a (very rare) evening with DP?

Erm was that in their way to the shop at 7.30?
Tell them they took the piss.

mumonashoestring · 31/12/2017 21:34

Bloody hell. I mean, leaving aside the 'obvious bollocks' factor, who wants visitors first thing on New Years Day? Hmm

Not that I wouldn't be tempted to go and pay them a really noisy visit first thing tomorrow...

SmileEachDay · 31/12/2017 21:34

Ah. New girlfriend.

They had to “take a nap” in that urgent and frantic way one does when a relationship is new.

Still don’t know why you didn’t call them. Is phoning not a thing.

Although if they were “taking a nap” with the correct amount of enthusiasm they wouldn’t have answered.

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 31/12/2017 21:34

What an absolute p*ss take. Don't bother replying to that joke of a text. I'm really sorry OP. I hope you're able to enjoy the rest of your evening (and please make no effort with these jokers in 2018!) x

Makingahome · 31/12/2017 21:35

No your behaviour has been spectacularly rude and we've no desire to do this again after the wasted effort we've gone to tonight

Thirdshepherdfromtheleft · 31/12/2017 21:35

What?? They randomly fell asleep on their way to the shop? Or had a little snooze under the freezers perhaps? Bizarre!!

Geepee71 · 31/12/2017 21:35

Are they expecting you to provide breakfast tomorrow? Reheated dinner maybe?

treaclesoda · 31/12/2017 21:36

How horrible. Angry They must think you are gullible on top of everything else.

I hope your DP has the good sense to tell his friend that their behaviour is horrible.

Nocabbageinmyeye · 31/12/2017 21:36

Where did they take the nap? Outside the shop they went to when they were only an hour late? Their excuse is so shit it actually makes their behaviour worse, they couldn't even come up with something realistic. Assholes

Groovee · 31/12/2017 21:38

That's awful that they have allowed you to waste money on food they haven't turned up to have and jet you down too. Hope you and DP have a lovely night without them x

ArchchancellorsHat · 31/12/2017 21:39

What a rubbish excuse. Arses.

lurkingnotlurking · 31/12/2017 21:42

Oh no! Too busy shagging to be a friend.

Dancetothebeat32 · 31/12/2017 21:42

It’s the cowardly way they have gone about it that would get right on my breasticles.......just be honest and have the decency to give you enough notice to not waste your time waiting for them to show up ....eat drink be merry and I wish you an early happy new year OP their loss your gainGrin

Willow2017 · 31/12/2017 21:42

Lufes too short for suppised friends to take the piss like that.
I would be asking why the fuck they took a nap when they were already an hour late when they txt you about the shop and did they just pop into a bed shop by misteak?

Absolute waste of space.

"Can we meet up?"
Answer "can we fuck." "Call when you find some sense of decency and a freaking watch."

AnathemaPulsifer · 31/12/2017 21:43

Wow. That’s an insultingly bad lie.

Lizzie48 · 31/12/2017 21:47

That really is so rude! I'm glad you finally ate your meal. Your DH needs to stop allowing his best friend to take him for a mug. Angry

MycatsaPirate · 31/12/2017 21:47

I'd want to take their dinner round and post it piece by piece through the letter box.

Especially if it's something like soup. Or spag bol.

SmileEachDay I didn't phone because honestly, I was trying to sort things out here and I don't think I should have to be calling round begging friends to act like friends!

Apparently DP tried to call at 8.30pm, and had no luck.

Dinner was lovely though Grin

Please reply "did you have a nap in the shop after being late?"

Jdabbers · 31/12/2017 21:51

@MiddleClassProblem - Exactly!

What selfish people. I wouldn’t text them bsck, when they chase you tell them you were taking a nap... on the way to the shop! CF

Hope you both enjoyed your dinner and Greys

Mrsknackered · 31/12/2017 21:52

catsapirate sweet potato dhal would also be pretty good to post through! With apple crumble and pouring cream to follow. They've had lovely new flooring put in too...

I'm not going to reply because I cba to for them to take up anymore of my evening! I feel sorry for DP, think he feels quite let down and as he said "one of your friends would never be this rude!" Sad

aaaaargghhhhelpme · 31/12/2017 21:54

Pffffft they didn't even have the decency to come up with a believable lie!

What on earth does your dp think about his best friend?!

For me it's unfuckingforgivable

glow1984 · 31/12/2017 21:54

They can’t even get their lies straight. I wouldn’t be rearranging anything any time soon!
