Children in bed for 6.15pm with DP's bestfriend and his new girlfriend arriving for 6.30pm. I've made dinner and had the table set since that time. Said it couldn't be a ridiculously late thing as I have desperately got to prep for exams.
Got a text at 7.30pm saying 'we are running to the shop first, need anything?' I replied 'no thank you, dinner's getting cold!' No reply.
We've been stood up haven't we!?
Really wish I had stuck with the original plan of revision, Grey's Anatomy and a take away :( AIBU to just cancel now? And have a (very rare) evening with DP?

Awww sorry. Cross post.

Your poor DH

crazycatlady5 · 31/12/2017 21:55

Wtf? Desperate to see if this continues - I’m hoping they grovel.

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 31/12/2017 21:55

Omg Mrsknackered, that sounds delicious. I'm on my way round Grin.

MiddleClassProblem · 31/12/2017 21:56

Poor DP. Give him some more crumble x

Engorged · 31/12/2017 21:58

Remember to stand them up sometime OP, without guilt. Or better, don't bother making plans again.

LizzieSiddal · 31/12/2017 21:59

Thats unforgivable behaviour, how bloody rude can you get?!

froginapond · 31/12/2017 22:00

YANBU obviously. As has been said, do NOT answer the door to them OR arrange to do anything with them again. Rude bastards. You could have arranged to do something else. Sad

If your partner's mate does not have form for doing this, then it's definitely his girlfriend's doing. Probably did it on purpose.

This puts me in mind of a couple we used to know (let's call them Ed and Paula,) who we arranged to meet at the pub on 7.45pm on New Year's Eve several years back. (2014.) They had form for being late, but this time only SHE turned up - though 45 minutes late. Hmm

It was a bit awkward because she was a bit hard to talk to, for various reasons, but if he was there, it was a little bit easier. We asked where he was and she said he is a bit ill and will be in the pub later.

Half past eleven the fucker turned up. 'Oh I fell asleep on the couch' he said.

Months later (around May,) I stumbled upon a facebook profile of someone he works with, and has a nose at his photos, and lo and behold, there was Ed, large as life, at someone else's party on New Year's Eve 2014. Hmm

When I investigated further, it turned out he was there from 8pm to 11.15pm with a bunch of mates from work and a few neighbours. Apparently, he had had a 'better offer' than spending New Year's Eve with us, and she had refused to go with him, as she didn't like the other people, and they had arranged to meet us (first.)

So he went on his own and left her to come meet us at the pub on his own, and then decided to rock up to where we were at 30 minutes before midnight.

Needless to say, we have never been out with them again. Not only because he was such a rude fucker, but they were always late anyway, and were pretty hard work. (Being with her on her own was VERY hard work though.) In addition, he had not turned up several times before, and also she knew he had fucked off out with others, and she had lied. So after that, we washed our hands of them, and thought 'fuck 'em, we deserve better.'

We don't miss them.

SmileEachDay · 31/12/2017 22:01

SEE?

Your partner rang and they were still “napping”

This is what you do:

Text saying “sure, come round tomorrow at X time” Then have wild and noisy shaggery on the other side of the door as as they ring the doorbell. Push a post it out through the letter box that says “we’re napping, fuck off”.

FaithEverPresent · 31/12/2017 22:03

I would be furious! Fancy pissing you about like that when you’ve got exams looming! I think I’d be tempted to reply to his text about later with a simple ‘I think not!’.

Willow2017 · 31/12/2017 22:04

Ffs
Life is too short.

TroelsLovesSquinkies · 31/12/2017 22:04

What a clever CF he is, he can post a whatsapp while asleep.
I'd bin them and eat their food.
Your poor Dh just lost a friend, he's better off without him.

HuskyMcClusky · 31/12/2017 22:08

I have friends who carry on EXACTLY like this. From being appallingly late to dinner, to the shit excuses, to blithely expecting to be reaccommodated when it suits them.

Rude, rude, rude. And utterly self-indulgent.

I got jack of it and haven’t seen them since 2016.

Gemini69 · 31/12/2017 22:10

I wouldn't make arrangements with people like this ever again... Flowers

MammaTJ · 31/12/2017 22:16

I think the only reply could be 'What, you both fell asleep in the shop? Then your sleeping self managed to be on WhatsApp? Bollocks?'

Job Done!

crazycatgal · 31/12/2017 22:18

That's unbelievably rude. Glad you enjoyed the food.

GrandDesespoir · 31/12/2017 22:20

Yep, clearly shagging. Hmm

ButtMuncher · 31/12/2017 22:21

How the fuck does that work if they were supposed to be there at 6:30, were at the 'shops' at 7:30 and then suddenly napping through alarms at 9am. Chinny reckon right there. I'd bin them off Grin

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 31/12/2017 22:22

I bloody hate cheeky fuckers like that. They’re so important, and clearly you’re not.

cloudyweewee · 31/12/2017 22:28

SmileEachDay

Grin

Bin the knobheads off.

Rossigigi · 31/12/2017 22:28

What a load of cods wallop! Better off without them!

Mrsknackered · 31/12/2017 22:41

Thank you all for cheering me up! We're both a bit tipsy and laughing at the songs DS has recently put on his favourites list on YouTube.
For anyone that's interested:

Mans not hot
Uptown funk
A song by that really irritating Jojo Bow girl

He's 5 in a few days Grin

honeyroar · 31/12/2017 22:41

So they text you, already late, from a shop. You tell them dinner is getting spoiled and they go for a nap?? Yeah right! Fuck off "friend".

TheDevilMadeMeDoIt · 31/12/2017 22:43

All of the above.

But give your DH a big cuddle and tell him you don't blame him and it'll be a lovely night just the two of you.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 31/12/2017 22:51

Mans not hot Grin A current favourite of the DC-Alexa, on the other hand, I feel is a little tired of it...
I'd also arrange a time for tomorrow & then be unobtainable.
