Came across this article in the Mirror just now (Sorry, it's another Meghan one) where she says Prince Michael of Kent wore a 'racist' brooch when meeting her.

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/meghan-markle-greeted-racist-jewellery-11736477

General consensus from the comments suggest she knew exactly what she was doing. I don't know anything about her to know if it's suspect but it seems an odd thing to own let alone wear in public. What's the jury?

Also, is Michael an actual name for a woman, I've never heard of it before

This was meant to be in chat sorry, there's no AIBU, just your thoughts

Oh yikes. That’s no oversight. What a dreadful woman.

ScipioAfricanus · 22/12/2017 11:25

Ugh I wouldn’t put it past Princess Michael (think it’s her husband’s name in reality). She’s very snobby. At the very least it shows how clueless the royals/upper classes are about their privilege and at the worst it is a rude insult.

Anymajordude · 22/12/2017 11:26

Her name isn't Michael, she's the wife of Prince Michael but not a princess in her own right.

Surely a snub. Nobody would think you could actually wear that these days. It's like wearing a gollywog.

MsGameandWatching · 22/12/2017 11:26
Shock
ScipioAfricanus · 22/12/2017 11:26

Known widely as ‘Princess Pushy’. She and her husband have (I believe) always tries to do as little as possible for their tax-payer-provides income and cling onto honorifics/benefits etc despite being minor royals.

ScreamingValentaMySantaExpress · 22/12/2017 11:26

Michael is her husband's name, it's the style she has chosen - she can't be Princess (first name) because she isn't a princess in her own right. The Duchess of Cambridge could similarly call herself Princess William if she chose to

Tipsntoes · 22/12/2017 11:27

She's Princess Michael because she's married to Prince Michael. No, I don't know why she doesn't get to keep her first name either - I think it's Christine.

I seem to recall she has form for racist remarks about bloodlines and didn't she say the hooha over Harry's Nazi costume was a fuss over nothing? I suspect the brooch was no accident too.

littlepeas · 22/12/2017 11:27

I think she uses his name so that she can use the title of princess? Don't think she would be able to using her own name.

Notimetobeill · 22/12/2017 11:27

Oh that's horrible !!

SheSparkles · 22/12/2017 11:27

I saw that photo and my first thought was that it was very deliberate-despicable woman

Bluntness100 · 22/12/2017 11:28

I suspect she's a deeply racist and unpleasant woman and was making her thoughts clear. Wearing that was deliberate. Fortunately for Meghan she's a total irrelevance and she is about to very shortly seriously outrank her.

Passive aggressive making her thoughts clear. A very ugly thing to do.

littlepeas · 22/12/2017 11:29

That brooch is shocking.

VladmirsPoutine · 22/12/2017 11:29

I can't say I'm surprised by her actions tbh.
It's just wrong on every conceivable level.

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 22/12/2017 11:29

As she's not the Princess of Wales, she takes the name of her husband on marriage.

Tipsntoes · 22/12/2017 11:31

Scipio, they don't get anything from the public purse. They live in an apartment at Kensington (or one of the palaces) which the Queen used to pay the rent on, but they've been paying market rent for a decade or so. Agree she's thoroughly unpleasant though.

LuluJakey1 · 22/12/2017 11:31

Her father was a Nazi.

I can't believe she did not realise what she was doing. Or that she actually thought it would be appropriate anywhere, never mind to that event. Or that her husband or daughter did not speak up. I would have refused to accompany my mother if she had worn that.

Hopefully, she took the coat off as she arrived and no one saw it.

ScipioAfricanus · 22/12/2017 11:33

Thank you Tips, that’s better than it could be! My knowledge is old, based on my relatives’ Majesty magazines which we used to send to them abroad. Instrumental in turning me into a staunch Republican.

Bejazzled · 22/12/2017 11:34

I remember at the time there were stories about her being very snobbish about both Diana and then Sarah - as in she was reluctant to recognise they 'outranked' her in the royal family.
Allegedly the Queen and other members of the RF can't abide her as she's very rude and entitled (as well as being a lazy mare who won't work for her privilege)

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 22/12/2017 11:35

Princess Michael has always thought of herself as better than all the rest of the Royal family.
Not a chance that she just randomly choose that brooch

Bluntness100 · 22/12/2017 11:35

I guarantee the coat didn't come off till everyone saw it. Frowns upon the marriage due to Meghan mothers skin colour and wanted her to know it. She also knew she'd be photographed in the car so had it positioned so it could be seen.

I'm honestly quite shocked.

Bluntness100 · 22/12/2017 11:37

Or that her husband or daughter did not speak up

Maybe they agree with her.

Bejazzled · 22/12/2017 11:38

It's an ugly piece of jewellery for a person who is ugly inside

lljkk · 22/12/2017 11:38

Does anyone have a close up picture of the brooch? It looks like a bust of a king.

OrinocoDugong · 22/12/2017 11:38

That's not a veiled insult, it's a blatant and deliberate slap in the face.

The Duchess of Cambridge won't be able to be styled as Princess Catherine unless Prince William is officially promoted to Prince of Wales if Charles manages to outlive his mum. Anyone else who marries into royalty can't be Princess (Firstname) but can be Princess (RoyalHusbandFirstname)
