Came across this article in the Mirror just now (Sorry, it's another Meghan one) where she says Prince Michael of Kent wore a 'racist' brooch when meeting her.

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/meghan-markle-greeted-racist-jewellery-11736477

General consensus from the comments suggest she knew exactly what she was doing. I don't know anything about her to know if it's suspect but it seems an odd thing to own let alone wear in public. What's the jury?

Also, is Michael an actual name for a woman, I've never heard of it before

I get the Kents muddled up. No idea how they're related to the Queen. I saw the footage again recently of the Wimbledon one (which google tells me is called Katherine) consoling Jana Novotna after losing. She seemed kind.

I do remember lots of Princess Pushy stuff in the 80s, remember her and Diana didn't get on. The brooch one appears to think she's much grander and more important than she actually is....

Anyway, the reasons behind the brooch aren't as important as the fact as someone (as she's the passenger in the car, someone else was with her) didn't point it out and ask her WTF she was playing at. Even had Meghan not been there, that sort of jewellery isn't appropriate.

Crikey! Shock

SoupDragon · 22/12/2017 12:54

I was thinking "how can a piece of jewellery be racist?"

And then I looked at the pictures Shock

EdithWeston · 22/12/2017 12:54

"I don’t think the Dutchess of Kent does Wimbledon any more"

Correct. She was born in 1933 and retired from duties about 5 years ago (when she was about 79 years old).

Yes, she has also, reportedly, had a number of health issues.

TinselTwat · 22/12/2017 12:55

That's is deliberate and disgusting. What a cunt.

There really are no other words.

Bluntness100 · 22/12/2017 12:55

She'll be at the wedding though if she's invited. Probably wouldn't miss it for the world. Spewing bile and seething but she'll be there.

I hope they don't invite her. Harry seems able to set his own course and the Queen is clearly happy for the grandkids to marry for love, so wonder if he will get a say in thr invite list.

SoupDragon · 22/12/2017 12:55

There is no way on earth that could be anything other than deliberate.

ShoesHaveSouls · 22/12/2017 12:56

I almost wish nobody had noticed actually. She wants people to notice it - she's making a point, a rather nasty one.

I wouldn't say Meghan Markle is getting a hard time in the press - but there is a definite element of racism amongst, shall we say, the DM type BTL commentators. Who think Prince Harry shouldn't marry someone foreign, let alone of mixed race. Some people are still stuck in the 50's. Or in (minor Royal) Princess Micheal of Kent's case - in the 30's.

FitBitFanClub · 22/12/2017 12:57

I think the Duchess of Kent is a first-rate pianist and teaches the piano. She always looks very kind.
I'm sure I read that Princess Michael of Kent was virtually estranged from her husband (apart from when she wants to use his title) and was having long-term affairs with other (rich and titled) men.

dramaticsigh · 22/12/2017 12:58

PMOK probably likes all get attention.

What a freak.

I guess H&M can easily uninvited her from their wedding now, win-win.

Bluntness100 · 22/12/2017 12:59

Even had Meghan not been there, that sort of jewellery isn't appropriate

Exactly. Becayse she knew she'd be photographed going in and that that brooch would be photographed and shown to the world and anyone looking at it would be horrified irrelevant of the colour of their skin. So she literally doesn't give a fuck about any views, inc the publics, other than her own.

However her racism is well recorded so don't know why we are shocked really.

Roussette · 22/12/2017 13:00

Yes she taught at a state school for 13 years incognito as a music teacher.

FitBitFanClub · 22/12/2017 13:00

The Kents (Prince Michael and Eddy, Duke of Kent) are the queen's cousins, along with Princess Alexandra (who I always think looks a bit like Sophie Wessex). Princess Michael (Marie-Christine) and the Duchess of Kent (Katharine Worsley) are their wives.

FitBitFanClub · 22/12/2017 13:02

Their father was killed in a plane crash during the war, I think. Their mother was the beautiful Marina.

HamishBamish · 22/12/2017 13:02

That is the kind of piece which should either be destroyed or put away in a vault somewhere, never to see the light of day.

It must have been deliberate. I can't see how it couldn't be.

UrsulaPandress · 22/12/2017 13:03

Wasn't Sophie Winkleman badly injured in a car crash recently?

I thought the Duchess of Kent was quite ill?

Roussette · 22/12/2017 13:05

I wonder what Claudia Winkleman thinks of her? She is half sister to Princess Michael's son's wife.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 22/12/2017 13:05

The woman who played Olivia in The Waltons is called Michael. (Yes, I know, not the point of the thread, but I have nothing to add on princess woman)

Veiled insult, faux pas or not a big deal?
notaflyingmonkey · 22/12/2017 13:14

Meghan to Harry: can we do Christmas with my family next year?

kooshbin · 22/12/2017 13:17

The angle of the seatbelt looks wrong. Looks like she's pulled the belt sideways. If the belt was in the normal position it would have mostly covered the brooch.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/12/2017 13:20

Are they always slaves ? Some look more like emperors

They were usually depicted as servants, often holding a tray or by a staircase or door, so the fancy clothes and jewellery were used to show their "master's" wealth as much as anything else

Seen purely as a work of art some of them can be very attractive, but that doesn't change their implications or the ugliness of this dreadful woman's choice - after all, it's not as if she lacks for other pieces she could have worn

SukiTheDog · 22/12/2017 13:24

Her father was an SS Officer, under Hitler.

RJnomore1 · 22/12/2017 13:24

The duchess of Kent always seems lovely. I'll bet she's had a few SIL threads on here.

I'm clutching at straws here but it looks to be on her outdoor coat which she might have removed before she was introduced?

FuckwitsEverwhere · 22/12/2017 13:27

Horrible woman.

As an aside I know a couple called Micheal and Lynn, Michael is female, Lynn is male. That was to the PP that asked if Michael was a female name.
