Trump thread # 100 “Cannot you see that I, too, have a tall and beautiful person?”

Roman Emperor Nero wrote the above in a manual titled ‘Care of the Hair’. Nero was tyrannical, vain and cruel, and thought little of the lives of others. He also liked to erect buildings and carve his name into them. Smile if only we could learn well from the past.

I watched the clip of him being asked if he was going to fire Mueller, as he arrived from Camp David. He came across irritable and aggressive I thought. Pressure's on

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 17/12/2017 23:26

He said he wasn't going to fire Comey and then he did and then went on TV and said it was because of the Russia investigation

Although the difference is that in this case, he's not permitted to fire Mueller. Still, I don't think he'd let pesky things like the law or constitution stop him though, particularly as the Republicans are not exactly opposing this.

cozietoesie · 17/12/2017 23:32

He may have had 'steadying' conversations. Who knows what else is going on?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 17/12/2017 23:45

And yes, the most likely course of action would be to stymie it in a lawful way - firing rosenstein or Sessions and replacing him with someone aligned with Trump - and the reason it's more likely is because it's legal and will have fewer outraged reactions (in contrast to a constitutional crisis). But the reason I won't rule it out is because Trump has made all sorts of terrible decisions that most people could have seen wouldn't work out in his interest (firing Comey which lead to the appointment of Mueller for example) and the best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour.

That's not to say it will definitely happen but that I don't think we can assume it won't and that it's not a credible possibility.

cozietoesie · 18/12/2017 00:46

You're probably right, Pain. I WILL keep trying to predict his actions by those of a sane leader. I must learn to be more .........flexible.

I'm sorry, this is totally irrelevant but the best Christmassy Tweet I've seen. I feel obliged to share it, I missed it last year.

The censorship is and seems to be spreading up social media

@benthere536
And Twitter is now engaging in censorship. It's not allowing us to post www.needtoimpeach. com as a link. Seriously. Try posting that in your TL. You'll get censored.

This is true. I just tried to tweet this site and Twitter won't let me. I tried three times and it instantly deleted my tweets.

President Obama warned in the 2010 SOTU that exactly this would happen. (As his Special Counsel I worked w/ him, @jonfavs & the WH team on the language.) Alito shook his head in the audience (rude) & others scoffed.Who’s scoffing now?Danger 2R democracy!

TheClaws · 18/12/2017 06:51

You're probably right, Pain. I WILL keep trying to predict his actions by those of a sane leader

And remember he likes to spruik his very unpredictability as one of his greatest positives as a leader, and something that makes him quite different to his predecessors. His MAGA base will point to this as one of the things they admire. Stability and sanity appeals to me more Xmas Grin

It’s hard for his opponents to do anything in the chaos. It’s why we keep careering from one scandal to the next, overwhelmed with outrage and faced with a deficit of time and attention to actually do anything about it before the next new dilemma appears.

Although here to directly contradict what i just said:

BREAKING: Last-minute provision could give @SenBobCorker a $1.1 MILLION ANNUAL TAX CUT, according to top economist. Under fire for switching his position to back the bill only after the provision was added, Corker is now demanding answers from GOP leaders

This is a truly rare moment in American politics the senator at the center of the #CorkerKickback scandal is facing a national firestorm & is now publicly demanding answers from his own party and he's doing it hours before he could sink the entire tax bill. THIS IS BIG NEWS

Ted Lieu
Ted Lieu
@tedlieu
Sen Corker voted no on the Senate tax bill because it explodes the deficit. REVISED TAX BILL ALSO EXPLODES THE DEFICIT. But Sen Corker is now a yes vote. Is it because of the #Corkerkickback? Only other explanation is
...
there really isn't any other good explanation is there?

David Sirota
@davidsirota
This is quite a statement from a sitting Democratic congressman -- it is a significant development as the firestorm around @SenBobCorker intensifies.

I have to confess to having read these threads when they came out out but was too overwhelmed with information to really be able to critically evaluate them. They're probably worth a look

Jones doesn't think Trump should resign over harassment allegations

www.politico.com/story/2017/12/17/doug-jones-trump-resign-300840

Alabama Sen.-elect Doug Jones broke with some members of his own Democratic Party on Sunday by refusing to call for President Donald Trump to step down over sexual harassment allegations.

“Those allegations were made before the election, and so people had an opportunity to judge before that election,” Jones said on CNN's "State of the Union," referring to the 2016 presidential contest.

“We need to move on and not get distracted by those issues. Let’s get on with the real issues that are facing the people of this country right now," he added.

lionheart · 18/12/2017 10:48

I know. Shock

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 18/12/2017 11:36

I get that he's representing Alabama and has to walk a fine line but really, could he just not have refrained from weighing in?

Anyone get the sense that the walls are closing in on Kushner?

Pain I get the feeling that the walls are beginning to close in on more that just Kushner. But if they can squeeze him hard enough to make him squeal, I truly believe that Kushner will be Scrotus' downfall. I just don't know if they can.

Fingers, toes, eyes crossed.
