Roman Emperor Nero wrote the above in a manual titled ‘Care of the Hair’. Nero was tyrannical, vain and cruel, and thought little of the lives of others. He also liked to erect buildings and carve his name into them. Smile if only we could learn well from the past.

I’m not sure if his climate change tweet shows actual ignorance or wilful ignorance of CLIMATE change (and the increase in extreme WEATHER it is bringing).
Lots of people don’t understand the difference between weather and climate.

I’m sure the tweet will play well with his base tho, who tend to be climate change deniers anyway.

Lweji · 29/12/2017 09:00

He's multilayered stupid in the weather/climate tweet.

Either he doesn't believe in climate change (and it's not global warming) and he's stupid to learn about it or believe the people who are experts.
Or
He believes in it but is doing his best to discredit it and delay action to fight it and limit its impact.

Either aspect of stupidity will have far reaching consequences. Not for him, and that's the second level of stupidity. It's brought by selfishness and lack of vision and lack of empathy with the future generations, which includes his own blood line.

Lweji · 29/12/2017 09:03

That NYT interview, it's a good summary of all that is wrong with him.
Down to the claim that he'll win next time because the media need him. And this is wrong about him, not that he's necessarily wrong on this.

lettuceWrap · 29/12/2017 09:12

He probably thinks his own bloodline will do just fine, because they are rich, white and American... Hmm

Natsku · 29/12/2017 09:19

Actually when I think about it more, I'm not sure he actually believes in that stupidity but wrote that tweet to appeal to his fuckwit base.

TheClaws · 29/12/2017 09:32

No. No, you can’t, foolish troll.

There was an awful fire in NYC last night. But shoring up his support is so much more important....

I think he was just setting the parameters to enable further cuts to foreign aid and government agencies.

lionheart · 29/12/2017 10:58

Thanks for those Pain.

We need a new thread for the new year.

Lweji · 29/12/2017 11:01

Trump: I can do whatever I want with the Justice Department

It was one of the jewels of the NYT article. It should be read.

lionheart · 29/12/2017 13:10

I think that is the most appalling part. That, and his phenomenal ego.

Even by Trump’s low standards, this pick is stunning. Pruitt selects friend to oversee EPA program, even though he has no relevant experience and has been banned for life from banking industry (cc @fastlerner)

Will that be the end of the Council, or will he appoint a few HIV denialists?

cozietoesie · 29/12/2017 14:18

I reckon someone will have it tacked on to their remit....

As we count down to the new year, we get to reflect and prepare for what’s ahead. For all the bad news that seemed to dominate our collective consciousness, there are countless stories from this year that remind us what's best about America.

Kat Creech, a wedding planner in Houston, turned a postponed wedding into a volunteer opportunity for Hurricane Harvey victims. Thirty wedding guests became an organization of hundreds of volunteers. That’s a story from 2017.

Chris Long gave his paychecks from the first six games of the NFL season to fund scholarships in Charlottesville, VA. He wanted to do more, so he decided to give away an entire season’s salary. That’s a story from 2017.

Ten-year-old Jahkil Jackson is on a mission to help homeless people in Chicago. He created kits full of socks, toiletries, and food for those in need. Just this week, Jahkil reached his goal to give away 5,000 “blessing bags.” That’s a story from 2017.

All across America people chose to get involved, get engaged and stand up. Each of us can make a difference, and all of us ought to try. So go keep changing the world in 2018.

cozietoesie · 29/12/2017 17:13

The 'STBX' Director Of Revenue Management that should read............Wink

AcrossthePond55 · 29/12/2017 17:38

It's like Barack is a 'touchstone' for me. I go back and read his twitter. Just seeing his picture gives me strength to persist. God, I sound like a 14 year old 'fan girl'. But he's just such a calming presence. His theme was 'hope' and it doesn't appear that he's given that theme up. He keeps reminding us that the best of American is stronger than the worst of America. And that we can become 'who we were' before this debacle if we just keep believing that.

I wish he could say more and say it more 'severely', for lack of a better word. But it appears that there's some unwritten protocol about former presidents not blatantly calling the current president on their shit. I can see it in the past, when there were 'shifts' from left to right and back again in priorities and legislation but in essence things still stayed on a relatively even keel. But this is so insane, so egregious, that I think there needs to be a 'new' protocol. I'm sure that all five of our former presidents are fit to be tied. The closest we've heard of is Dubya's comment after the inauguration, when he was overheard to say "This is some crazy shit, man".

Persist. 2018 is just around the corner!
