To think gender alters the perception of what is said on MN?

I use a username that clearly identifies my gender (and is also my biological sex). Often I feel that if people assumed I was a woman their response would be different. Or if you swapped the genders around some people's responses would be completely different?

OP posts:

I don't give a shit, tbh

If you can't deal with bias on a female dominated website, there are plenty of other places you could hang out instead of bellyaching on here

MistressDeeCee · 27/11/2017 07:10

All sounds a bit "You all WILL listen to me (now where's my handmaidens)"

Are we meant to apologise for bias? I mean, sometimes there will be bias sometimes there won't. It's the way of the internet. I guess you just fancy a vent. Ok.

Collaborate · 27/11/2017 07:11

Spot on OP.

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2017 07:14

I think AnyFucker has summed it up nicely. Plenty of other forums.

picklemepopcorn · 27/11/2017 07:20

I generally don't look at names, so tend not to notice if people are male or female unless something crops up to draw my attention.

The fact that I am aware of your name, and have been irritated by what you have said on quite a few occasions suggests you are often irritating. That may be your personality, and unrelated to your sex, or it could be because you have a strongly gendered view point that I disagree with. It isn't because of your name.

I think you'll find it's called hypocrisy. OP INBU to call you out on it.

birdsdestiny · 27/11/2017 08:18

Another one here who gives not one shiny shit.

MistressDeeCee · 27/11/2017 08:22

Flying Monkeys time

I like the fact that a PP automatically assumed the OP was new here. Actually, he's been here quite a while.

But then there's an awful lot of assumption goes on on MN all the time, including what the OP is talking about.

Lweji · 27/11/2017 08:31

Absolutely NBU. The double standards on here can be staggering.

You mean the differences of opinions here are staggering?

Can you identify a large number of pps with double standard opinions?

HerSymphonyAndSong · 27/11/2017 08:42

I don’t know, one tiny corner of the internet where men might, occasionally, find themselves on the back foot is not really that much of a concern IMO

AfunaMbatata · 27/11/2017 08:55

Meh Brew

mrsmuddlepies · 27/11/2017 08:56

Horrified by the two threads about women objecting to their husbands wanting to look after the planet. It feels like the whole of Mumsnet comes on to condemn the men and tell them to wind their necks in.
If it had been a mother, worried about the future of the planet for her children's sake, the reaction would have been completely different.
YANBU

MistressDeeCee · 27/11/2017 09:10

Your man there must be sitting back having a good laugh. How easy it is to turn women against each other by throwing a penis in the mix. Ridiculous.

Some people do the double standards thing. Some do not. There are a wide range of opinions on this forum. A huge cross-section of people. So, all in all...akin to other large internet forums. Nothing unique going on here. Except maybe a bit more Daily Mail-ites invasion, news site with politics talk lately a bit boring lately I hear

YANBU. I was criticised on here once when I posted about maintenance payments because (the poster felt) by not being “upfront” about the fact I’m the Dad I had committed some kind of MN crime.

I also suspect the thread about Louis Theroux being “fuckable” as it said in the title would’ve lasted about a nanosecond if the subject had been female.

AssassinatedBeauty · 27/11/2017 11:47

The sheer number of posters who go on and on about the awful double standards, and how terrible this is for the men who post here amazes me. It really doesn't matter. This is one site out of millions. If it bothers you then choose a neutral username and don't refer to your sex. Just like lots of women do on sites that are heavily dominated by male posters, and for much more reason than just "double standards".

AnyFucker · 27/11/2017 11:49

Aww, so quick HQ. You are no fun at all Sad Sad

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2017 11:50

That was very speedy!

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2017 11:52

OP seems to have disappeared. Confused

AnyFucker · 27/11/2017 11:55

He's had a fit of vapours and is now having a little sob about how the women on MN don't give him the respect he so clearly deserves

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2017 11:56

Grin Or he's off spreading his wisdom on other threads.

Is the Sex Topic still full of men?

AnyFucker · 27/11/2017 11:58

Probs

Pumperthepumper · 27/11/2017 12:16

I’m another who would advise you to change your username if it’s such a bother to you.

Pumperthepumper · 27/11/2017 12:20

And everything that Tsundoku said too, wonderfully put.
