Broken ankle?

kaytee87 · 25/11/2017 23:25

I think I've broken my ankle, at first I thought it might be sprained but the pain is getting worse and is unbearable even whilst lying still. I know I need to go to hospital but how the hell am i going to get there? I wouldn't be able to manage into a taxi, what do I do??

I'm assuming that my boot will come off & I'll get physio to start walking again.

I also have nerve damage so if there's no change by 12th, I've to have nerve tests

My dh decided to collect our new couch & then shampoo our living room carpet 😩

Dreading trying to find kids Christmas presents. Some are in a cupboard that I can't get too & no idea if dh will find them

kaytee87 · 24/12/2017 07:26

Sorry about the nerve damage, hopefully there's some improvement.

Oh hopefully the carpet dries quickly, lovely to have a fresh Carpet and new couch though Smile

I lost one of my husbands presents somewhere, thankfully it was only a small thing. Maybe find it in time for his birthday Grin

My son's 3. This is the first year he's really 'got' xmas. Last year was good because he understood a bit but he'd only just started talking. This year he hasn't stopped talking and he's finding everything exciting!

I'm hoping I don't have any lost presents anywhere. I think I might have bought too much again. It's hard to judge when you don't see it altogether.

Glad MIL's coming to help. It'll relieve DH a bit.

kaytee87 · 24/12/2017 07:49

3 is a brilliant age for this time of year. My nephew has just turned 3 and has been talking about Santa Smile

There's far too many presents in our dining room just now. My dh always goes a bit mad, he loves Christmas.

I love Christmas so much more since having DS. I'm an only as is my Mum (my Dad's side live away) so we don't have any family kids for the day apart from DS. It was adults only at Christmas for years and that's not the same.

Scarydinosaurs · 24/12/2017 11:38

I’ll join you in the ‘broken limb and miserable’ camp 😓.

I snapped my wrist and needed it manipulated a week ago, still waiting for them to decide to pin it, need to go back for another X-ray as surgeon wasn’t happy with the one they took on Friday to check on it. Three under five and one very stressed husband. I’m in so much pain and can’t take painkillers.

I know other people are worse off, but I’m feeling really miserable at the moment.

kaytee87 · 24/12/2017 11:42

Aww @Scarydinosaurs I know it's horrible. It will get better soon honestly.
Do you have anyone else that can help with the kids? My standards have dropped and ds and I have spent a lot of time napping together, sitting reading books or watching tv. He's been to hardly any activities and I've not been able to do any floor play with him.

My youngest is just ten months so trying to sort a childminder place for her once my husband is back to work in Jan. really lucky he is off now.

My middle daughter is two, so she is easy to care for in comparison. The four year old will be at school. I’m self employed so will be working from the third too.

Thanks for the kind words. How is the pain now? Do you have any more X-rays booked?

kaytee87 · 24/12/2017 15:34

Pain is pretty much non existent, the occasional twinge. It's my shoulders and neck that hurt now from using crutches.

Eek 10 months, mine is just turning 17 months. Is your 2yo in nappies? How will you manage 1 handed?

Scarydinosaurs · 24/12/2017 17:17

Oh I’m so pleased your pain has gone! Fingers crossed it stays that way 🤞🏽

Two year old is toilet trained and a little dream- so not worried about looking after her solo. I have no chance doing the baby- I can’t even lift her 😓 really hoping I won’t need surgery. My consultant was really negative when I asked about recovery time...I just want use of my hand back!

ny20005 · 24/12/2017 17:34

Oh no @Scarydinosaurs ! When you're in pain, everything seems much worse

Hopefully it will be straight forward when you go back & you won't need surgery xxx

Scarydinosaurs · 24/12/2017 18:00

Thanks ny that’s exactly it. In pain everything seems crap.

Merry blooming Christmas 😭😭😭

ny20005 · 24/12/2017 20:39

Scary, take all the pain meds they give you & keep taking them as long as your still in pain

Hopefully you'll have a pain free Christmas xx

Scarydinosaurs · 24/12/2017 21:01

ny because I have ulcerative colitis I have trouble with most pain medication. Cocodomol worked but it made me so sick I was scared a flare was starting. The last thing I need is to go back into hospital for that.

Thank you though! I’ve found a limbo cover and a bath incredibly soothing. I’d recommend them to anyone in need of a bath!

kaytee87 · 24/12/2017 21:07

@Scarydinosaurs I've a limbo cover which I use in the shower, been planning a bath with it, just might be a bit tricky getting in and out but think my other leg is strong enough. Might have a bath when ds goes for his morning nap tomorrow (he still has 2 naps a day!).
Sorry to hear you can't have much pain relief. Could you book yourself a massage as a treat? I had a head, neck and shoulder massage last week which was lovely.

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 24/12/2017 21:09

I also find a lovely cuddle with ds helps kill pain, must be the hormones it releases.

OP posts:
Scarydinosaurs · 24/12/2017 21:21

Definitely love the cuddles!

I actually had a massage booked anyway as it’s my birthday next week. Hoping I can still have it!

You deserve lots of treats in your bath! Oil, bombs- the works!

sueelleker · 25/12/2017 07:50

Scarydinosaurs. can you get local anaesthetic patches from your GP? I know we supply them from the hospital pharmacy where I work; but I don't know if a chemist would have them

Scarydinosaurs · 25/12/2017 11:28

Ohh how do they work?? That sounds perfect! I had local when they manipulated it and it really helped.

Polarbearflavour · 25/12/2017 11:32

Hello fellow broken limbers, I have a broken arm for Christmas. Well it happened two weeks ago. Merry Christmas, I hope we all heal soon.

kaytee87 · 25/12/2017 17:31

SadSadSad I slipped on my way out of the bathroom (wet floor) just there and automatically put my bad foot down to stop myself from falling and now I'm in quite a lot of pain. I'm worried I will need to go and get it seen to.

OP posts:
KitKat1985 · 25/12/2017 20:10

Oh no Kaytee. Sad May be best to get it checked out just in case you've aggravated the break.

Scarydinosaurs · 25/12/2017 20:46

polar I’m sorry to hear your enduring crappy broken limbs this Christmas 😓

kaytee how are you feeling now? How easy would it be for you to get to hospital?

kaytee87 · 25/12/2017 21:12

It wouldn't be easy at all as everyone has had a drink and the limit is really low in Scotland, won't be any taxis about just now either.
If it's sore in the morning I will go, it's slightly achy just now but that might be because I've hardly rested with it up today.

OP posts:
ny20005 · 25/12/2017 21:39

@kaytee87

I did that a few weeks ago & my leg was sore & achy for the rest of the day but five after that. Hopefully it will feel better in the morning

My foot & ankle are swelling now which is new. Must be as I'm putting my boot to the floor when walking with crutches

On the plus side, I managed to make Christmas dinner with dh help & have enjoyed some prosecco

Happy Christmas !
