Broken ankle?

kaytee87 · 25/11/2017 23:25

I think I've broken my ankle, at first I thought it might be sprained but the pain is getting worse and is unbearable even whilst lying still. I know I need to go to hospital but how the hell am i going to get there? I wouldn't be able to manage into a taxi, what do I do??

Oh that sounds like you’ve done yourself a mischief.

I hope you get it fixed up soon. Keep it raised whenever you can.

Sycamoretrees · 26/11/2017 10:12

Good luck! Hope you get seen soon.

kaytee87 · 26/11/2017 10:36

Good luck Thanks

DingleBerries · 26/11/2017 10:56

Oh you poor bloody sod.

I must admit it certainly sounded like a break.
I hope you heal quickly.

kaytee87 · 26/11/2017 11:19

Scrap that I've got a break in my ankle too. They keep sending me back for more X-rays

kaytee87 · 26/11/2017 11:21

Will need surgery. Just waiting to hear if I'm staying in tonight or going home then coming back for surgery

TheHeartOfTeFiti · 26/11/2017 11:21

God they keep telling me other bits are broken Sad two breaks in my ankle (one either side) and my fibula is snapped right through.
Will need two plates and some screws inserted. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm shitting it a little bit.

See this is why 111 is a nightmare - with an injury that serious it should have been stabilised and gone in an ambulance. All the best OP - my DH needed similar surgery as a young man but fortunately has no issues now

Comedyusername · 26/11/2017 15:03

Wow - sorry to hear this Flowers.
Hope you're fixed up and out soon

bakingcupcakes · 26/11/2017 16:31

I don't have any advice but I'd be shitting it a bit too. Are you going home today or staying in? When are they planning to operate?

lurkeyishere · 26/11/2017 16:35

Op you must have been in agony!!I had the same when I was about 26 so about 8 or 9 years back i passed out wotht he pain as soo as i done it!!
the recovery is rough you will need help with the baby and they will tell you to be non weight bearing for 6 weeks at least listen to them or you will do more damage and may need further surgery. I hope you get sorted quickly and can get home soon.

kaytee87 · 26/11/2017 18:15

I'm staying in tonight and they're operating tomorrow. I really miss the wee one, feel like crying but don't want to look silly. My husband came in for an hour to drop me overnight stuff but other than that I've been by myself and will be tomorrow too.

OP posts:
bakingcupcakes · 26/11/2017 18:55

I think wanting to cry is understandable. At least it'll be done tomorrow and you'll be able to recover at home soon. How old is your little one? I wouldn't like being away either.

AnyFucker · 26/11/2017 18:59

Aww. You poor thing. That sounds like a horrible experience. Can't your H take a day off work ?

Wolfiefan · 26/11/2017 19:01

That sounds horrid and painful. You're not being silly at all. Can any friends come and keep you company for a bit tomorrow?

kaytee87 · 26/11/2017 19:09

He's 16months, just face timed him and he was kissing the phone Smile looks happy enough so I feel better.

Dh can't take him off, he's self employed and at a crucial stage in a project. He'll never get another client again if he doesn't finish it.

I'm hoping MIL will be able to bring ds into see me at some point depending what time the surgery is.

All my friends either work or are off with young kids so can't ask any of them to come.

Alexindisguise · 26/11/2017 19:15

Sounds awful, poor you. Hopefully mil can bring your baby in for a little bit tomorrow. Best wishes for tomorrow Flowers.

RB68 · 26/11/2017 19:25

arghhh not nice but easily done - have shattered both my ankles and dislocated them thankfully at different times. Expect pins and plates both sides and some nice scars, anything from 3 to 5 days in hospital as well. They should operate within 48hrs at the most. You will be released when you can get around on crutches none weight bearing. Expect to be in plaster for 6 weeks none weight bearing and it will take a few weeks to learn to use it again with physio. You will possibly need pins and plates out at a later date but without the trauma of the break and bruising this is less serious in terms of time to sort out and back on feet 2 weeks but more physio etc. I am sorry if this is not what you want to hear :-( But you will be fine I thought with the first one I would never walk again and wish I had had someone to talk me through it

kaytee87 · 26/11/2017 19:30

Thanks @RB68, they said the plates will stay in so at least no further surgery. Operating tomorrow and don't know how long I will be in afterwards. There's not enough beds, I'm staying on the wrong ward as there's no beds in orthopaedics.
I'm expecting scarring on both sides of my legs Sad and yes defo 6 weeks in plaster. I'm just glad i have my Mum and mil to do childcare but there won't really be anyone free to look after me. Hopefully by the time I get home I can at least get to the toilet and get water then my husband can just help me wash in the evenings.
