To think zoella is lying

Skip to 33. The calendar that her own company makes she says it's all down to boots and they choose the £50 price. She's been doing products for years and has full ownership of her company. She's not new or anything to releasing products

It's been on sale for two months and it's her name on it and was apparently only sad in the last few days when the backlash started.

Her body language is all off, avoiding eye contact and looking around. She says shes not in it for the money but has a long history of releasing cheap stuff for high prices.

GherkinSnatch that is so chilling. Both examples.

i sense that this young woman believes her own bs. What a shallow woman.

bathghter · 15/11/2017 10:37

Who is this idiot! THIRTY EIGHT MINUTES of waffle and showing off her lovely house. I DESPAIR. and we thought reality tv celebs were pushing it. DESPAIR.

BehindTheScenes17 · 15/11/2017 10:37

Gleam her management do this all the time AKA sweep things under the carpet or gleam over things Grin. Another client they represent, a FAMILY channel (probably your kids watch it), made a very offensive rape joke a few years ago, lots of complaints, but the video only got taken down after the management told them to A WEEK LATER, a quick 'insincere apology' ...they aslo lost a large contract with ASDA due to the joke, nice to see some companies do have a moral compass.
This family have recently released a children's book and have been charging fans TWICE to buy it..once from Amazon then AGAIN when they came to see them on their book tour and they get a PRE-signed copy, not even signed on the day. Plus they promised fans all the family would be there AKA the 3 kids - which to be honest is the main draw, however only the baby is being made to appear on the day. This is what they do, bait the young fans and then disappoint gently with some lame excuse. It is just another example of how my kids, your kids, all our kids are being manipulated by these management companies and Youtubers.

whiskyowl - I agree with you that the problem is wider and although this is an egregious example Zoella is certainly not the only one or someone who should be destroyed as a scapegoat. In fact, all too often when something like this happens one person is chosen as the victim and apologises/resigns/leaves etc, so that the rest of the system can trundle on while people believe that ‘something has been done’. It’s good that in the case of Harvey Weinstein, for example, there has been more of a snowball effect so far. I hope this makes people question vloggers and social media advertising etc overall.

I also agree that when you look at all branding and how capitalism works it is very insidious, clever, and similar to Zoella. I’d like it all to go (we don’t even have chocolate advent calendars in this house. A picture is all the excitement you get).

BehindTheScenes17 · 15/11/2017 10:39

Many have been making a lot of money off undisclosed adverts on Snapchat, Instagram etc and were only caught out when the Advertising Standards Authority 'tightened' their policies, and I use that loosely

wherethewildrosesgrow · 15/11/2017 10:41

this all sniffs of a big publicity stunt

justforthisthread101 · 15/11/2017 10:44

God help the planet if people like her are becoming role models.

Here here.

It's the "those of you that really know me know I'm not like this" bollocks that really gets to me. No-one who watches this carefully edited paid for rubbish knows you. They know branded and curated image you sell.

I follow Busy Phillips on Instagram (for those of us old enough, she was in Dawson's Creek - I'll be honest I haven't watched much she's been in since. But she's my age give or take a couple of years and she's funny). She posted yesterday that she was getting shit for having done a sponsored post on Instagram. Her response was "Folks, any of you who think that this isn't a form of entertainment, just on another platform are idiots. I'm careful about what I choose to sponsor, but I'm going to do one or two a week, because it pays the bills."

Children getting caught up in this nonsense, on the pretence that these people know them, and care about them, and they know them is chilling frankly. It goes way beyond disingenuous.

My daughters are 5 & 4 and if they ever watch this crap, I'll be roaring FAKE FAKE FAKE at them.

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 15/11/2017 10:54

This is the first time I've watched Zoella. What's in this advent calendar? Gold? Could someone please send her a Biscuit from me? Thanks.

FUNM · 15/11/2017 10:59

Zoella also laughed hysterically when she probed a fellow male Youtuber's bumhole in front of people several years back. img15.hostingpics.net/pics/667354yggNOA.gif

She only admitted to having help writing her first book AFTER people found out the actual author had tweeted bout it and they made the connection, then Penguin issued a statement Grin.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 15/11/2017 11:04

I totally agree that it’s because of the feeling of being ‘close’ to these people - I followed a few people for a while (the vlog brothers mainly, who are at least fairly open about this not being what they do, or at least when I watched which was a while ago) and you really do feel like you know them - there are in jokes, it’s in your room, they’re just at home, often not ‘done up’.

I have to say that she’s shot herself saying she’s so clueless- her slightly older fans will surely say ‘we’ll what kind of business woman are you?’

astoundedgoat · 15/11/2017 11:04

For licensed product though, she doesn't have a huge amount of input. She just gets a percentage in return for giving them permission to use her name. How much depends on how good her lawyer is, really. Anything from 5 - 15% probably. Certainly not more.

If it was retailing at £50, I assume that the mark-up Boots is about £35 (maybe more?), leaving £15 to make it - £5 to Zoella (let's be generous and say she has 10% of the retail price as her cut - probably less though) and then £10 to design, manufacture, distribute and market the product. Probably took the Boots team about a week to design it and get it all signed off, tops.

Does anyone know what Boots' mark-up usually is? Department stores are 250 - 300% for products bought in from independent designers. Don't know about in-house design/manufacturing though.

It's disingenuous to suggest that she had any more to do with it than reading a couple of emails that she was cc'd in on about the graphics and contracts.

She also wasn't ashamed to get her assistant to write her blog posts....

......then there was the time she called a young fan UGLY.

And people say she is a role model Hmm

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 15/11/2017 11:16

Having worked, not with Zoella, but with other vlogger 'talent' I would be astounded if the deal hadn't worked the way it usually does. I.E. zoella will have done minimal work on this. A team at Boots will have put it together. Nothing, absolutely nothing, will have gone ahead with the express approval of Zoella and her management company. And one thing that will have been of paramount importance to her and her management will have been how much money they get out of it. She's known for weeks it's a crap product, a rip off price and that her adoring fans will want it anyway. She's sorry now because she's been called out on it.

FUNM · 15/11/2017 11:16

she likes other people to do her work for her lol

To think zoella is lying
SingingBabooshkaBadly · 15/11/2017 11:17

Sorry - post should have read nothing will have gone ahead WITHOUT the express approval. Not with!!!! Bloody fat fingers!

turquoise88 · 15/11/2017 11:17

I have no doubt that she went into vlogging with all the best intentions. It's become such a dangerous, consumer-driven game. Sad really.

Incitatus · 15/11/2017 11:20

Oh, good grief. Do people really follow these vacuous fools and see them as role models? What a load of shite (the product and the plastic lassie).

astoundedgoat · 15/11/2017 11:21

SingingBabooshkaBadly What percentage would she have been able to negotiate, do you think? I know it can be as little as 5 or 6%, but presumably a name like Zoella could command a little more?

LizzieSiddal · 15/11/2017 11:22

I'm not going to defend her as I do not like her or her ilk. Their main aim is to earn a lot of money but it is in the guise of being 'friends' with a lot of young people. Ewww

But Boots and other stores do this kind of thing ALL the time. They do a 3 for 2 on gifts, so they put the price artificially high so they still make money. If you look at most of these gifts, they are way, way over priced. (Mind you this gift is worth about £10 at the most)

Maybe this will make Boots think twice before doing this in the future.

CisCucumber · 15/11/2017 11:28

She takes so long to say anything
Who can be bothered to stick around for so long

kissmethere · 15/11/2017 11:31

I was in Superdrug and had to double take at the price sticker for her hand cleanser, you know the ones you can get in £land made by other brands? The tag was £3.50. Jeez I think that's disgusting.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 15/11/2017 11:34

She is such a dirty lier she chose how much that load of crap was going to be sold for and she was really happy with the idea of half an advent calendar filled with shite from the pound shop. She has done nothing but tried to throw boots under the bus for her mistake.

Hellomaryimback · 15/11/2017 11:42

I'm aghast that our kids are watching this contrived rubbish. She is horrible.

I'd be so upset if my dc turned out like this.

Vain, manipulative, lying .... >
