To think zoella is lying

Skip to 33. The calendar that her own company makes she says it's all down to boots and they choose the £50 price. She's been doing products for years and has full ownership of her company. She's not new or anything to releasing products

It's been on sale for two months and it's her name on it and was apparently only sad in the last few days when the backlash started.

Her body language is all off, avoiding eye contact and looking around. She says shes not in it for the money but has a long history of releasing cheap stuff for high prices.

Shouldn’t trading standards be involved if reviews are being manipulated by the removal of the worst ones?

Mac12345 · 16/11/2017 13:16

I understand if the reviews were just being nasty, but if genuine opinions that the calendar is bad are being removed surely that's an issue?

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 16/11/2017 13:17

W0rried your DD is very switched on! 👍

Itsgonnabeacoldone · 16/11/2017 13:45

That's the gleam way, get most of 1 star reviews deleted. They've been doing it forever.

I'm actually shocked this thread is still here and zoella hasn't had someone send a cease and desist for talking about her negatively. Probably because there is too much out there to go and get them all deleted without more of a backlash.

It was Brie on here who opened my eyes to Zoella et al, I’d never heard of her before and I was Shock about HelloWorld and this calendar. My eldest is only 4 but it’s good to know that these people are targeting kids and to keep an eye out

Becca19962014 · 16/11/2017 13:57

I'm surprised this thread is still here as well.
It won't be for long though, they'll get it deleted. They have others.

MoanaofMotunui · 16/11/2017 13:59

Calendar has been reduced to £25 in Boots, still seems such a rip off. Feel very sorry for those who have purchased at such a high price ☹️

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 16/11/2017 14:01

How do you know the main house is legally owned by Alfies parents? As in the house they live in now?

I'm going to admit that as a 41yr old mum of 3 children with one almost as old as Alfie (my ds1 is almost 21) I did use to watch the vlogs regularly. I quite enjoy watching vlogs instead of tv series as I can drop in and out of them as I please. However recently and I'm talking very recently Alfie changed completely, he always has been a bit of a perfect middle class raised child, but recently he's become very entitled to use a mumsnet favourite way to explain behaviour.

The move from high street fashion to boasting about £7000 bracelets and £1300 backpacks. All things that for the vast majority of his followers will be completely out of anything they could ever afford. Also I remember when they moved into the new house they said that they didn't bring anything other than one sofa and one bedroom furniture set from the old house, the rest was thrown out or given away. Down to pots, pans and plates. What a complete waste of money.

MakeMisogynyAHateCrime · 16/11/2017 14:02

Wait, how do you know who her house is owned by?

CoolCarrie · 16/11/2017 14:05

Then we can start another one!

Itsgonnabeacoldone · 16/11/2017 14:09

It's public information who owns a house. I don't want to totally out myself but I used to work in related industry and am still in contact with people that have to work with "influencers".

I just watched that other video of the woman trying to be positive about the contents of the calendar - her struggling to figure out what to do with the confetti shit was priceless!

I think the reality is that Zoe's been so wealthy for so long that she probably has no idea of the value of £50. She probably genuinely thinks it's small change.

That "Bad Baby" article linked upthread is jaw-dropping. I've never heard of this "trend" and it made me feel a bit sick. Who is the audience?!

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 16/11/2017 14:18

Let’s face it she has never been poor anyway!

sweetbitter · 16/11/2017 14:38

They don't live in Hurst though, they live in Brighton or somewhere in the environs...they're always talking about Brighton and going out and about in Brighton in their videos.

IhaveChillyToes · 16/11/2017 14:54

@sweetbitter thank you for explaining

Very enlightening

And one of these vloggers is going into the jungle

Itsgonnabeacoldone · 16/11/2017 14:59

They live in West Sussex in a place known as that. Not going to say the full name as will give amunition for a c&d.

London people regularly have to go to her house as that's where she likes meetings, or Skype.

Summerisdone · 16/11/2017 15:19

It’s surely down to both Zoella ---- and Boots.
There is no way I believe she was clueless as to how much this calendar was being priced at, and there’s no way she could have truly believed that £50 was a fair asking price for considering the products tat included, so she can quit the ‘don’t blame me’ bullshit as I’m sure she wouldn’t have passed the credit if everyone was applauding her for it being a fantastic calendarHmm.
I also believe though, that Boots overprice all of their Christmas items each year because they’d not make much money otherwise, as very few people buy just one product, they ensure they get the 3 for 2 deals.
Not only that, but they often also sell the must have items each year at ‘better than half price’ for an entire week, again putting a huge dent in their profits, so of course they purposely sell these items at a much higher price than the value to begin with, meaning they can then afford to do ‘amazing’ price drops that aren’t really as good as they seem.
They did no different to what most other retailers do at this time of year though.

WallyWantsWine · 16/11/2017 15:41

This made me laugh

To think zoella is lying
LizzieSiddal · 16/11/2017 15:44

It’s absolutly disgusting that Boots have removed all of those one star reviews.

FUNM · 16/11/2017 15:51

Youtube gets 40% of what a Yter makes from Google Adsense (the ads on their vlogs/ videos - a good adblocker soon starves them of profit if you don't want to contribute to their finances :))

The recent algorithm they were complaining about tightened up on how suitable video content was when matched to certain advertisers; ie. if they didn't think the video was suited to an advertiser they DEMONITISED it and the YTer got nothin...and they have all been moaning about this over the last few months or so lol

Macauley · 16/11/2017 15:54

tillymint if your friend is right and the target audience is 24 - 30 then Zoella is way off with her stickers and confetti. Unless I’m missing these items in my life Hmm

TitaniasCloset · 16/11/2017 15:59

First time I have ever seen her and I have to say I instantly took agin’ her!! Spoilt, entitled rich girl, childish and prissy. Don’t see the appeal. I imagine £50 is nothing to her so she really doesn’t understand the value of things in the real world, having never had to struggle a day in her life.

Bloody hell that house though! It’s amazing, how much money is she worth?

loopsdefruit · 16/11/2017 16:00

Just as an addition to the info from sweetbitter the Big youtube people are often park of a management network/company, that company will arrange sponsorship deals, collabs, events etc... and they also pay the YTer a salary, this is much more 'stable' income than ad revenue, and they get a cut of any money made from brand deals/advertising.

Crazy world.

Also I'm pretty sure anyone can monetise their videos now, but you can't be a YT Partner until you have a certain number of views and YT accepts your application.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 16/11/2017 16:02

On a lot of products there is the RRP - recommended retail price. Pretty sure that comes from the conpany producing the item, not the sellers. so in a nutshell yes, ahe’s talking bollocks. They’ve made the calendar, they must have know what they want for it plus were aware what is the shop’s margin.

loopsdefruit · 16/11/2017 16:03

Fun yes they have been complaining, because the algorithm is crap lol the people getting the most hit by this are the creators who don't have a management company, they tend to be smaller and so more reliant on regular ad money to live. The algorithm keeps monetising really random stuff, and the process for getting it resolved is not straightforward.

There's also issues with it demonetising LGBT+ content, educational content, and political debate...which is a bit rubbish
