To think zoella is lying

Skip to 33. The calendar that her own company makes she says it's all down to boots and they choose the £50 price. She's been doing products for years and has full ownership of her company. She's not new or anything to releasing products

It's been on sale for two months and it's her name on it and was apparently only sad in the last few days when the backlash started.

Her body language is all off, avoiding eye contact and looking around. She says shes not in it for the money but has a long history of releasing cheap stuff for high prices.

Looks like she is imploding on herself

Just watched a bit of that Idubzz video and he seems quite scary though?

sweetbitter · 15/11/2017 21:19

One of her (supposedly) best friends these days is that Mark guy, who is gay, so will be interesting to hear what he has to say about this.

It is pretty gross reading some of those tweets. Most of them seem to be from about 6 years ago, so she'd have been about 21. I don't like judging someone on their worst moments, god knows I've said stuff I regret...but still, she was old enough to know better and they do show a mean side to her.

Itsgonnabeacoldone · 15/11/2017 21:24

Alfie admitted the other day what attracted him to zoella was her high subscriber count. He gained most of his popularity off her and still uses her for video content and thumbnails.

I feel like an hour long panorama is needed on zoella, only the very surface has been scratched in the last few days. Theres all the stuff she gets paid to promote but doesn't declare it as an advert yet reaches more people than many TV stations get.

Itsgonnabeacoldone · 15/11/2017 21:26

The mark guy is just a fan of hers that befriended her through sending lots of twitter's. He would eat her shit.

It's all part of her sly manipulation that a fan became her best friend. Her Twitter is always full of people sucking up to her as they want to become friends and get more followers off her.

I'm curious to know why people are so angry over an advent calendar? If parents are willing to give teens £50 spending money and they choose this over fags or alcohol then what's the issue?

Scissormister · 15/11/2017 21:30

What i find really sad is that when I was a teenager me and my friends used to have fun making things like this advent calendar (which isn't advent - as someone pointed out up thread, the 12 days of Xmas come after Xmas!! Advent does have an actual meaning!) as gifts for each other. We wrapped up our own glitter and drew our own pictures. everything is so pretty packaged and upsold these days, even creativity. :(

SequinRash · 15/11/2017 21:47

OP im nosy- what were the homophobic tweets she sent?

turquoise88 · 15/11/2017 21:47

Turquoise. She's been doing this for a decade. She knows what she has signed up to,

Did she though, to start with? Maybe she is fast realising what a manipulative business she is working in, or maybe she has realised for a while. But think about it - it’s her whole life. It’s all she’s really known and is the only way she can continue living the lavish lifestyle that she does. It’s not going to be easy to just cut all ties and give it all up, is it?

SequinRash · 15/11/2017 21:49

Ah sorry just saw the daily fail link a pp added x

SassySausageSupper · 15/11/2017 21:49

Apparently Alfie etc have recently left Gleam and might be starting their own company.

I think this whole thing is a joke. I cannot comprehend how price point wouldn’t be a huge factor in the planning and design, or how such a piece of junk took a year to create. What a joke!

troodiedoo · 15/11/2017 21:52

@Heckneck the same reason I'm angry someone pressure washed my nans drive for £300. It's a con.

Heckneck · 15/11/2017 21:55

Not a con though cos there were reviews of what was inside ? No one had to buy it... It's a bit different comparing teens to the elderly. How much stuff do we buy that's overpriced. Most designer stuff and kids stuff is overpriced rammel yet we still have a choice. She's a business woman. I'd do same in her position. You're lying if you say otherwise.

Emillee · 15/11/2017 21:57

I haven't RT(whole)FT, but this:

The final pricing decision will sit with the retailer. It's against anti-competition law for suppliers to set customer prices unless they're selling direct.

You might charge people £300 quid to pressure wash their drive and call yourself a savvy buisness person if you could get away with. But you would just be scum exploting people. Not all of us are like that.

Heck why not try to charge a grand for pressure washing the drive Heck?

InspMorse · 15/11/2017 22:03

Absolutely no doubt about it - she agreed the product specification & pricing strategy. Does she think we're all stupid?

Trollingwithmyhomies · 15/11/2017 22:09

InspMorse we won’t need to call on your amazing powers of deduction to answer that question.. Grin

C4Envelope · 15/11/2017 22:12

Hahaha just went onto the boots website to see if there was a general consensus through the reviews and came across this gem HahAhaha
THE' best item i've ever received from Boots!!!!!
I'm a HUUUUUUUUUUGE fan of Zoelia so I bought this calender as a gift to my adopted son, Pablo Zanzibar. He too loves zoelia so much that i've found a secret stash of explicit photos or Zoelia under his bed next to his Johnson's baby oil and cushell tissues from Boots. When we received this gem from Boots we got more than what we were expecting, candles, orange sprays, bendable cookie cutters! and having 12 days instead of 25 is a real game changer as it forces the opposition to stay in line with the current market. However, I would think this item could do with an improvement, a small improvement, but maybe in the future Zoelia should make a 'Attack Helicopter Edition' 12 day advent calendar. Also, I feel as though this calendar is quite race inclusive because there are no images of white people in the calendar itself.

Apologies for huge bloody post. Not great at the old copy and pasting slinks off embarrassed

GetOutOfMYGarden · 15/11/2017 22:19

Idubbbz is scary. That's the point of him - he content cops and 90% of them actually apologise and change their ways or their channels go under. A few somehow remain because their subscribers are too sucked in (eg. Keemstar and Ricegum)

Zoella and the gleam team have gone unchallenged for far too long.

melj1213 · 15/11/2017 22:21

But think about it - it’s her whole life. It’s all she’s really known and is the only way she can continue living the lavish lifestyle that she does. It’s not going to be easy to just cut all ties and give it all up, is it?

The problem is Zoella wants the lifestyle without the work, and the advent calendar is not the first time this has happened, it's just the one that everyone has sat up and taken notice of.

Zoella is 27 years old, she is not a child. She is one year younger than I am and she is working in a business that she effectively created. Her issues are of her own making and because she has grown out of her teen/tween audience and is wanting to aim her channels at her older viewers, but the tweens are the ones bringing in the revenue so she can't drop them.

The main problem with Zoella is that she has relied on Youtube to be her cash cow without establishing any other long term "career" path from it. Even the other Gleam vloggers all seem to have other careers or have used their Youtube channels as a platform to create their own brands based on things they love, enjoy and are good at. Zoella isn't really good at anything so she has nothing to expand on beyond her channels, unless it's things other people have created that she just slaps her name on for the £££.

Some vloggers have suffered with the issues relating to their audiencess changing and growing and strugling to keep "on brand" when they aren't the teenagers in their bedrooms any more. Louise Pentland (Zoella's "chummy" bff who never sees her unless they're doing a "work" thing) is one of those ... I have a lot of issues with her in general but I actually respect the fact that a year or two ago she actually addressed this issue of wanting to rebrand because she was a grown up and wanted to be able to act like it. She used to market the tween/teen audience much like Zoella back when she was "Sprinkle of Glitter" and did all kinds of Primark hauls, beauty tutorials etc that were aimed at that market because that was what she was in to when she started ... fast forward 10 years and she is early thirties, divorced, with a new partner, has a 6 year old daughter and a second baby on the way, her life is entirely different and so her content has changed to reflect that not always for the better but that is a whole different issue for another time She wanted her channel to reflect herself and what she was generally about without having to add a layer of sweetness and glitter to make it PG13 for her audience.

This has been the case with many Youtubers ... but not Zoella. She has used the excuse of her "anxiety" to avoid moving on with her career - she is still doing the same thing as she was doing a decade ago but she's almost forgotten who her audience are ... when she started people could relate to her because she was reviewing/discussing things within their reach as most were high street brands that were readily available. Now, she lives in a gilded tower where she is gifted thousands of pounds worth of products by high end companies and then gushes about designer products to the regular viewers who still only have the money for high street brands but want to be like her so will badger their parents or spend their savings trying to afford a sliver of the lifestyle that she is given for free, just because she is popular, which just perpetuates the cycle further.

If I got stuck in a lift with Zoella, I'd have to kill her. She's Intensely annoying. It's depressing that young girls aspire to be like that.
