To be shocked at the sheer amount of hatred and ignorance about transpeople on mumsnet

Specifically transwomen, according to the majority of mumsnet, all transwomen want to rape biological women, “steal their womanhood” and all sorts of other ridiculous, offensive statements without any factual backing.

So why is Mumsnet so intolerant and ignorant towards transgender people?

RunningOutOfCharge · 04/11/2017 22:33

You are being ridiculous..... it’s a minority’s not MAJORITY!! But then you know that. As there have been many threads addressing this

Yet you are taking it over again!

manicinsomniac · 04/11/2017 22:33

I don't think I've ever seen anyone say they hate trans people.

Plenty disagree with their opinion that they can change their sex and that their sense of self is defined by a concrete reality of a gender.

The two things are very different.

www.newstatesman.com/2016/11/whats-missing-transgender-debate-any-discussion-male-violence Here's one article with a lot of examples of transwomen being violent and behaving in other criminal ways.

As stated above, it would be very remarkable if they were the only subset of human beings who were never violent.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 04/11/2017 22:34

Actually, I think it's pretty important that real discussions are being had rather than blind acceptance.

It would be very dangerous for a parent to accept everything their child tells them at face value.

Badweekjustgotworse · 04/11/2017 22:34

curiosity are you a transwoman?

Maelstrop · 04/11/2017 22:34

Honestly, being on here lots, I've seen one dodgy comment re trans women are still biologically men in all this time. Yabu.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 04/11/2017 22:35

YABU. I have seen transphobia on here but mostly, I have seen intelligent people challenging the trans agenda and getting accused of transphobia.

BertrandRussell · 04/11/2017 22:35

"Okay but why am I being unreasonable? Can you explain why you hate transpeople"

Can you explain why you think I do? Or are you going to say we're all vile and flounce?

McTufty · 04/11/2017 22:35

Yes rape can happen anywhere, but only if there’s a penis present.

Genuine question for you OP: I’ve been raped. Had I requested a female police officer to perform the intimate examination on me, do you think it is reasonable that it should be someone biologically male?

Even raising that issue makes me a TERF. TRAs seek to silence women and steamroller their interests. Me, I believe a balance has to be struck that is fair to everybody and that has to be after a considered debate. But as I say, that makes me a TERF.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 04/11/2017 22:35

Can you at least quote a post or two to back up your statements?

DonkeyOaty · 04/11/2017 22:36

I don't hate transpeople. I do abhor the moves made against womens rights, the surge to eradicate woman from society. You might be cool with chest feeding and pregnant people but I ain't. You might be cool with the interfering with very young children's hormones, but I ain't.

Male violence, ain't no one cool with that. Are they?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/11/2017 22:38

Honestly, being on here lots, I've seen one dodgy comment re trans women are still biologically men in all this time.

Was it the way that it was expressed that you found dodgy? Because the statement itself is factual. Biological males who decide they are trans are still biological males. No amount of hormones and surgery can change the chromosomes, and almost all human beings are very clearly either XX or XY.

Fishfingersandwichnocheese · 04/11/2017 22:38

Plenty of people seem to be ok with male violence. Sad

raisinsarenottheonlyfruit · 04/11/2017 22:39

I don't think anyone here hates transpeople. Can you point to a thread where anyone says they hate transpeople?

Personally I am deeply concerned about the actions of trans rights activists (note - not the same as transpeople. They do not represent all transpeople and are not necessarily trans themselves).

I am deeply concerned by the recent attacks on feminists by TRAs. At the moment we are seeing young able bodied people physically attacking women old enough to be their grandmothers, for daring to voice opinions about subjects that effect them. And then taking to social media to frame the victim as the aggressor. That's deeply worrying.

I am concerned for the many teenagers pushed into puberty blockers who may come to regret it.

We are already seeing people in their early 20s having to come to terms with having no sexuality at all because they haven't been allowed to go through puberty. MFTs having to come to terms with their micro penises that will never be able to be turned into a neovagina, nor can they easily luve as the gay men that most of them would have turned into if left alone.

And FTMs who realise in their 20s that actually they're not men but lesbians who have removed their breasts and destroyed their chances of being mothers.

I feel for those people and think the current ideology presented as fact is serving them very badly indeed.

Taking someone's sexuality, libido and fertility from them at such a young age without any solid scientific proof that what you're doing has merit, long term, is unspeakably irresponsible, even wicked I think.

A lot of those trans kids will be suing in years to come.

And that's before we've even got into the assault on the rights of women - from TRAs, not transpeople necessarily.

exLtEveDallas · 04/11/2017 22:39

Nope, never seen anyone say they hate trans people.

Have seen people say they don’t believe a man with a penis is a woman just because he says so.

Have seen people say they don’t believe a man with a penis should be allowed to stay in a womens only refuge.

Have seen people disagreeing with the transing of children.

Have seen people laugh at the ridiculousness of ‘chest feeding’ and the insistence that a man with a penis should be offered a cervical smear.

But nope, never seen anyone say they hate trans people.

Screepy · 04/11/2017 22:39

Yabu

There are many trans people, parents of trans people, and so on, who regularly post here and get involved in the discussions.

Other forums do not allow discussion of trans issues, Mumsnet does, which is perhaps why it seems more "transphobic" than other places.

It is impossible to discuss transgenderism without being "transphobic"

RainbowsAndCrystals · 04/11/2017 22:39

If it's not a thread about how brexit should be stopped, then it's a thread about how all people on MN hate transpeople.

BORING!!!!!!!!

Start a discussion that hasn't been done to death in here.

stitchglitched · 04/11/2017 22:40

I don't hate trans people. I just don't believe it is possible to change your sex and I think that biology matters. There is also a real issue with how proposed changes to the law will impact upon women.

raisinsarenottheonlyfruit · 04/11/2017 22:42

Surely rape can happen absolutely anywhere, most of the world is a penis friendly place so transpeople wanting to do their business in the bathroom of the gender they feel fits them is the least of womens problems?

If this is the case - then please explain to me what is the problem with transwomen using men's toilets? Are you saying you think transwomen are not at risk of attack in the men's?

cathyclown · 04/11/2017 22:44

Uh oh.. here we go!

Ktown · 04/11/2017 22:44

The gist of the argument here is that mums don’t like the idea of their children being encouraged to go through unnecessary medical treatment because the kid expresses a liking for a barbie doll.
Furthermore the definition of gender is woolly and I haven’t heard anyone provide a good definition without using sexist stereotypes.
Sex is just a series of characteristics. You can change them if you wish but it doesn’t change your genetic make up.
I don’t think anyone here hates trans. The issue is the activists who insist on a very aggressive stance and the fake image of feminist of looking like a kardashian/doll is rather off putting for most women.

LaContessaDiPlump · 04/11/2017 22:45

I don't hate transpeople. I have serious reservations about the legal changes that are being made for their benefit, as I feel some of those changes will be harmful to women.

Soubriquet · 04/11/2017 22:45

I don't have trans people

At all

I don't believe you can change your sex but I don't hate trans people

Children should not be encouraged to transition because they like "girl toys"

Transwomen should not have access to rape centres, women's hostels, women's changing rooms, womes jails or anything that is exclusively for women

Woman of the year should not be a transwomen

Sports woman of the year should not be a transwoman

We deserve our own stuff too

Create a bloody transwoman category if you must but leave us be.

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/11/2017 22:48

I don't hate trans people. I take each person as I find them. And I support the rights of consenting informed adults making decisions over their own bodies and to live their lives free of violence discrimination and abuse.

What I don't support however is people being able himself identify their way into sex segregated spaces.

When you take away those with an actual GRC, those who know the deal and do not attempt to make people feel uncomfortable by intruding on women only spaces you are merely left with the arseholes who feel it is their god given right to be there. And those people are the ones I am worried about.

If some twat decides to put on a dress and use my changing room.then quite frankly I don't care and if my flabby arse is the best he can do then the jokes on him.

But my Dds wanna get changed amongst other girls not penises over he age of 6/7 and have every right to.
