To think it's inappropriate to sell these in a shop aimed at pre-teens?

NC as I've told people I'm posting this but I'm a long time regular, 'cancel the cheque', yoni, korean lady, etc.

So, I'm in Claire's Accessories today and see these..... (hopefully the photo will upload correctly.)

For starters, anyone who knows what these items are intended to be used for will not buy one from Claire's Accessories.
Secondly, I don't know a person over 13 who buys anything from this shop, they are unlikely to understand, so why sell it?
Third, children will buy this stuff, have their photo taken, then in a few years will come to realise what their parents allowed them to wear in the name of 'being trendy'.

That's just the obvious points. I also have a massive issue with BDSM being made 'mainstream' because of the negativity which always comes with it in the media.

'50 Shades' did a HUGE amount of damage to the BDSM scene. Their relationship was not D/S, it was emotional abuse, with some sex thrown in.
True D/S relationships are built on trust, respect, years of commitment, and learning.

As someone heavily involved in the BDSM scene, I find it hugely offensive that a way of life, and a whole community of likeminded people, can be essentially mocked by what is deemed 'fashion'.

So, AIBU to think this is inappropriate 'jewellery' for a childrens accessory shop?

There’s a ring on the zipof my coat I suppose I better get on to primark.

Blatherskite · 10/10/2017 21:13

Meh, goths etc have been borrowing from BDSM 'fashion' for decades. As a student, I was another who would buy actual dog collars from actual pet shops to wear out to nightclubs. It's hardly new or exciting.

I think the Op just wants to tell us all about what gets their rocks off

Theresnonamesleft · 10/10/2017 21:13

Is this post really because you have another shite book due and are trying to get people interested in more drivvle?
(Email from waterstones, not even released and they think it's shit so already chucked it on sale 😂 )

Maudlinmaud · 10/10/2017 21:14

So you see that ring thing on the choker, that's been literally all overy the catwalk I believe. Gucci and Chloe have adorned shoes and bag with it. It's been highly sought after and is now filtering onto the high street. I do not see the other thing you are talking about at all, but then I wouldn't know what to look for.

HopefullyAnonymous · 10/10/2017 21:16

Properly laughing out loud at this thread, mumsnet at its best (apart from OP!)

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 10/10/2017 21:16

These were sold in the 90s

Carouselfish · 10/10/2017 21:16

Second the actual wearing of dog collars in the 90s. With spikes. I was 15-17. Was more rocker/bikery than goth.

Maudlinmaud · 10/10/2017 21:19

Oh jesus I should have read the thread.
Throat fucking? I don't even want to know.

Luncharmstrong · 10/10/2017 21:20

Eh?

Stop being all professionally offended, loads of stuff trickles down from subcultures into the mainstream, even into kids stuff.. Nothing could ever be quite as glorious as Magic Earring Ken aka Cock Ring Ken.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 10/10/2017 21:24

What about bondage trousers from the 70s?

Do they also sell grips op?

Bippitybopityboo · 10/10/2017 21:25

Grin at the posts about the annoyed dogs and crochet hooks!

intergalacticbrexitdisco · 10/10/2017 21:27

The ring is only big enough to fit a guinea pig's cock at most. So it should definitely be banned as sick bestiality promoting filth!

The Daily Mail should be informed...but they're probably already here :)

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 10/10/2017 21:29

If it can fit through that hole it's hardly going to be going far enough for throat fucking is it.
It's a chocker, not a collar, and hardly a ring gag.

isitme88 · 10/10/2017 21:30

Is this just an excuse to rant about 50 shades of grey.

Maudlinmaud · 10/10/2017 21:31

Oh Freud! Just no Grin

user1492958275 · 10/10/2017 21:32

Ugh, I always find some posters really strange here.

I think the issue lies with yourself and yourself alone (maybe 2 other posters).

Because something is sexual to adults doesn't mean that children react the same, and it's odd to push these things (especially publicly) .. Claires accessories isn't trying to turn all the tweens in the world into subs. It's just a weird thought tbh.

I get potentially making a connection if you are in the scene, but to make a fuss about it afterwards? I mean thread, making people aware, the name change, for what? Let it go.

It's like when there was bikinis for younger kids / toddlers and some people went off their nut saying how sexual it was. It's not!

It's clothes, accessories, possessions whatever. Just because YOU see something sexual in it doesn't mean we all do. Dodgy as fuck.

TheActualMarilynManson · 10/10/2017 21:35

Just catching up.
pictish and herja exactly my point. Its what they are based on.

Calling BS on the op being who they say. The Korean lady thread was articulate and hilarious.

This sounds like a dirty old pervert trying to get a weird convo going Hmm

itsbetterthanabox · 10/10/2017 21:37

I think you are seeing it as something sexual when it isn't.
I wore a dog collar as a goth teen as did both my female and male friends. It's fashion. I'm in no way submissive!

It's laughable that you find it offensive to BDSM. Don't push your sexual fetish onto others.

RunningOutOfCharge · 10/10/2017 21:38

How do you know ‘it’s what they were based in’ op???

How?? You don’t Hmm

AnnieAnoniMouse · 10/10/2017 21:38

For starters, anyone who knows what these items are intended to be used for will not buy one from Claire's Accessories

You'd be fucking livid if you went to Pets At Home

Thank you Tess 😂

I wish I could get the 12 yo to like them, they'd be less embarrassing than the fucking JoJo Bows that her friend's Mum bought them both when they were out with her 😳😖. I could buy them both a set....hmmm. However, knowing Little Miss she'd wear them with the JoJo Bows 😂🤣😂🤣

Thegiantofillinois · 10/10/2017 21:40

Another one who used to go to pet shops for chains and collars. Proper Goths should be ashamed of themselves going to Claire's.

Proper dog collars hAve better spikes.

Tessliketrees · 10/10/2017 21:40

Chokers are wore around your neck. Not your face.

Freaks.
