To think it's inappropriate to sell these in a shop aimed at pre-teens?

NC as I've told people I'm posting this but I'm a long time regular, 'cancel the cheque', yoni, korean lady, etc.

So, I'm in Claire's Accessories today and see these..... (hopefully the photo will upload correctly.)

For starters, anyone who knows what these items are intended to be used for will not buy one from Claire's Accessories.
Secondly, I don't know a person over 13 who buys anything from this shop, they are unlikely to understand, so why sell it?
Third, children will buy this stuff, have their photo taken, then in a few years will come to realise what their parents allowed them to wear in the name of 'being trendy'.

That's just the obvious points. I also have a massive issue with BDSM being made 'mainstream' because of the negativity which always comes with it in the media.

'50 Shades' did a HUGE amount of damage to the BDSM scene. Their relationship was not D/S, it was emotional abuse, with some sex thrown in.
True D/S relationships are built on trust, respect, years of commitment, and learning.

As someone heavily involved in the BDSM scene, I find it hugely offensive that a way of life, and a whole community of likeminded people, can be essentially mocked by what is deemed 'fashion'.

So, AIBU to think this is inappropriate 'jewellery' for a childrens accessory shop?

Obviously I don't get that these particular ones are not ring gags and are a fashion accessory. It is what they're based on though, surely?

It's a circular hoop not unlike those found in ring binders. Are you saying ring binders are based on ring gags and are meant to provide a constant, sexual reminder of that fact when I file my tax returns?

HolyShmoly · 10/10/2017 20:57

Meh, I wore chokers and dog collars, etc as a (much more innocent than I looked) teenager. It was just a style thing, I thought the old pics of Punks were super cool. Even now it would take me a long while to realise what they were referencing.

Expemsiveuniform · 10/10/2017 20:58

Pictish indeed I have. Hence why I said that clothes pegs were nipple clamp pastiches.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 10/10/2017 20:58

The man would need a pretty small knob.....

EdmundCleverClogs · 10/10/2017 20:58

Even a 'smaller' bloke would have trouble getting his penis through that choker. I was thinking this was quite funny, but actually no. It's some creepy goady nonsense, and you need to get a grip.

ReanimatedSGB · 10/10/2017 20:58

Collars with a ring on are not for 'throat fucking'. The ring is (if you were wearing them as a BDSM accessory) for attaching a lead to, or just 'indictating' that you wouldn't mind someone putting a lead on you.
Though they are also worn by goths, punks and metalheads and always have been. Some people who like to go to fetish clubs might well buy these as they are cheap and cheerful - if you are one of those who is ridiculously pompous about your collar, you can always buy one elsewhere.

Expemsiveuniform · 10/10/2017 20:58

Crochet hooks are the same as the hooks used to break waters in labour. Really it’s upsetting to me to see them for sale in the shops mocking my inability to have children without being induced.

Herja · 10/10/2017 20:59

Though I look think that they're use mocking the bdsm scene is just a stupid idea. I also have my doubts about what the op wants from this thread, so won't be going in to that further. But no, it's not mocking and I don't know anyone who'd think it was.

MarthaArthur · 10/10/2017 20:59

That looks like a mighty small hole though no?

PortiaCastis · 10/10/2017 20:59

Nearest I got to bdsm was when exh trapped his puny dick in his zip, tbf I did take him to a&e eventually.

Expemsiveuniform · 10/10/2017 21:00

you can’t beat a good convertible pervertable but these aren’t that.

pictish · 10/10/2017 21:00

They are nasty and would look revolting on a child.

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 10/10/2017 21:00

My dog and his mates say they are annoyed about these BDSM types culturally misappropriating their collars for sexual practices.

hellokittymania · 10/10/2017 21:01

I buy things from Claire's and I'm in my 30s.

Caenea · 10/10/2017 21:01

I am hooting.

That ring is TINY and they're FAR too flimsy for BDSM stuff. Actual collars are much sturdier (for the pullings, don't ya know)

Stop fussing. 10 year olds won't know that stuff anyway and if they do their parents have a lot to answer for.

And anyone who could get their equipment through a ring that narrow probably isn't going to. I can't imagine that would be a confidence boost.

Expemsiveuniform · 10/10/2017 21:01

They are a choker necklace. A Fashion accessory. I’ve seen kids with dog collars and leads as bracelets. These are no different.

Busymumto2girls · 10/10/2017 21:02

I also wore chokers when I was younger. These don't 'offend' me although I wouldn't be that keen on my pre teen wearing one as I don't particularly like the look. I get more offended by Jojo bows though tbh 😂

Made me laugh out loud.

2014newme · 10/10/2017 21:02

Do you feel the same when go in Pets at Home I wonder

ghostyslovesheets · 10/10/2017 21:02

yabu and a bit peal clutchy op

Coconutspongexo · 10/10/2017 21:05

Someone wants details about what you all use for your BDSM..

PortiaCastis · 10/10/2017 21:06

Creasing up at Pets at home
Yep woofy wankers

Herja · 10/10/2017 21:08

No BlackPepper. I'm saying it looks remarkably similar to a ring gag. Not that anything with a metal circle looks like one.

Ring gag.

The diameter of the ring is totally different and it’s way too flimsy.

Sayyouwill · 10/10/2017 21:10

Do you also think this is modelled on a ball gag? Or do you think it could just be your dirty mind?
