Aibu to think you wouldn't share this story with the papers?

Read it on The Mail so I won't link but basically British girl meets Dutch guy in Barcelona. He spends the next 3/4 months calling her and asking her to come over to Amsterdam.

She does and then he never shows up at the airport and texts her to say "you've been pigged"

Basically means pulling an ugly girl to then dump her.

He denies it but even if he did do aibu to think you would never tell this story to the world?

As the mother of sons, I do find the common assumption on MN that the person with a penis is guilty, worrying.

As the mother of a daughter I also worry that she won't be believed though.

Not yet proved I think. She was, like the girl in this case, claiming to be caught up in a terrorist incident (Paris). However in that case she publicised it in the papers at the time.

I think the one slightly suspicious thing is that she keeps talking about going to visit him in Amsterdam when he's not from anywhere near Amsterdam. That and her £350 flight. Apart from that it's v hard to know who's lying.

Fair enough is she wants to share her personal life for cash. Her choice. But I'm confused how it will help other women.

Should I assume that any hot guy who pulls me is pigging me because I'm fat? Doesn't this just mean that fat women are less empowered to pull attractive men?

If this is true, there'd be a wealth of solid proof. It's not like a sex crime where there often isn't much solid evidence despite it having happened. In the absence of any proof, I won't believe it.

She's not even fat, she just has very poor taste in makeup.

I don't know how it comes to £350 for her flights either, it's less than £100 from Manchester to Amsterdam, return.

Also confused about prices I go to Amsterdam regularly and I've never spent more than £170 on a return flight and that was over the new year!

Why would she fly to schiphol when is lives in Doetinchem. It is no where near it. She could have flow to dortmund for under £50. Cheaper and nearer

The girl has nothing to be ashamed of, the man plenty.

Sharing may mean - and should mean - you get supportive messages saying you arent a pig but he is.

Unfortunately it is still the case that having a penis makes it more likely that you be involved in something like this. Many parents still raise children differently and tolerate behaviour from sons they would not allow from daughters.

If they had plans to stay at a hotel in Amsterdam then surely she will have the text/email/ screen shot of the booking. If he made the booking then she would have a text of the details of the arrangements.
This would be proof and very easy to confirm so where is it?

I agree, there is a thread currently running, about an op dh and his mates ridiculing her shy brother and quiet brother. Having a whatsapp group dedicated to ridiculing women. There is a lads culture, unfortunately its more likely to be men that do this stupid behaviour, to keep up with the lads and prove themselves to their peers. Last week in the media, there were these group of lads from Halifax uni, who had an Ambulance call out chart, to compete with one another, who can call out the most Ambulance or something. They also had a chunder chart, recording how much they were sick, presumably from drinking too much.

In light of this 'lads culture', pigging hardly seems surprising, its another way of lads proving themselves to each other, and just being stupid. Of course not all men are like this, dh is very respectful, and never bought into the lads culture, unfortunately a lot do, and some even continue it until they are in their 30's/40's.

I think the £350 was flights and hotel so she made the booking.

Given he started at ‘I was in her hotel room but we didn’t have sex’ and now his lawyer’s statement seems to be ‘well we did had sex, but I never sent a pig joke, but if I did it was while we were in Spain and about the sex’ I’m inclined to believe her

I've not really got an opinion on whether she is telling the truth or not but I presumed that the £350 was for flights and hotel?

I do go out and about in the real world violence doesn't solve anything and I'd be embarrassed if my other half, dad or brothers acted the way your husband did.

You want to make pigging an offence? Do you realise your husband breaking someone's nose is an offence?
