Ponytail

So here it goes.
DD is 19 months old and attends a Montessori nursery. I wanted her to go here as I liked their teachings and I let as though the children could be themselves, free sprites that kind of thing.
DP picked her up with a tacky high pony tail in. Now, DD has the craziest hair around , it's wild , curly, had a life of its own, a bit like DD . It's just her. She will never ever let me put a slide in or do anything with it, complete little wild child.
I don't see why they tied it up?? It's not in her way, it's short and I feel as though she has been treated like a doll for the entertainment of the staff.AIBU if I complain?

I don't think I'm an uninvolved parent, and I do dds hair every morning, but I don't think I'd even notice if they came home with a different style.

PurpleDaisies · 02/10/2017 21:48

It's tight curly hair, it's about 3 inch long when wet, an inch at the most when dry and curly

So how did it go into a ponytail?!

Redglitter · 02/10/2017 21:50

I feel as though she has been treated like a doll for the entertainment of the staff

Ffs I've read some ridiculous things on here but this really takes the biscuit.

Soubriquet · 02/10/2017 21:50

My Dd used to go to nursery with one hairstyle and come out with these gorgeous French plaits that I can never manage to do

She would ask the girls to do it and I would say they happily complied.

Rachie1973 · 02/10/2017 21:52

My granddaughters have tight curls. Think orphan Annie or Shirley Temple.

They scream blue murder when Mum tries to tidy/brush/restrain/wash it.

3 minutes in nursery and they want every other childs hair clips/bands/slides.

Fekko · 02/10/2017 21:53

I wear a tacky high pony tail to work. Just for tidiness (not nits). I love the idea that the nursery staff really have nothing better to do than play dolly with the kids.

Oysterbabe · 02/10/2017 21:54

Yab utterly, utterly ridiculous.
DD often comes home with a different hairstyle and it has never occurred to me to give the tiniest fuck. It's a great nursery, she loves it there and it does her no harm whatsoever.

showergel1 · 02/10/2017 21:54

I am really careful about hair and can understand where you're coming from OP. When chn in class are playing hairdressers on the carpet i insist they return their hair to how 'your mum and dad left it this morning'.
I actually don't know why, never had a parent complain but like to return chn in the state they arrived I guess!
So that said I would definitely think there will be a valid reason why it was up. Ask politely and find out.

2017SoFarSoGood · 02/10/2017 21:54

My high tacky ponytail is swinging wildly as I shake my head at this post. I'm so glad there is nothing more upsetting than this in your life today. Truly, I mean that.

BewareOfDragons · 02/10/2017 21:55

Not entirely sure how you're going to cope when she goes to school and hair is required to be tied up for PE...

Fekko · 02/10/2017 21:56

Showergel I take my hat off to you. DS was never returned clean in the state he went to nursery.

Mulberry72 · 02/10/2017 21:57

Really?!

You sound unhinged, it’s a ponytail FGS!

steff13 · 02/10/2017 21:59

I can't imagine how 1" of hair could be put in a ponytail. It scarcely seems possible.

pictish · 02/10/2017 22:00

Is this a dream?

Strokethefurrywall · 02/10/2017 22:00

This thread is amazing Grin

jay55 · 02/10/2017 22:00

Brushing curly hair out straight can be quite damaging to the hair and make it a buggr to deal with afterwards.

Fekko · 02/10/2017 22:00

The kid must've had a massive [insert your own location of choice] facelift then!

tinypop4 · 02/10/2017 22:00

2 things. 1) if her hair is so extremely short how did they get it in a ponytail?

  1. It is utterly sensible to tie hair up at nursery and school for young children. They can dip loose strands of hair in paint or food, and worse they are more susceptible to nits. My DD is in reception and has to have her hair in a 'tacky' ponytail every day with hair clips to keep the loose bits up. This is because I do not want to be dealing with nits.

This is a very strange thing to complain about.

MrLovebucket · 02/10/2017 22:01

You're mad (i.e. bonkers, not angry) as fuck Smile

roundaboutthetown · 02/10/2017 22:02

Sorry, but I find it hard to imagine that staff would have pinned your dd down to force a ponytail on her against her will. By all means ask why her hair was in a ponytail when you picked her up, because she's always got upset when you've tried to tie back her hair, but it would be weird to complain about it.

Fekko · 02/10/2017 22:03

There's got to be more to this story...

CakesRUs · 02/10/2017 22:03

Yabu.

KnackeredHag · 02/10/2017 22:04

Without wanting to sound mean, if this is the only thing you have to worry/complain about then your life is just peachy. Is it really worth a complaint?

AgathaRaisonDetra · 02/10/2017 22:05

Head lice.

Ponytail v shaving it all off. Your choice.

sparklewater · 02/10/2017 22:10

My SON (20m) came home with his hair in a high ponytail the other day. I thought he looked cute!

You could ask them how they managed to do it without her getting upset if it's really bothering you. But kids act totally different at nursery so you're overthinking it a bit tbh.
