Ponytail

So here it goes.
DD is 19 months old and attends a Montessori nursery. I wanted her to go here as I liked their teachings and I let as though the children could be themselves, free sprites that kind of thing.
DP picked her up with a tacky high pony tail in. Now, DD has the craziest hair around , it's wild , curly, had a life of its own, a bit like DD . It's just her. She will never ever let me put a slide in or do anything with it, complete little wild child.
I don't see why they tied it up?? It's not in her way, it's short and I feel as though she has been treated like a doll for the entertainment of the staff.AIBU if I complain?

You sound like an absolute nightmare and rather than a "wild child" your kid sounds like shes learning to be pretty up herself tbh

overnightangel · 02/10/2017 21:25

For someone who wants her DD to be free spirited you seem very uptight

nokidshere · 02/10/2017 21:25

Children never behave the same for other people as they do for their parents. I'm sure she was fine

caffeineandcalpol · 02/10/2017 21:27

DD wouldn't have shown interest in this kind of thing

SilverySurfer · 02/10/2017 21:27

Seriously? Hmm

caffeineandcalpol · 02/10/2017 21:29

To add , it was like a very tight pulled back tight, brushed and combed within an inch of its life and tied very tightly

My friends nursery constantly has a hairdresser corner set up because the kids never get bored of it.

You sound a bit weird about this to be totally honest.

Muddlingalongalone · 02/10/2017 21:30

I think if you go in softly softly I noticed that dd had her hair up when she got home last night, was there an activity she needed it up for/ was it getting in the way etc you'll probably get a straight answer and if it was for an "unacceptable" reason you can ask them not to in future.

OTOH If you go in guns a blazing why did you put dd's hair up in such a tacky ponytail then they will probably be defensive/touchy.

Waffles80 · 02/10/2017 21:33

You sound particularly unhinged. Your poor DD.

RebelRogue · 02/10/2017 21:34

Nits. Messy play. Hairdressers role play.

caffeineandcalpol · 02/10/2017 21:34

I just feel as though she's been used like some kind of doll, and that she should just be playing etc, I know some children at 19 Months may like role play etc but she's delayed in development and only just showing interest in playing etc , not grasped the idea of role play

OP posts:
caffeineandcalpol · 02/10/2017 21:35

Waffles.... to say 'poor DD' is slightly cruel, have a word with yourself

OP posts:
JayZed · 02/10/2017 21:35

I can assure you no nursery staff have the time to decide they want to treat a child like a doll, it was most likely getting in the way of an activity.

caffeineandcalpol · 02/10/2017 21:36

Will people please read. It would literally be impossible to get in the way of an activity

OP posts:
QueenUnicorn · 02/10/2017 21:37

Just ask "oh how did you manage to get her hair tied up? She never lets me do that". Ask in a conversational way.

PandorasXbox · 02/10/2017 21:37

So not in her eyes?

pictish · 02/10/2017 21:37

How can three inches of hair be tied back tightly? I'm not able to imagine this ponytail at all.

Bitlost · 02/10/2017 21:38

Are you for real?

Wayfarersonbaby · 02/10/2017 21:38

"tacky high ponytail" wtf Shock

MN's got them all in tonight. Do you know the mum who "treasures every piece" of Boden, OP?

On a serious note, it's no problem. Just let it go.

FridayFreddo · 02/10/2017 21:41

Free sprite
Wild child
Play with her like a doll??

Most likely it was done for sensible reasons. You do sound a little unhinged, op. There are lots more important things to get stressed about. Am sure the staff are busy enough without doing kids' hair for no reason.

Anasnake · 02/10/2017 21:41

Complain ??!!! Ffs Confused

paxillin · 02/10/2017 21:43

Headlice protection.

highinthesky · 02/10/2017 21:44

Hair tied back is policy at DDs nursery, always has been and so far she's weathered it without signs of trauma.

NameChangeFamousFolk · 02/10/2017 21:46

Oh, you crazy-hair-don't-care lot!

I feel as though she has been treated like a doll for the entertainment of the staff

Unlikely. I wouldn't complain anyway, OP, just in case, y'know. It sounds utterly batshit or something. Grin

Willswife · 02/10/2017 21:46

If it's that short, how did they tie it up? It must have been a tiny ponytail as most of her hair wouldn't have reached the band?

Most nursery settings and schools insist upon hair being tied back.

I can't believe you actually want to raise this as an issue!
