Obviously other party food but some halal/kosher/vegetarian/vegan etc required is just doing strawberry jam acceptable or will I be the talk of school for nothing more?

It's a bit mean. I would expect some protein in a sandwich. Can you stretch to some cheese at least or even egg is ham is not affordable/causes religious issues

Winosaurus · 15/09/2017 18:07

I've always offered cheese or jam, that suits most people

LineysRunner · 15/09/2017 18:07

You could also do hummus sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches, salad sandwiches, vegan cheese sandwiches ...

Fekko · 15/09/2017 18:07

Id do tomato and cucumber and some cheese ones.

I haven't had a jeely piece for years!

Xmasbaby11 · 15/09/2017 18:07

No you need to do more than that! Jam is a poor choice anyway as it's sweet. How about ..

Cheese
Humous
Cream cheese
Peanut butter

chipscheeseandcurrysauce · 15/09/2017 18:07

I would offer more of a variety than just jam sandwiches...

For vegans: vegetables/falafels and houmous is a nice sandwich, for veggies: cheese/egg/deli fillers would be nice. Obvious halal and kosher may be difficult to cater for, meat wise but they would able to have the veggie or vegan version (if they have further dietary needs

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 15/09/2017 18:07

You will be the talk of the school for a long time.

You might as well say sod it and serve pork hot dogs and Sunny delight. It will have the same result, talk wise.

PinkHeart5913 · 15/09/2017 18:08

I think it's a bit mean and Not everyone likes jam sandwiches though. I'd do jam & some cheese ones too.

Fekko · 15/09/2017 18:09

Unless they are very proper kosher then I'd buy them in (Sainsbury's and Waitrose do kosher sandwiches- just don't take them out of the packet).

smellybeanpole · 15/09/2017 18:10

Just jam ? A bit lazy.
How about humus
Cheese&cucumber
Peanut butter.
Easy and healthy.
Caters for all.

AdalindSchade · 15/09/2017 18:10

Cream cheese in some jam on others

manicinsomniac · 15/09/2017 18:10

I wouldn't really think anything of it and wouldn't be cross but I would also go hungry because I don't like jam. But then I'm a ridiculous eater and don't eat bread either so I would never expect to be catered for either.

I don't know if it's reasonable to expect most people to like one choice or not tbh. I don't know how many people are fussy. I think most people would expect a choice of at least two types of sandwiches though.

Is it supposed to be a meal or more of a drinks and nibbles type party? Probably also depends on your choice of drink - if you provide enough alcohol nobody will notice what's in your sandwiches.

TheUpsideDown · 15/09/2017 18:12

I'd probably talk about someone who only offered jam sandwiches to those requiring halal/kosher/vegetarian/vegan etc. It would come across as rather lady imo. You do need to offer at least 1 or 2 more options

TheUpsideDown · 15/09/2017 18:13

*lazy

PandorasXbox · 15/09/2017 18:14

I wouldn't. I would do cheese and ham too.

maddiemookins16mum · 15/09/2017 18:14

I'd be shocked at jam sandwiches at a party!!!

peachybeachy · 15/09/2017 18:14

well no peanuts or humous for a start incase of allergies.

If cost is an issue I would do a plain bread and butter. the kids hardly eat the sandwiches part of the food anyway..

if they are proper Kosher then they might not your food anyway - best to check.

Sandsunsea · 15/09/2017 18:16

Who cares what people think! The kids won't care, do what you want.

Floralnomad · 15/09/2017 18:17

Jam sandwiches are revolting and it does look a bit idle .

Kidsarekarma · 15/09/2017 18:18

Marmite?

Nettletheelf · 15/09/2017 18:18

If I went to a party where the only sandwiches were jam I'd think that my hosts were barmy. Sorry!

Allthebestnamesareused · 15/09/2017 18:21

Can't bear jam! Can I have marmite too? Grin

Well if the OP provides alcohol, she certainly will be the talk of the school Grin.

But seriously, there needs to be a savoury option. How about bhajis, crisps falafels and cruidites and hummus? Plain bread and butter is good, they can make crisp sandwiches. Maybe cheese or egg too?

AndromedaPerseus · 15/09/2017 18:22

I dont think jam is special enough for a party whay you need to do is fairy bread always gets eaten so result!
