AIBU- Someone has used my unusual baby name

MmmmDonuts · 09/09/2017 20:32

I wanted my baby to have a one of a kind unique name.
I made up a name that I love. It's definetly never been used before.
(I realise this sounds dodgy already)

Anyway, my baby is 7 months old and someone in my town has just given birth and used the name.
I actually feel really gutted about it.

I realise I am about to be flamed in the comments.
BUt how can I feel less gutted about this? Meh

Can someone link to the Balonz thread?

Goldfishshoals · 09/09/2017 21:04

It doesn't matter how unique a name is, as soon as you start using it, other people will hear it, mention it to others etc, and if its any good someone along the line will like it enough to use it themselves.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 09/09/2017 21:05

You don't meet many babies called D'hoffryn.

Or Anyanka, for that matter

KindergartenKop · 09/09/2017 21:05

I love Balonz.

Waffles80 · 09/09/2017 21:06

I'm a teacher and have experienced some amazing names.

A Red-Roses, who would not countenance any abbreviation.

bimbobaggins · 09/09/2017 21:06

Awe come on, you can pm me if you want, I won't tell a soul I promise.

jacktar · 09/09/2017 21:07

Is it Rumplestiltskin?

DjangoUnchained · 09/09/2017 21:07

Say it and then name change.

Easy.

is it Gary?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 09/09/2017 21:07

I've seen some names at work. From horrifically spelt to lazy naming to why would you

BikeRunSki · 09/09/2017 21:08

OMG, the Balonz thread had just had me crying with laughter all over again. Grin

Oysterbabe · 09/09/2017 21:09

I'm surprised no one has asked yet, what's the name?

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 09/09/2017 21:09

Its Zwinkle. Isn't it..(actually spelt ptwafnghi, obviously)
And it's already my middle name, and my unicorns name, and the chicken that guards the middle ring of hell
So its not original at all !!!!!!

hippyhippyshake · 09/09/2017 21:09

You can thank your lucky stars that the new Balonz has been born in September meaning that your Balonz will be in the year above meaning that you and the town will know that YOU WERE FIRST!!

arethereanyleftatall · 09/09/2017 21:09

Popetona?

ButchyRestingFace · 09/09/2017 21:09

I am rather partial to Engelbert Humperdinck as a name. I've always fancied being Mrs Humperdinck.

Sadly, Arnold George Dorsey got in there first. Sad

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 09/09/2017 21:10

Surely you knew you were just going to be asked the name OP? Just tell us then namechange.

itsbeenaverylongweek · 09/09/2017 21:10

Clearly I'm in a pissy mood tonight because the people asking if you've told anyone your baby's name are making me crazy. The child is 7 month's old, in what universe would she not have told anyone the name yet?
And breathe.

WanderlustW · 09/09/2017 21:10

Someone I know taught a 'Princess Beautiful' and her mum insisted on the full name being used. Poor soul.

I also know someone who named their first child Craig, and their second child Starlette...! 😂

ShatnersBassoon · 09/09/2017 21:11

Ericbristow-Smithe. I know both of them.

SteampunkPrincess · 09/09/2017 21:11

well if you cant say - then why did you post? did you just hoards of MNers begging for the name?

Wolfiefan · 09/09/2017 21:12

You made up a "cute" name.
Thank fuck this person has saved your child from growing up with a made up "cute" name.
You now have the chance to choose an actual name.

PetalMettle · 09/09/2017 21:12

I reckon it's a la in front - so Latasha or similar which obviously wouldn't be a one off

SteampunkPrincess · 09/09/2017 21:13

Farrah Fawcett..

MsPavlichenko · 09/09/2017 21:13

You must live in a really small town surely? I know the names of babies of friends/family/neighbours/colleagues etc, But unless I was actually checking the register for births, not a clue re anybody else!

I realise you think only you will have thought/planned this name, but I can almost guarantee you wont be. Old gimmer here. I was the first person to call a pigeon a "rat with wings" you know! And I was. In my friend group at 17 or so. But, turns out, all over the world...

Have a look back in a couple of years and I bet that there will be more than two with "your name" Enjoy your baby, the years will fly by.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 09/09/2017 21:14

Is it Emma-dale?

Splinkie?
Flame? Or maybe Flamie-Mae.
