AIBU- Someone has used my unusual baby name

MmmmDonuts · 09/09/2017 20:32

I wanted my baby to have a one of a kind unique name.
I made up a name that I love. It's definetly never been used before.
(I realise this sounds dodgy already)

Anyway, my baby is 7 months old and someone in my town has just given birth and used the name.
I actually feel really gutted about it.

I realise I am about to be flamed in the comments.
BUt how can I feel less gutted about this? Meh

I personally need to know the name. Tell me, I wont laugh like these other bitches Grin

SavoyCabbage · 09/09/2017 20:39

That's what happens though. People hear someone in the post office saying their next door neighbour had a baby and called it Balonz and they tell their daughter and the daughter thinks 'that's a nice name, I'll call my baby Balonz' then she tells her woodwork teacher's yoga guru and then he calls his baby Balonz too.

Crunchymum · 09/09/2017 20:40

In a hundred years someone might do some research into the origins of a really popular name and they will trace it back to your town. Yours will still be the first. (or maybe there will only every two people with that name).

endehors · 09/09/2017 20:43

Impossible to tell you if you are being unreasonable without knowing the name. It might not be as 'unique' as you think...

BackieJerkhart · 09/09/2017 20:43

Are you sure you made it up? How did someone else use it if you were the first person to ever think of it? Did you tell people it?

BrieAndChilli · 09/09/2017 20:43

I imagine the first person to call thier child Emma or Daniel probably felt the same way! In a 100 years time there will probably be at least 1 child in every school with your babies name!!

FlyingGiraffeBox · 09/09/2017 20:43

You can feel less gutted by realising that on a planet of billions of people, with many trillions more throughout history, the idea that you have come up with a totally unique series of mouth sounds to refer to your baby that has never and will never again be used to refer to another human is absurd.

Was that helpful?Smile

CANCEL THE CHEQUE!
I mean: What's the Name?!

If it's "Bear", YABU, Cheryl.

GeekyWombat · 09/09/2017 20:45

What's the name?

thegreenlight · 09/09/2017 20:45

I know a couple who put two 'random' syllables together to make a unique baby name. Turns out the two syllables made a perfectly normal name they just hadn't heard before and the child ended up being one of 4 in her class (only difference was the weird spelling).

IAmTheDragon · 09/09/2017 20:45

There are only 26 letters in the English language. Chances are, your child's random combination of letters has been come up with several times over before.

HTH!

Moanyoldcow · 09/09/2017 20:45

Is it really made up (which would be a bit odd in itself) or is it possible it's a 'real' name you just hadn't heard of?

LesleyGarrettsingsdontyouknow · 09/09/2017 20:46

Ballonz Grin

PicklingGherkins · 09/09/2017 20:46

I need to find the Ballonz thread. I laughed so hard at the incongruity.

Snap8TheCat · 09/09/2017 20:46

Oh what's the name greenlight?

expatinscotland · 09/09/2017 20:46

It's McKenna-Luna, right?

Elledouble · 09/09/2017 20:47

Yeh, no-one owns a name I'm afraid.

I chose a real name that I'd checked the ONS table for and knew there were only a handful each year.

tell us what it is!

Doramaybe · 09/09/2017 20:47

Names like Mary and John are very safe from copying these days, and are lovely names too.

supersop60 · 09/09/2017 20:48

Try to be flattered OP. I expect the latest person heard the name, and thought 'that's a great name!'
I did hear of a child called Gooey - the parents had seen the name Guy written down and didn't know how it was pronounced....

Unless you named your child P'Xninini2, more than one person has probably used the same name.

I remember 5 years ago when loads of American's had the same "original" idea to name their child Nevaeh.

Wotrewelookinat · 09/09/2017 20:50

Has anybody asked you what the name is yet??
