Smoking vs Vaping

AIBU to find gaping more annoying than smoking? I know that a lot of people use it to quit smoking but then they just see to get hooked on vaping instead. On top of it they seem less ashamed than smokers when walking around blowing clouds of vapor all over the place. I find both habits disgusting and antisocial but most people seem to dislike smoking more. Am I the only one?

YABU. When will people just accept that smokers are addicted to nicotine and CANT always just give everything up. Good for you for never smoking.

winterwinter · 01/09/2017 12:27

Honestly when someone chooses to stand or sit next to me and then feigns a coughing fit in disgust I make an attempt to blow more vape that way. I have asthma and my doctor told me that starting to vape was the best thing I ever did, didn't even encourage me to try and stop.

expatinscotland · 01/09/2017 13:34

'The visual of people almost non-stop sucking on their little pipes makes me feel a bit ill.'

You need to get out more.

ShotsFired · 01/09/2017 14:39

@expatinscotland You need to get out more.

But that is where I see them all! Really you should be telling me to stay in more Grin

ThymeLordIsSpartacus · 01/09/2017 14:46

Pencils....you carry on believing it's perfectly harmless if that's what you want to do, but no matter how much rubbish you print out off the internet you won't convince me

Have you not read the information, the links and the sources that Pencils has provided? You can't call any of it rubbish off the internet Confused Well you can, but it'd be total nonsense....

Whatthefucknameisntalreadytake · 01/09/2017 14:58

Some people just always have to be angry about something. If it wasn't vaping it'd be something else.

YourVagesty · 01/09/2017 15:03

Bravo Pencils - have loved all of your posts on here

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/09/2017 15:17

As so many of these threads show, it's not really about health issues at all; it's about a sinister need to judge and control, allied to a hefty dose of hysteria

Now that practically everything is unmentionable for fear of being seen to "judge", the nastiness has to go somewhere. We can't criticise the obese as that's "fat shaming", we can't complain about badly behaved kids as - at least according to MN - they've practically all got SN - and so on and so on

But by god we can rant about vapers, so let's all pile in with increasingly ludicrous claims

TabbyMumz · 01/09/2017 16:09

Puzzled..."a sinister need to judge and control".....err no, believe it or not, some people just don't like other people vaping around them. Think you are just reading far too much into it.

TabbyMumz · 01/09/2017 16:14

And aren't vapers controlling other people when they force them to breath in clouds of your yucky stuff.

expatinscotland · 01/09/2017 16:14

I'm picking up my vape and going off in search of these mysterious clouds of vape that encompass 10-20 people at a go! Like searching for Merlin's beard hairs, I reckon.

Ollivander84 · 01/09/2017 16:22

It's like breathing in steam. It won't kill you. Better breathing in vape than exhaust fumes or cigarette smoke

expatinscotland · 01/09/2017 16:28

'And aren't vapers controlling other people when they force them to breath in clouds of your yucky stuff.'

Nah, they can just get the fuck out of my way.

Orangebird69 · 01/09/2017 16:34

I 💓 expat 😂

Titanz · 01/09/2017 16:35

puzzled Grin

IWouldLikeToSeeTheseMangoes · 01/09/2017 16:48

If your child is reacting to scented vapour in such a way there's either something wrong with him or he's caught your hysteria and is reacting to how you react.

I had the exact same thought titanz. Either he has severe asthma/allergies and should see a doctor or this is learned over dramatic behaviour from say, for example, a parent who does emphatic coughing and/or passive aggressive sighing at smokers within a mile radius.

GeillisTheWitch · 01/09/2017 17:20

Don't forget ostentatious waving of hand in front of face Grin.

Spangles1963 · 01/09/2017 18:37

It's only steam,not smoke.

Sallystyle · 01/09/2017 18:39

Don't forget ostentatious waving of hand in front of face

Those people are just asking to get a face full of vape.

Sallystyle · 01/09/2017 18:41

I hate car drivers who make me breathe in their yucky stuff :(

They are so controlling.

Bearlover16 · 01/09/2017 18:49

I have vaped for over 2 years now having been a hard core smoker for many years. It's got me off the fags. There are some really twatty comments on here.

ThymeLordIsSpartacus · 01/09/2017 18:49

I hate Sue on reception. Making me breathe in her clouds of black opium perfume. Controlling cow.

theymademejoin · 01/09/2017 19:18

Here's a recent study in a reputable journal that found vaping can cause oral disease

www.impactjournals.com/oncotarget/index.php?journal=oncotarget&page=article&op=view&path%5B%5D=12857

Pencil is pushing the research by the British public health group but completely neglects to mention that there are flaws in the methodology and a definite bias in the way they are reporting the research which calls into question the conclusions they are drawing.

They are advocating vaping as an alternative to smoking tobacco as there are no longitudinal studies done yet and the current research suggests vaping is less damaging to smokers than tobacco, and that is cheaper to the public purse. Public health is about cost reduction, nothing else. However, the limited level of research so far means that new research, such as the study on oral diseases, is looking at different types of damage that have not been anticipated in the current research.

Ollivander84 · 01/09/2017 19:23

See I was risking oral disease by smoking anyway. Vaping to me is a much lesser evil
My gums have improved, my dentist commented on them. And smoking was also destroying cells and impeding healing

theymademejoin · 01/09/2017 19:34

The point is that the claim that vaping is safe is based on limited research. New research is finding that is not the case. We simply don't know what the long term affects are until longitudinal studies have been conducted.

While smokers may feel it's an acceptable risk to switch to e-cigs, non smokers should not have to be exposed to potential dangers in order to reduce risks for smokers.
