Smoking vs Vaping

AIBU to find gaping more annoying than smoking? I know that a lot of people use it to quit smoking but then they just see to get hooked on vaping instead. On top of it they seem less ashamed than smokers when walking around blowing clouds of vapor all over the place. I find both habits disgusting and antisocial but most people seem to dislike smoking more. Am I the only one?

Inconsiderate vapers do annoy me because it makes it much harder for the majority of people who vape and cause absolutely no harm or inconvenience to anybody else. Smaller vaping kits emit a tiny amount of vapour that is not necessarily strongly flavoured. It's the huge kits that people use to create massive clouds when walking around that can be slightly unpleasant for other people to walk into.

So I think that if somebody is vaping inconsiderately and genuinely blowing clouds of unpleasant vapour towards you, then you are perfectly reasonable to ask them politely if they could avoid doing it. But don't tar all vapers with the same brush because much of the time you wouldn't actually notice somebody vaping unless you could see it. And it is doing you no harm at all.

Personally I find strong coffee or certain hot food smells in enclosed spaces much more unpleasant than any vaping I have ever been around. But I would never dream of telling somebody they have a bad and damaging caffeine or junk food habit (even though it is often true) or of wafting their smells out of my face. It's their choice and we all choose to do things that other people might occasionally find annoying.

The majority of people around where I lived Vw do the massive cloud of cotton candy smelling steam thing. I hate the smell and get rather embarrassed when it gets caught in my hair because it smells a bit like cheap perfume as opposed to getting tobacco smoke caught in clothing-everyone knows that it's just from sons inconsiderate smoker you were standing next to a traffic light or sonething. I don't really care about small kit capers, almost don't notice them.

I cannot stand capers, vile horrible little things.

When I was teaching at a college once a student whipped out a vapouriser thing.
I found out that according to college rules they were to be treated the same way as normal cigarettes. Not in my classroom mate!
I agree that putting those who want to give up in the same smoking shelter as those smoking normal cigarettes seems unfair but I do not think they should be with the general population anywhere that smoking would not be permitted.

Sorry, as an ex smoker and current vaper I will work harder on being ASHAMED of myself to assist non-smokers/never-smoked/vape/smog/fog haters pat their high horse and congratulate themselves on not being as disgusting and thoughtless as me.

Sure I'd prefer everyone to completely stop, but is seemingly the better option for both smoker and people in their environment. They should absolutely not be ashamed.

You've walked through a cloud of vapour and you/other people can still smell it in your hair later?! I find that hard to believe. I've never heard that complaint from anyone else and there have been a fair few threads on here.

I dislike the huge clouds of vapour but you are being unbelievably dramatic.

I've never smoked. I loathe the smell of cigarette and cigar smoke (pipe tobacco is not so bad but apparently it's far worse for the smoker). But I don't have a problem with vaping at all. Instead of being banished to the garden, DSis can now sit next to me and carry on talking whilst emitting a faint whiff of vanilla. Massive improvement. That's before you get onto the improvement in her eyes, skin, and budget!

I dare say some daft types will find something really harmful to put in their tank, if they haven't already, because some are never happy unless they're trying to damage themselves, but you can't legislate against stupidity. At least they're only sucking it into their own lungs instead of spreading it generously through the atmosphere.

I think both smoking and vaping are disgusting. I really don't want to walk through massive clouds of pure yuck that hasn't been tested yet. We have no idea at all that it doesn't contain something really nasty that could have an effect in health five or ten years down the line. Apart from that, vaping just looks ridiculous, all that massive amount of smoke coming out of people's noses and mouth!!!

Oh and onlyjustme At uni earlier this year I was in a lecture on Kafka's Metamorphosis (irrelevant) led by Will Self and he whipped out a vape and started having a chuff whilst lecturing! Put that in ya pipe and smoke it!

A relative of mine is a cancer specialist and thoracic (lung) surgeon. They are very, very pro vaping. I strongly approve of people who vape instead of smoking.

Pencilsinspace.....myeh right..they used to think cigarettes were healthy too. People have only been smoking these disgusting vape things for a short space of time....give it five, ten years or longer...then the evidence will start to come out.

I'm not at all ashamed of vaping. Wasn't ashamed of smoking when I used to do that, either.

I think vaping is far too new to know how safe it is, for years smoking was hailed as safe and a cure for many things so I don't think we should blindly trust that. I can't stand the smell of smoking and don't like breathing in vape either. I do think it's sadly seem as trendy and hipster especially in London where vape cafes are everywhere and no I don't think it's a great development and I'd like it to be given the same restrictions as smoking in pubs and restaurants etc.

I've always thought each to their own as long as your habit doesn't affect others....I'm addicted to crisps but I wouldn't walk along the high street shoving them down people's throats.
