welcome Rita and all delurkers :)

I think we all need to remember that as well as having a duty to keep watching, we should also resist all that Trump stands for out in the further online world and in the real world. I suspect most of us do that :)

That's why I'm going to have to say goodbye to my nectar account now they've partnered with the Daily Mail. Which is a bloody shame really as we use it loads.

Outraged and paying attention

Natsku am watching the news from Turku with alarm.

Horrible news but reassuring to see how quickly the police reacted, arresting the attacker (without killing him so they can interrogate him) within minutes. Two dead and 6 injured, security tightened country-wide. Still no confirmation that its terror-related but I reckon its likely considering the agencies investigating. I have a friend in Turku who I haven't heard from but I figure the odds of him being one of the attacked are pretty slim.

FantasticButtocks · 19/08/2017 08:14

Morning all BrewStill paying attention here.

Who is Bannon wanting to be at 'war' with? Confused

Heather Heyer's mother is incredible, her daughter would have been so proud. Just as proud as her mum is of her SadSad

newroundhere · 19/08/2017 08:15

Also delurking to say hi

Thanks for all the work to keep these threads updates - I've been following for a while.

I'm still struggling to understand how anyone can support this pathetic excuse for a POTUS but sadly it seems there are still plenty of them around Confused

Scary times....

Lweji · 19/08/2017 08:17

but even the hydra was defeated in the end

Yes, by cauterising the wound from each head.
There's a lesson there somewhere.

Apols if posted before. CNN round up the last four weeks:

I just can't keep up!

PerkingFaintly · 19/08/2017 08:22

Hope your friend is OK, Natsku.

Glad to hear they're able to interrogate the attacker.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 19/08/2017 08:24

The comments on YouTube regarding Heather's mother are just awful blaming her for allowing her daughter to get mixed up with the dreaded Left! How anyone can equate peacefully protesting with driving a car into a crowd is just Shock

Lweji · 19/08/2017 08:26

When he said "I did not have sex with that woman", do you remember how much coverage and how much outrage just that one small lie generated? That lie was enough to get him impeached

Well, he wasn't impeached in the Senate.
Lies counted because he was under oath then.
Trump will eventually be asked to testify before a grand jury, I hope. Mueller is setting things up nicely.
But also notice the far-right making their presence felt.
He won't go down without a fight and it won't be in the courts.

blueskyinmarch · 19/08/2017 08:29

I am both outraged and paying attention. Signing in to the new thread.

Is the end nigh yet? Please say it is. I can't take much more.

Fekko · 19/08/2017 08:32

I'm just scared of what might be to follow. Are we being softened up for an alien takeover? 👽

Nerfballs · 19/08/2017 08:36

@Honey I've used Mumsnet threads before to try get a handle on what dual citizenship would mean, it's all a bit of a tangle isn't it? We were planning to live in the US for a bit when they're older, but honestly don't think that'll happen until things stabilise and start going in a direction I can back and feel safe in (right or left doesn't matter as much as just giving decent human rights to all people, living up to all men created equal, and not begrudgingly either!)

Not sure how much I'll contribute to these threads - I'm on opposite time zone to most of you I think (way down in NZ, it's my night time now) and crazy stuff happens while I'm sleeping! But wanted to let you know I'm here reading along, benefiting from all your hard work, and rooting for anyone affected by 45 and resisting anyway.

BiglyBadgers · 19/08/2017 08:38

Morning all. Lovely to see so many lurkers coming out into the open Grin

I had a dream last night that Trump resigned. I woke up all excited and then, as I remembered it was only a dream, I put off putting on the news as long as possible, so as not to ruin the beautiful moment. Wink

TheNorthWestPawsage · 19/08/2017 08:41

Morning my fellow outraged peeps - old and new!
I think Bannon's leaving may be tactical. It looks like he thinks he can get away with a lot more by now being on the outside. It will be interesting to see if he shown to be still in touch with El Trumpo over the next few weeks - sort of a 'reverse mole'?

Fekko · 19/08/2017 08:42

I'm now at the stage when I doubt everything I read/hear. But maybe that's what they want...

badbadhusky · 19/08/2017 08:43

DH and I call the lingering impression after a memorable dream "dream residue" - the dream residue after a Trump resignation dream sounds objectively fantastic. I have envy.

OuaisMaisBon · 19/08/2017 08:44

Good morning, all, and thanks for the new thread, lionheart.
The Hydra image is superb (particularly as it is my favourite Greek island so my imagination is going wild!).
I just found this. The source is anonymous. It's strangely disturbing to me.

Outraged place mark

Does anyone else feel like today could be very interesting indeed?

OuaisMaisBon · 19/08/2017 08:48

So, I put Steve Bannon's name in and was mildly amused.

View from Germany - Der Spiegel (in English)

The reference to his father & the KKK led me to This

There's a Neo-Nazi march planned for today in Berlin

TheNorthWestPawsage · 19/08/2017 08:52

Welcome Nerf - my DH is American and our DC have dual nationality although they have never lived in the US. I would say don't bother with it until you think you/they may actually live there. Our DC are now over 18 and have to submit a US tax declaration (and also pay US taxes if they have any US income/savings) every year irrespective of whether they are in US or not - for the rest of their lives!

But on the other hand, they are allowed to vote in Presidential elections - soooo....

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 19/08/2017 08:53

fekko maybe not aliens

@SimonClaydon
So is the Mercer Bannon plan, for Trump to be so outrageous so extreme, that when Pence comes in, the mild mannered Nazi appears acceptable?
Is the end game such that Pence takes over & everyone is so relieved to be rid of Trump, they are wiling to over look Pences fascist roots?
He knows when to keep his mouth shut, will not rail on twitter, if war is declared it will seem rational & thoughtful. He is still a Nazi.
Do NOT be fooled into accepting him. He would never have got the votes to get there. This is the only way he would manage it.
Is Pence the end game! Do not under estimate the cunning or evil that surrounds Trump and supports Pence.
They must both go.
Flynn was only a danger to Pence not trump
Flynn is also the only one to have fallen on his sword This is not the end game it's the opening!

Lweji · 19/08/2017 09:04

There's a Neo-Nazi march planned for today in Berlin

I'd suspect those marches are allowed for the German police to track who could cause trouble. Easier than normal surveillance.

BitOfANameChange · 19/08/2017 09:04

If Trump goes, that would put Pence in the seat. I'm trying to decide if he's actually worse than Trump, I've read a lot of worrying stuff about his views.
