AIBU to not understand MRA

ANewAlias · 15/08/2017 08:59

I get that in the past women have had it tougher than men in most cultures.

This isn't the case anymore. Men / boys are facing their own challenges yet the term MRA is an insult. Is it because it's been hi-jacked in a similar way to the flag of St George has? If so, what is an unloaded alternative?

If it isn't hi-jacked, why is it used as an insult?

I'm not trying to goad. I just want a balanced answer which Google hasn't provided and I'm not sure any part of MN would either.

OP posts:

My phone made it seem like there was only one page to reply to! Imagine my shock at commenting only to find out the whole thread was the work of an MRA troll

Datun · 15/08/2017 16:04

LucyLugosi

And your comment to make perfect sense, nonetheless! Smile

Datun · 15/08/2017 16:05

*made

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 15/08/2017 16:15

Just another International MRA of Mystery...

Who was that masked man.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 15/08/2017 16:21

The OP claims to be making dispassionate enquiries yet persists in loading the scales with tendentious statements to the effect that feminism is over etc (if so why are you here, dull bulb).
Disingenuous? Just not very bright? Or both? (I know what I think)

Datun · 15/08/2017 16:27

Yup. The OP loves stating their opinion of feminism.

But because no one cares about their opinion of feminism, they keep repeating it.

Yawn.

BertrandRussell · 15/08/2017 16:35

"We all value our privacy. I value mine because I'm able to have anonymous views which could get me fired if aired in public."

My mind is boggling.........

TinyRick · 15/08/2017 16:37

Correct, I'm not naive.Certainly cleverer than average. How you seem to know about my attainment and previous experience on this topic is beyond me though. What's your secret?

No secret, OP.

Only the fact you pop on into any AIBU post that has even a slight feminist slant and you derail it every single time with the exact phrases and words you have used here.

It ain't rocket surgery Wink

TinyRick · 15/08/2017 16:40

Oh and it's TinyRick

I have no penis whatsoever to speak of.

PricklyBall · 15/08/2017 17:42

Quite Bert. Those views which could get him fired if aired publicly. About which he has simultaneously written extensively and which have shaped education policy.

The internal inconsistency is strong in this one.

Or as a PP put it more succinctly upthread, "chinny reckon".

Datun · 15/08/2017 17:49

And which he would happily PM to a completely random stranger on the Internet, despite the knowledge of which could get him fired and ruin his life.

Datun · 15/08/2017 17:50

...who he called an idiot.

AltheaThoon · 15/08/2017 17:53

To me it's like the difference between transgendered people and Trans Activists. Not all trans people are TAs. Not all those working to improve certain situations for men are MRAs.

MRAs seem to be angry that there are refuges for women but not men, but don't campaign for refuges or seek to help the men who need them. They scream 'inequality' when women are awarded full residency whilst advising fathers to withhold CSA money.

MRAs take down websites like MAN. Why? Because it's a place where (primarily) women gather to share opinions and that, to them, is unacceptable.

No feminist I've met want to deny rights to men, or become superior. I'm not sure where you're meeting these feminists.

AltheaThoon · 15/08/2017 17:55

Not MAN, MN!

PricklyBall · 15/08/2017 17:55

Maybe he's confusing using google to gather random factoids for his latest lecture to the Education Secretary with working for Google and spamming the entire workforce with ten page (or was it eleven page) memos on why his female colleagues are intellectually inferior, on company time.

BorisTrumpsHair · 15/08/2017 18:06

MRA's largely aren't about promoting mens rights. They aren't campaigning to support male rape or DV victims for example. They aren't campaigning for less men of colour in prison. Etc. MRA's are mostly about undermining women's rights and shouting women down.

That is why they are largely thought of as a bunch of willfully ignorant self centered aggressive pricks, on MN and elsewhere.

mirime · 15/08/2017 18:19

Simple reason - the only MRA types I've ever seen all complain bitterly that rape in marriage is illegal and say that the vast majority of rape accusations are lies.

Except seemingly for you, but that would make you the exception and therefore not typical.

I know a number of people who consider themselves feminists, they like men and none of them go round quoting the SCUM manifesto or claiming all men are rapists - not even those who have actually been raped/sexually assaulted.

SophoclesTheFox · 15/08/2017 18:41

If you're as bright as you think you are, OP, you're bright enough to realise that your posting style and your particular suite of interests stick out like a flamingo in a flock of ducks Grin

I am keen to see the list of feminists who want all men dead. I'd settle for a feminist who has actually killed someone in then name of feminism instead. Anything along those lines would be tickety-boo. I'll wait here.

TheEgregiousPeach · 15/08/2017 18:49

Given the OP's disappearance, I can only assume the Department of Education have been in touch needing a bit of help with their policies...

SophoclesTheFox · 15/08/2017 18:58

Also, I'm curious, OP.

You claim that you're widely published in your field on your particular topic expertise.

But you can't reveal anything about it, because your views would get you sacked.

The views that presumably you are lauded for publishing.

I'm not sure that quite makes sense. But I'm sure you'll be back shortly to tell me that I'm too stupid to understand you.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 15/08/2017 19:08

MRAs are a bit like holocaust deniers in their inability to spot the internal inconsistencies of their ideology. On the one hand, it didn't happen. Or if it did, it wasn't that bad. And anyway, they sort of deserved it. While the rest of us wonder quite how pathetic you have to be to want to spend your time on this stuff.

Datun · 15/08/2017 19:09

A pound to a penny in the OP is talking about their secret sexist views...

MrsDustyBusty · 15/08/2017 19:21

I'm pretty horrified by you so-called "ladies" and your quite horrid treatment of this person who's definitely a distinguished lady expert on some topic. If you could just stop this nagging you might learn something from what is almost certainly an eminent lady expert.

I think it's most gratifying that she walks among us to ladysplain the nature, origin and history of feminism to those of us who can scarcely be expected to know anything about the man's natural arena of governance and laws and other complicated things.

Also she's an MRAS, so you know that's gotta be great. If only you females would be quiet for a moment, perhaps you could actually do something constructive, like abandon feminism? The chaps aren't keen, you know.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 15/08/2017 19:28

Op obviously hasn't seen or heard Mike Buchanan he is so full of contempt for women who are intelligent

Or maybe the op has Hmm

WellErrr · 15/08/2017 19:31

Correct, I'm not naive.Certainly cleverer than average. How you seem to know about my attainment and previous experience on this topic is beyond me though. What's your secret?

Well you certainly seem to think you're rather clever...Wink

It's fairly obvious to anyone who's read any if your many, many posts on how amazing being a MRA is though. You're not exactly shy about the subject.

Whether you're a man or not, you certainly behave like one, the way you spend an inordinate amount of time coming into female spaces and telling us how wrong we are about everything.

So, what am I? I'm one of the majority of people who don't want to be labelled a feminist

Oh but hang on - only a little earlier you said -

I do fight, fundraise, raise awareness and hold events. All this despite being a woman and a feminist.

Make your fucking mind up, mate Grin
If you can't keep up, you can't expect us to!
