On trip with friends is so with parenting styles

So I'm over in France with some very good friends but problems have finally arisen... It turns out they want to stay in the pool and I want to go out and explore. (we only have one car). But anyways the way I see it, the kids yes might get bored but at least they'd get some "culture" out of it. I was raised that way, and frankly I thank my parents for that. Other minor issue was that they chose a mega tacky restaurant for lunch that I really did t want to go, but there was no way I could change their mind and thought they could compromise. So yes AIBU for being annoyed with them?

Just because your away together doesn't mean you have to live in each other's pockets surely? If they want to stay in why can't you use the car? Or hire another?

SuburbanRhonda · 03/08/2017 18:15

Why did you choose to go on holiday with people who are so different from you?

Your OP doesn't make sense btw.

lifebook · 03/08/2017 18:16

Well you can take the car and go out exploring if they want to stay by the pool as they won't be needing the car will they - sorted Smile

early30smum · 03/08/2017 18:16

Going on holiday with families who have very different views on food/parenting/holiday activities is not a good idea... as you've found out.

Because our daughter won't want to come with us (and that's within reason), but I think she should come and explore but don't want to upset her.

If they want to stay put why can't you take the car and go out for the day.
Re lunch agree to take turns to pick provided you all stick to places within budget or eat seperatley some nights / lunches.

Really don't see much to be annoyed about tbh. You agreed to holiday together not get surgically joined at the hip for the week.

Iloveanimals · 03/08/2017 18:17

Just don't go with them again.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 03/08/2017 18:17

Mega tacky, how so?

isthistoonosy · 03/08/2017 18:18

How old is dd?
Under 12 tell her she is going, teen leave her with the others.

WhatILoved · 03/08/2017 18:18

Just take the car. They will be happy to have the pool to themselves. Don't feel you need to stick together all the time

Sirzy · 03/08/2017 18:18

Well your either firm with her and tell her to come or you stay and let her have fun

Or ask your friends to watch her for a few hours and go without complaining children!

revolution909 · 03/08/2017 18:18

We thought we were way more similar BTW. And no, I don't think they have to do what I want. I think it's a give and take. And we'll you kind of agree on a place before you blindly decide that's where we all should go

OP posts:
Hulababy · 03/08/2017 18:20

Just tell your Dd that's what you are doing as a family. Give her a time for leaving and a rough idea when back.

How old is she?

honeylulu · 03/08/2017 18:20

Can you ask them to mind your daughter for a couple of hours if she doesn't want to go?

revolution909 · 03/08/2017 18:21

But I don't care a out complaining children! You can't escape that!! Also because of budget restrictions we could only do a couple of meals out :/. Also it was a wild west themed restaurant in France

OP posts:
Alexkate2468 · 03/08/2017 18:21

Just do what you want to do anyway. They don't need the car if there by the pool, either insist on dd coming or leave her with the others. Do you need to eat in the same x restaurants? Can you do your choice another day? I don't think any of these issues are ones that can't be sorted out.

revolution909 · 03/08/2017 18:22

My daughter is 6 BTW, but at that age I was take to archeological sites, museums, etc...

sooperdooper · 03/08/2017 18:22

So do your own thing with your family, if they want to stay at the pool they don't need the car so just take it - why the drama? Confused

Sirzy · 03/08/2017 18:23

So one, maybe two, people out of a whole party want to go to the museum or whatever and you expect everyone to tag along?

revolution909 · 03/08/2017 18:24

It's our last day tomorrow and I'd really want to mend things but I don't know how... And you know, I like to share things with kids but they just grab them out of the shops I take them too as they're to worried they'll make a mess and such but they're fine!!

OP posts:
Mumof56 · 03/08/2017 18:24

Your child doesn't want to go and neithwe do your friends. If you find the culture great why don't you go on your own?

revolution909 · 03/08/2017 18:24

The drama is because they didn't tell me they didn't want to do it until we were half way there...

OP posts:
revolution909 · 03/08/2017 18:25

That's what I've been doing in the mornings, I set off and explore on my own.
