nakedscientist · 26/07/2017 23:04

I was 42 and DH 44 with our fifth. Fantastic experience, the best so far!

MrsEricBana · 26/07/2017 23:05

Yep nothing at all. A relative of mine her late 40s and him early 50s when had their first and I did think they might struggle with tiredness.

BabychamSocialist · 26/07/2017 23:06

We were 26 and 27 when we adopted.

My mum and dad had kids between the ages of 25 and 43 so you're not alone!

becotide · 26/07/2017 23:06

Nothing weird about it - there are benefits to age just as there are to youth. Certainly I am more patient and accepting at 37 than I was at 22, but I cannot tell if that's due to age or simply due to 14 years at the coal front

LaContessaDiPlump · 26/07/2017 23:06

Relatively normal, if possibly a bit old in my (very private in RL) opinion. In my defence I come from a family where women routinely marry at 18-25 and have popped out around 4 babies conservative estimate by age 39.....

paxillin · 26/07/2017 23:07

In the current primary school class of DC, there are three couples with parents older than this (at birth) that I know of (among 30 kids). So among the older ones, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Teatowelfairy · 26/07/2017 23:07

My first thought was absolutely nothing.
Second thought was "umm I'm not sure I understand what I'm meant to be thinking"
Third thought "When I turn 39 our eldest will be 20, youngest will be 10. Fuck I could be a granny in my 30s hopefully not!"

I only got that far bc I was really thinking about your question, otherwise I guess I honestly wouldn't think anything about parents expecting at 39 & 44.

BadToTheBone · 26/07/2017 23:07

I was 38 when I had dc2, perfectly normal, loads of parents around my age at school.

Zippydoodah · 26/07/2017 23:10

I was 38, DH 43 when we had 2nd

Vonklump · 26/07/2017 23:10

My first thought was And?

xyzandabc · 26/07/2017 23:11

My 1st thought? What are you asking, don't understand.

Loads of 39 and 44 yr olds are parents.

Have I missed something?

Grilledaubergines · 26/07/2017 23:11

I feel like I'm in a parallel universe reading the OP. It's a completely normal age to have a child, whether that's first, third, fifth... most people I know i.e friends, relations, school parents would have been late 30s/early to mid 40s at the time of their first child being born. It is what it is. Pros and cons whatever age.

Chickydoo · 26/07/2017 23:11

I was 37 DH 50 when we had our 3rd

Saysomething88 · 26/07/2017 23:13

Why not, you're already in the throws of it with your first 2 anyway. But it's not about having a baby at 39/40, it's about doing the school run at 50 odd. Personal opinion, but I struggle with my 2 at 29

PyongyangKipperbang · 26/07/2017 23:13

I was 38 and he was 46 when we had DD, so fine in my book!

And who is going to know anyway?!

toastandbutterandjam · 26/07/2017 23:14

My best friend is an only child. Her mum was 42 and dad 52 when she was born!
You're still youngGrin

Patienceisvirtuous · 26/07/2017 23:14

I just had my first DC at 39. Took ages to meet the right person, then had years of fertility struggles. Couldn't give a stuff if someone out there is judging my age :/

Go for it if you want OP. I intend to try for DC2

ButterfliesandMoths · 26/07/2017 23:14

Normal these days.
Go for it 😁

Patienceisvirtuous · 26/07/2017 23:15

Slightly different in that my DH is 30...

NameChangeFamousFolk · 26/07/2017 23:15

Totally normal round here? The same ages me and DH were when we started a family of three. Wouldn't bat an eyelid.

Ohmyfuck · 26/07/2017 23:15

Nothing unusual. Really. All good. :-)

TheweewitchRoz · 26/07/2017 23:16

First thought = old (sorry!)

PyongyangKipperbang · 26/07/2017 23:16

I should add that DD is now 6 so I am 44 and DH is 52, no issues. Although DS1 (26) and DD1 (20) are both paranoid that whenever they takes DD4 out people will think that they are her parents :o

We have 7 altogether, so get judged far more on that then our ages.

RedStripeIassie · 26/07/2017 23:17

Completely normal. There are loads of older parents at our preschool/primary. They tend to be a bit posher and have their own clique but my sisters one of them so I hang out too.

Zoflorabore · 26/07/2017 23:17

My friend had her first at 19, 2 dc in the middle and then twins at 43.
A lot of people ask if she's the grandmother Confused

Lots of my old school friends aged 39/40 are having their first babies.
I'm glad I'm done as I would feel too old but I do have a chronic health condition.

Go for it!
