I've just had my hair done, hair extensions at the hairdressers, altogether £410 and I didn't tip.
Should I of ?
I'm moving in the next few weeks and as its a council house I need to buy all new carpets as its basically a empty shell so i need every penny I can get really.
Do you tip?
And if so how much?

Shock

This poster seems to want to raise people's blood pressure...

Hair extensions do cost quite a bit... especially if they're bonded. It all depends on the brand of extensions, how long it takes (how many appointments could the hairdresser fit in in that time period) and aftercare as well as what salon it is (chain, independent, mobile)

DotForShort · 21/07/2017 17:08

I always do but I'm not British. Tipping is expected in my culture and I can't seem to break the habit.

But £410? Are your extensions made of solid gold?

hrfvenia · 21/07/2017 17:08

You say that you are treating yourself as a one off but then mention that they used to be £360..

I call bull!!

AtHomeDadGlos · 21/07/2017 17:09

You live in a council house and just spent £410 on a hair cut?!

It's enough to make you vote Tory!

SheSaidHeSaid · 21/07/2017 17:10

You should have tipped.

You also probably also should have thought about the fact that you need carpets before paying hundreds of pounds to have someone else's hair attached to your head if every penny counts.

chipscheeseandcurrysauce · 21/07/2017 17:12

@AtHomeDadGlos living in a council house doesn't mean they're on benefits... private rental/mortgages are really expensive especially down south!

flickerty · 21/07/2017 17:12

I don't tip my hairdresser but I give the young girl who washes my hair (and gives theeeee most amazing head massage) £20

peachgreen · 21/07/2017 17:12

@DailyMailReadersAreThick Fair enough! Mostly I tip because I believe my hairdresser deserves it (and the girl who washes and dyes my hair).

steff13 · 21/07/2017 17:12

I always tip 25%, but I'm in the US, tipping is the norm here.

peachgreen · 21/07/2017 17:14

Ahh I was really hoping nobody would pick up on the £410 haircut / council house bait as no doubt nothing would have annoyed the OP more than if we all just ignored it!

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 17:15

Last time I had them done they were £360
I have had extensions before, not for a while.
Not that I should have to justify myself ...bloody hell

My hair was in such a state..extensions were the only answer.
Hopefully they'll mean my hair grows a bit stronger

I stuck up for you quite extensively on your last thread but your goading is pretty transparent by this point.

I was just looking at the other thread again and just thinking the same.

Cuckingfunt1981 · 21/07/2017 17:23

I always tip . Just a couple quid tho

AtHomeDadGlos · 21/07/2017 17:24

Maybe you could've rung round all your utilities etc while having your hair done? I seem to remember that making a few phone calls was too much of a challenge for you before.

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 17:25

Yeah it is a challenge thanks!

Ach it's a kindness to tell her she's doing it so badly she's embarrassing herself, I think Grin

As PPs have said, there's not necessarily even a connection between poverty and social housing eligibility and council housing ISN'T subsidised from taxation, so even her premise is all wrong Smile

Ashkey234 · 21/07/2017 17:27

Why is asking what you tip at the hairdressers caused so many nasty/bitchy ppl to come out of the woodwork..nothing better to do than be nasty to strangers.
I made a simple fact that after spending a daft amount on my hair I couldn't bring myself to tip when I had other things (carpeting) coming up
Why jump down my throat for that, you can't even explain how you feel without someone being nasty for no reason

OP lost my vote at 'should I of '

Sorry

SerfTerf · 21/07/2017 17:29

Don't be silly Ash. We're just giving you constructive feedback on your wind up methodology Wink

Ceto · 21/07/2017 17:30

Yes, I tip at least 10%.

And since when did extensions make your hair grow stronger? I thought they put more stress on it? Surely you need to get it cut short for that?
