Do you tip at hairdressers? I didn't and now I feel guilty

I've just had my hair done,hair extensions at the hairdressers,altogether £410 and I didn't tip.
Should I of ?
I'm moving in the next few weeks and as its a council house I need to buy all new carpets as its basically a empty shell so i need every penny I can get really.
Do you tip?
And if so how much?

No. I pay the price they charge me. If they want more, they should increase their prices.

No don't tip. Hairdressers tend to get some profit unless you are paying trade prices of course

They used to charge £360 so have increased by £50 and I just couldn't bring myself to pay anymore

No I don't usually tip , however if I needed every penny I could get for a new house I wouldn't be spending £400 odd quid at the hairdressers

If they're self employed they set their own prices and presumably build in a healthy profit. Their problem if not.

And if they're employed and aren't happy with their salary - again, their problem not mine.

I tip 10% at least (usually round it up to £15) and it benefits me in the long run as my hairdresser can always fit me in last minute, do my fringe if I pop in etc. But also I feel they deserve it - the cut is a reasonable cost for the quality and I always get half a bottle of Prosecco and a cupcake while I'm there! I love getting my hair done. Grin

If you can afford to part with £410 I don't see what difference a tip would make in the grand scheme of things. I would only do a tenner though, not 10%. I always find it really awkward though, sort of shove the cash at them in my way out 😬

I don't spend that in a year at the hairdressers, cut and blow dry is £22 and I always give him £3 as a tip go every 6 to 8 weeks and I think I'm be a bit of a spendthrift.

Tbh I don't know how hair extensions cost so much,I'm sure they must make at least 50% profit

This was a treat to myself ..normally I wouldn't dream about forking out for extensions but I haven't been well and it affected my hair and confidence.

Self employed beauty therapist here - I clear £30 to £60 an hour. I strongly discourage my clients from tipping, I usually tell them "I appreciate the gesture but I set my prices at a level I'm happy at and I don't expect a tip but thank you anyway - now go get yourself a nice cake/buy the kids some sweets/put it towards your holiday, etc".

If you've paid £410 I reckon she's made at least £200 out of you. No tip required.

We weren't given a home because of low income ..everyone can apply in my area regardless of how much you earn

£410 quid??? WTF is that what you'd pay for that sort of thing was it a days or was it twos work?.

This wasn't at a BBC hairdresser at all?.

Sez me , 12 quid for a very good gents cut here;?

I have done in the past but I go to a cheaper hairdressers now and their service is substandard so no... (my old hairdressers costs a fortune and it's in another city to where I live so that's why I switched)

I get that (not the fringe bit as I don't have one) without giving away £15 of my cash on top of what the service actually costs.

I read that post about you worrying about having to spend £700 on carpets for your new coucil house. I did feel sorry for you initially but it seems your priorities are a bit odd.

Regardless though, I have a trainee at my salon do highlights and cut for £25. I definitely tip her if I have the cash on me as I think it's fair for the price.

If I was paying for one of the established hairdressers it would cost around 4 times more so I probably wouldn't tip.
