Apparently the whole country is waiting to celebrate her birthday (according to ITV)
Well Dh certainly isn't!
He was a big fan when he was a lad, and went to see her in a pantomime.
Waiting at the stage door after the show for an autograph with other star struck youngsters, she came out and told them all to Piss Off and clear off home Shock
He said she was the most horrible, rude person and that he never watched her in anything again.
Which celebs have you met that didn't match up to the pedestal you had them on?

OP posts:
CaptainHammer · 14/07/2017 19:18

Lee Evans and Rhys Darby have both been lovely whenever I've met them.

Sad to hear Maggie Smith was rude. I imagine her as a fairly serious person but not rude.

Bitchinabonnet · 14/07/2017 19:19

Lulu - complete bitch . Went to see Michael McDonald with DH and as we were leavimg she was giving security staff the whole "Do you know who I am ?" routine . She was also VERY drunk .
Greg Davies - literally bumped into him at motorway services . He just laughed at me and said "Did you not see me ? Am I not big enough ?" (He's around 6ft7 !!!) (I fancy him !!)

Autofillcontact · 14/07/2017 19:19

Wow To Jodie Kidd and terry wogan! Lovely

FodieJoster · 14/07/2017 19:19

PoorYorick - that was so kind - and feminist - of Zoe Ball. She has just shot right up in my estimation.

bettycat81 · 14/07/2017 19:19

Met Joan Rivers at work once she was lovely.

Also met Tom Hanks when he was filming in the UK he too was very nice and came over to us and chatted for a while between takes.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 14/07/2017 19:20

I can also confirm Paul Daniel being really nice.
I served him when I used to work for Hobbycraft. He was very polite, asked lots of questions and wasn't at all rude when we didn't have exactly what he wanted. Very nice man.
Dawn French looked rather exhausted the day she came to my till. Didn't say very much, clearly just wanted to pay and get going. Fine by me.

CycleHire · 14/07/2017 19:21

My mum met Barbara Windsor at an event (so when she was 'working' I suppose rather than doing her shopping) and said she was absolutely lovely and kind to all the people who wanted to talk to her. Just to counter some of the other experiences.

Gizmo79 · 14/07/2017 19:21

Anyone who remembers Adam Faith?
He came into the KFC I was working in when I was a teen and he was absolutely lovely to all of the staff, did autographs and photos. This was just after his tv show Lovehurts. Lovely guy RIP.

We1shBird · 14/07/2017 19:21

Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee...lovely. Did an impromptu magic show for the kids at the hotel after breakfast.
Chris Tarrant...rude and obnoxious.
The guy who played Harold in Neighbours...absolutely lovely.

gingergenius · 14/07/2017 19:22

Kenneth Williams was lovely. Sylvester McCoy was a bit up himself and Linda Lusardi was a darling!

Timefortea99 · 14/07/2017 19:22

Una Stubbs is a gracious and lovely lady.

Nigel Havers - very self aware. And slim.

Babs W - I was eating in a restaurant in Marlybone and she swept in with some people. Got seated, and then clearly not happy, swept out again. Her Husband trotting after her.

Amanda Barrie - okay but LOUD and slightly barking.

Tom Baker - twinkle in his eye and bonkers!

Nick Heywood - back when he was a heartthrob - lovely, polite, smiley.

alpacawhacker · 14/07/2017 19:22

DH emailed Richard Hammond once about something, I forget what, not really thinking that he would reply but he did! He was pleasant and chatty and they corresponded for a while.

Sparklingbrook · 14/07/2017 19:22

When DS1 was younger he sent an SAE to Jamie Oliver for an autograph. To the address that said 'for autographs' at the time. Nothing. JO owes me a stamp.Angry

StylishDuck · 14/07/2017 19:23

I met Roger Black the athlete when I was in the audience of a kids TV show when I was about 12. He was really lovely and took time to chat to everyone and sign autographs. By contrast some guy that was on Eastenders at the time (can't remember his name) told us all to fuck off Angry

I've also met Alfie Boe at the stage door when he was in Les Miserables and he could not have been more charming. I've been a bit in love with him since.

Timefortea99 · 14/07/2017 19:25

Dave Grohl - lovely and chatty with everyone stuck in a queue with him at LA airport.

gingergenius · 14/07/2017 19:26

Kelvin Mackenzie was nice. He made me breakfast of mushrooms on toast. He peeled the mushrooms!! I was 11, and went to school with his daughter and had a sleepover!

NoraCharlesMartiniGlass · 14/07/2017 19:26

Keanu Reeves is charming, interesting and kind.

Bill Oddie was an absolute bastard.

CaveMum · 14/07/2017 19:27

No surprise but Prince Andrew is a knob. DH is in the RAF and while at Northolt (where a lot of the Royals/Politicians fly from) he witnessed PA bollock a young officer for not driving his Range Rover to the foot of the steps of the plane Hmm

Whilst in the same job he also met John Prescott who was flying out to a funeral of a foreign head of state (representing the British Government) when he realised he didn't have a black tie. One of DH's colleagues took his tie off and gave it to JP. A few weeks later he got a letter from JP, enclosing the tie, and inviting him to come to the Houses of Parliament for a private tour.

Pugfather · 14/07/2017 19:27

My partner had the misfortune of meeting Barbara Windsor he worked on airline check in she was very late and starting screaming as she was not aloud on the plane she even said the words quote but I'm a national treasure ! He said Gloria hunniford was vile the many time he met her but strangely camilla was very nice by all accounts

MidnightAura · 14/07/2017 19:27

I've met Jimmy Carr several times now. He is very charming. I was surprised he actually remembered me on one occasion.

Mark Owen I dealt with through work after he was caught cheating on his wife and he was very rude. Very pushy.

I probably shouldn't say it but Tara Palmer Tomkinson. Used the "Don't you know who I am?" card and reduced my colleague to tears.

Shane Filan was very rude when I met him once, he gave me the filthiest look when I asked him if he wouldn't mind standing at an album signing for a picture with my friend as she has a weak spine and bending over/crouching as the other fans were doing would have caused her too much pain. I had met him once before that separately and he was very stand offish then too.

Peter Capaldi on the other hand is lovely. Genuinely nice man who actually bothered to hold a conversation with fans and apologised he couldn't spend more time with them. I'm not a Dr Who fan but he was a nice man to have a conversation with. He gave me a big cuddle which my DH was jealous of lol (I don't know what aftershave he uses but its amazing!)

1stTimeMama · 14/07/2017 19:29

Sir Steve Redgrave and Louis Smith. Arseholes, the pair of them.

InfiniteSheldon · 14/07/2017 19:29

I've met Zoe Ball she's absolutely lovely

gingergenius · 14/07/2017 19:29

Midnight - I LOVE Peter Capaldi! So glad he's a goodie!!!

Timefortea99 · 14/07/2017 19:30

Bill Oddie is well known for being a curmudgeon. There is a famous clip of him being interviewed via a link by Bill Turnbull on BBC Breakfast. Arsey does not begin to describe it. However he has mental health issues, and has had massive depressive episodes, so that might be a mitigating factor.

Pugfather · 14/07/2017 19:32

Kate bush and her father were very sweet and signed autographs when I as a kid dropped by with flowers (family knew them in a distant way) she even sent me a Christmas card that year I was one happy 15 year old
