Apparently the whole country is waiting to celebrate her birthday (according to ITV)
Well Dh certainly isn't!
He was a big fan when he was a lad, and went to see her in a pantomime.
Waiting at the stage door after the show for an autograph with other star struck youngsters, she came out and told them all to Piss Off and clear off home Shock
He said she was the most horrible, rude person and that he never watched her in anything again.
Which celebs have you met that didn't match up to the pedestal you had them on?

I missed the negative Ben Fogle comment PoochSmooch, was there just one? I do think that sometimes on this type of threads it could be just a rare bad day for the celebrity due to whatever was going on in their lives or just at the time.

Think it can work the other way round too. Many lovely and nice reports from a brief meeting are just the celebrity's persona. (Must confess to thinking this is possible if the celebrity is described as 'charming' - cynical git that I am.)

youarenotkiddingme · 15/07/2017 07:59

Justin Fletcher aka Mr Tumble isn't the friendly kid loving person his TV persona makes out.

Not a nasty twat just not as gentle as you'd expect.

I was having lunch in a pub with my teenage DS and DD mid cancer treatment when they spotted Tinchy Strider, they were looking over waiting for him to finish eating so they could speak to him when he got up and came over to our table. He asked me how I was and wished me a good recovery, had selfies with the kids and was utterly gorgeous. I had never even heard of him. When we asked for the bill he had paid it! Simple kindness.

youarenotkiddingme · 15/07/2017 08:01

Oh and Joe Absolum (sp?) is absolutely lovely - or was in his early 20's!. Very down to earth and actually hated all the attention young girls gave him.

Littlecaf · 15/07/2017 08:01

The shop where I worked as a teenager had a few celeb followers, so most weeks was 'guess who's been in this week'.

The three I remember the most were Paul Weller (quiet, polite, my boss wet her knickers as she was a massive fan, saw him on the CCTV as he came in and said 'you take this one', she huffed, then came back with a big grin when she was done), Griff Rhys Jones, very polite, with his kids/niece/newphew who were being demanding and he was calm and normal, and Eddie Izzard who came in over two consecutive Saturdays.....the first in leather mini skirt, white shirt & heels, and the second in Jeans & tshirt. He looked better & more at home in the skirt.

Jim Davidson is an absolute cunt.

Gallagher brothers one lovely one not (leave you to work that out).

Madge from neighbours - lovely.

Matthew Kelly - lovely.

Norky1975 · 15/07/2017 08:05

Waiting for someone who's met Katie Price!

Edsheeranalbumparty · 15/07/2017 08:16

Jim Davidson is an absolute cunt.

What a surprise 😂

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 15/07/2017 08:17

My sister I heard Michael Palin at a book reading. My sister then met him afterwards and said he was lovely and charming.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 15/07/2017 08:20

My DH saw Robson Green on the train and he was very kind and funny to and elderly couple who got talking to him.

thegreylady · 15/07/2017 08:41

I met the poet Simon Armitage on a train once. We were sitting opposite one another and chatted all the way to London. He is a lovely man.

YouTheCat · 15/07/2017 08:48

I met Jacqueline Wilson at the opening of Seven Stories in Newcastle and she was absolutely lovely.

originalbiglymavis · 15/07/2017 08:52

Someone asked about Joanna Lumley?

Class, sophistication and grace all in one. Absolutely lovely and generous (time and money).

Gimboid · 15/07/2017 08:57

At a uni ball many moons ago Keith Flint (Prodigy) pulled me up on stage to dance with him. He was as nutty as you'd imagine. Debbie Mc Gee used to have her nails done at my local salon, lovely lady. I used to train (highboard diving) at the same place as Jason Statham, he was a nice guy, still looks the same as he did back then.

Not surprised to hear that Justin Timberlake is unpleasant. I went to see him just at the time Britney was having her rough time and it was the day the pictures of her being taken out of her house on a stretcher looking very distressed were in the press. I was a big Britney fan. He sang Cry Me A River and then said 'did everybody see the news today? Crazy b*tch' and then proceeded to sing a bit of Maybe she's crazy from that Gnarles Barkley song.

Never liked him much after that. No empathy at all.

Nettletheelf · 15/07/2017 09:00

I'm a bit let down by this thread. I thought it would be all about celebrities being arses, when in fact it is at least 50% stories about people being 'absolutely lovely'. I feel cheated. I want the dirt.

I really laughed at the previous poster who almost said, "doesn't Billie let you watch porn at home?" to Laurence Fox, who was on his laptop in a pub. You really should have said it. It's genius.

Yeswecankle · 15/07/2017 09:01

There's often a big difference between how celebs are when they are with the public and their admirers, and when they are truly off duty (which is fair enough really). But I can assure you that off duty Ben Fogle was incredibly unpleasant in my experience.

BoysofMelody · 15/07/2017 09:03

Waiting for someone who's met Katie Price

A close friend grew up in Brighton and she is the same age as Katie Price, and when Katie Price became famous for page 3 was known for acting the big shot all over the city.

During this first flush of fame, she tried to push my friend out of he way in a taxi queue after a night out. My friend squared up to her and Katie Price thought about it and decided she didn't fancy her chances in a square go with my friend, who I've seen properly chin blokes who've been sleazy with her.

The rest of the taxi queue cheered my friend as Katie Price scuttled to the back.

Diamondlife · 15/07/2017 09:11

It must get really exhausting being nice all the time through. These people are just like us with good days and bad days. Just because they're on the telly doesn't mean they owe you anything. No need for downright rudeness, but I'm sure I'd just walk past people after 20 years of having 'sign this' shoved in my face.

Whileweareonthesubject · 15/07/2017 09:21

Interesting to read other people's impressions of some 'celebrities ' . I do wonder if some of them have a different persona when they are working or in public. There's one who's been mentioned here several times as a lovely person who was anything but lovely to dh. Dh worked for a company used by said person and five minutes before closing, on a Friday, the celeb phoned demanding a particular service. Dh took the call, checked what was required a d explained that the earliest the requested service could be arranged would be on the Tuesday because customer signatures were required. He offered to fax forms to celeb and to wait for them to be faxed back in order to get the ball rolling that night so keep to his promise. That wasn't good enough and celeb demanded it was rushed through there and then. Do explained again that he was unable to get it done any sooner. He faxed the forms over. Next thing, a phone call comes in from Chief exec instructing dh to do whatever was needed to get the service sorted that day. He then had to contact various other departments making them stay as they had a part to play. Dh finally left work 3 hours later, not a word of thanks from celeb, no overtime paid and he missed a family celebration for a significant birthday. He now turns TV off whenever the celeb appears.

Before Mary Berry was famous, she made videos to showcase cooking techniques for people who had Agas ( ovens). Crew who made the videos said she was lovely, very genuine and kind.

My dm lives in the teeny, tiny village where Alan Rickmans funeral was held. All the funeral guests arrived by boat (it's a village on a river). Somehow the press had found out where the funeral was and about 20 cars turned up in the village with photographers. This blocked up the entire village and meant the funeral car couldn't get to the church. My dm went absolutely ballistic and her and her WI group chased the photographers out of town by threatening to tow all their cars into the river (they've done it before).

Somehow some photographers still managed to take some photos but Jennifer Saunders spoke to my dm afterwards and thanked her really genuinely. JS told my it was like an episode of Jam and Jerusalem made into real life.

BattleaxeGalactica · 15/07/2017 09:38

Dara O'Briain is apparently lovely. DS saw his show at uni and he asked ds and friends to have a tiny cameo on one of the spin offs for 'The Apprentice'. They all went (some weeks later) and he remembered them and was charming.

I have loved Michael Crawford since he sent me a handwritten letter when I wrote asking for his autograph as a child. Ian Lavender otoh couldn't even be bothered to answer. He has been on my 'arse' list ever since.

AntiopeofThemyscira · 15/07/2017 09:47

Ralph Fiennes was patient and smiley when my dog ran under his table outside a restaurant. It took a few seconds to haul him out as he seemed to want to stay right there by Ralph's feet.

Timothy Dalton was absolutely lovely and interacted and did silly voices to my baby DD as ex stood holding her waiting to be served in Sainsbury's.

Tom Parker Bowles is a very nice man. I've met him twice and he was the same both times, helped me carry my bug up a steep flight of stairs on the tube and then we had a good chat about dogs in my local park.

AnneSansTete · 15/07/2017 09:52

Sorry, I didn't include my shitty story. Caroline Quentin was filming a documentary, again in DM's village. She was walking up garden path to my dm's house when my dm walked out and asked if she was alright, did she need anything (my dm is like Mrs Doyle for forcing tea on people). CQ just turned to her crew and laughingly sad 'well, we'll have to shoot that again now won't we.' My dm was ushered out of the way of her own fuckng house so CQ could be filmed walking up her garden path! It may have been a breakdown in communication and it was just assumed dm had given permission. Whatever it was my dm now holds a deadly grudge against CQ.
