Apparently the whole country is waiting to celebrate her birthday (according to ITV)
Well Dh certainly isn't!
He was a big fan when he was a lad, and went to see her in a pantomime.
Waiting at the stage door after the show for an autograph with other star struck youngsters, she came out and told them all to Piss Off and clear off home Shock
He said she was the most horrible, rude person and that he never watched her in anything again.
Which celebs have you met that didn't match up to the pedestal you had them on?

I have to stick up for Dawn French who I've only ever found absolutely polite, charming and generous. She's very quiet but she's never ever been rude.

chirpyburbycheapsheep · 15/07/2017 00:05

Thanks for the RK story uppity. Was worth all the waiting and refreshing!

cuirderussie · 15/07/2017 00:06

Frazzled Bill Clinton "short". he is 6 feet 4 inches (I met him) are you sure that was him? Smile

Chestervase1 · 15/07/2017 00:06

Paul Martin of "Flog it" always appeared so affable and genial, but I was at an auction once and he literally switched it on the minute he got the signal that the camera was on him. It was like watching 2 different people. Another time bumped into Hugh Grant in St James's literally just DH, me and Hugh Grant no one else around. My husband just said Good Morning more in shock and I can safely say he was the most arrogant, up himself arsehole I have ever encountered. Another one who is nothing like the characters he portrays. Elizabeth Hurley, who we met years ago when she was a punk rocker, before the safety pin dress, was lovely.

PlymouthMaid1 · 15/07/2017 00:07

From family anecdotes, I can ditto the niceness of Mo mowlam and the rudeness of Suzi Quattro. A!so daughter told me that noel fielding was lovely and chatty but Alan Carr was too busy being famous to say hello.

Chestervase1 · 15/07/2017 00:08

I also like Victoria Beckham who was lovely and friendly and smiley to my son in a restaurant.

BoysofMelody · 15/07/2017 00:10

Anyone who remembers Adam Faith?

Yes, he had the best ever last words ...

"Channel 5 is all shit, isn't it? Christ, the crap they put on there. It's a waste of space"

and then he died. I have to say I heartily agree with him, but wouldn't want it to be my parting address to the world.

Patriciathestripper1 · 15/07/2017 00:11

Theses are all great 😂 Love love love the Ronan Keating one 🤣

OP posts:
Thisarmingman · 15/07/2017 00:16

That Ronan Keating story is brilliant! Life certainly is a roller coaster for you isn't it pal? There you are one minute acting the big hard thug to a teenage girl, and there you are the next getting lamped by her mum.

Chestervase1 · 15/07/2017 00:18

Adam Faith was lovely I used to see him all the time he was really friendly and fun.

WinnieTheWitch50 · 15/07/2017 00:23

The RK story is legend Grin

HelloPossums · 15/07/2017 00:24

Mary Berry, when properly 'off duty' really isn't very nice at all...

Oh no, Yeswecankle :( could you go into any more detail? That's a shame :(

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 15/07/2017 00:46

Sean Connery is lovely to waiting staff.
Norman Cook/Fatboy Slim is charming to over-excited clubbers who have managed to blag their way into VIP.
Nicola Sturgeon is utterly, utterly charming, warm and patient with everyone she meets.
Justin Timberlake is a cunt.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 15/07/2017 00:47

Oh and Diane Louise Jordan is an absolute delight - warm, friendly and one of those people who just naturally builds other people up.

VelvetSpoon · 15/07/2017 00:53

I met Bradley Walsh many years ago (before Corrie and the Chase so he was a lot less famous) at a charity event and he was lovely. I had my DS with me who was just a baby, and he asked for a cuddle and said he loved babies, was very chatty and friendly.

I've not met him (sadly!) but have been told David Tennant is fab and will always make time for fans.

Friends know Lawrence Dallaglio and always said he was the nicest bloke.

VB is nicer than she seems and very bright. Unlike her husband...

Miriam Margolyes is an awful person apparently, according to friends who have met her and loathed her.

My dad used to hang out in a crowd with Oliver Reed and others. He said he was a really lovely bloke, but incredibly shy so would drink and drink, because it gave him confidence to entertain people. Sad really.

salsmum · 15/07/2017 01:05

Katie Price was doing a book signing and my DD wanted to go ...she waited patiently at the front of the queue while KP was behind screens when she was finally ready my daughter carefully manoeuvred her electric wheelchair to go forward...from behind the screens KP shouted in an exasperated voice 'I'm waiting'. Some ladies from Lush had a huge goodie bag for KP which they wanted to give to her and when they gave it to her and asked her for her autograph she declared 'only if you buy my book' before, of course accepting their lovely goodie bag filled to the brim Shock my DD has not mentioned KP since!

BadLad · 15/07/2017 01:16

The Red Dwarf main actors are all really nice (not sure about Craig Charles - he wasn't there so I can't say). I saw them on the bullet train in Japan after a Red Dwarf convention, going back to Tokyo, and they all posed for selfies, chatted for ages and signed shitloads of stuff.

dgm was an unusual woman
went from being a "bomb girl" to something of a beatnik.
one of her school friends was the mom of mary travers(peter, paul and mary-puff the magic dragon)
i was 5 or 6 when i got called to gm house mary and her mom were there.she sang the song to me(i had been singing it constantly for weeks)
gave me an autographed copy of the 45 and the lp it came off of.
just called my sis the vinyl is still in the record collection back home.
gm and i were out to dinner one day and she introduced me to
arlo guthrie he was so coolGrin i was about 13.and alices resturaunt had been out for awhile.thats when i started to realize gm was something different from everyone elses.

TizzyDongue · 15/07/2017 02:50

Disappoint to hear about Maggie Smith, but I'm going to remain hopeful it was an off moment for her!!

I don't think I've met a celebrity - though I saw Dara O'Brien a while ago, in a shopping centre; he was with his daughter and some guy suddenly ran over shouting 'Dara, Dara!!' Pretty much acousting Dara,. Dara was quite reasonable and simple engaged with him.

Evewasinnocent · 15/07/2017 03:17

DH meets loads of celebs in his work - can't think of any really famous ones who he said were anything other than polite other than is it JayZ (married to Beyoncé?) - he's also hasn't heard of a lot of them ! He says for most part the minor celebs are the worst (think James Martin). One he does rave about (and I don't think has been mentioned) as being a very fine human is Stephen Fry.
DS is a performer and confirms Stuart Lee, Tim Key, Mckensie Crook & Toby Jones are also all lovely!

e1y1 · 15/07/2017 04:07

Another one here to say Peter Kay, immediate family member has a daily connection with him - not a glowing review of him.

Paul O'Grady doesn't surprise me as, as mentioned by PP - he was besties with Cilla - and that woman was vile (she was British Airways most hated customer by the Air Crew).

I'm so glad Ricky Gervais is lovely, as he is a massive advocate of animal rights (something close to me), so I didn't want that image destroying. Granted I don't like nearly all of his TV work (except idiot abroad).

I too would love to know how Joanna Lumley is - not RTFT yet.

ExpatinBah · 15/07/2017 04:25

I met, by chance, in London - Sir David Attenborough. A wonderful and very charming man.

e1y1 · 15/07/2017 04:51

So THRILLED that Joanna Lumley is lovely, love everything she has ever done (even the Fairy Detergent adverts Grin).

Not surprised, but my biggest take away from thread is that Bruce Forsyth is an arse.

As much as I love Mary Berry, I didn't imagine her to be nice at all, so no surprises.

TizzyDongue · 15/07/2017 04:54

I don't think i could cope if I heard David Attenborough wasn't nice!
