Apparently the whole country is waiting to celebrate her birthday (according to ITV)
Well Dh certainly isn't!
He was a big fan when he was a lad, and went to see her in a pantomime.
Waiting at the stage door after the show for an autograph with other star struck youngsters, she came out and told them all to Piss Off and clear off home Shock
He said she was the most horrible, rude person and that he never watched her in anything again.
Which celebs have you met that didn't match up to the pedestal you had them on?

Bruce Forsyth - apparently his TV niceness is for the audience only - vile otherwise

delftblue · 14/07/2017 23:13

So so disappointed to think of Victoria Wood not being nice. She always seemed so lovely. I was gutted when she died.

BarbedBloom · 14/07/2017 23:15

Billy Connolly was absolutely lovely to me. I met him in a book shop and we chatted for about half an hour while he waited for his wife. It sounds like I was lucky there.

Met Bill Bailey briefly and he was very polite and chatty and held the door for me when I left.

A friend of mine met Jared Leto and said he was an utter tosser, barging her out of the way and asking his management in earshot why people like her were let in. Charming.

Another friend met the boys from McFly and had a few drinks with them and said they were sweethearts.

A few that a lot won't have heard of. Oh and I had a twitter DM conversation for a while with the lead singer from the Black Veil Brides, who was really lovely. Also chatted via email with the guy who played Graverobber in Repo The Genetic Opera.

Lastly I once snogged a famous footballer in a club when I was younger. Had no idea who he was until a few people came up and told me after. I hate football so wasn't hugely impressed at the time. My brother sulked for ages that I didn't make him sign an autograph

rachlooneytune · 14/07/2017 23:17

Ronan keating from boyzone was horrible. Was at a children in need concert a million years ago at the stage door and
all the performers smiled and waved on their way in( some gave autographs) he just put his head down and ignored? Hated him after that.

Met ray Romano from everybody loves Raymond ( I was a child and didn't watch the show but remember him being lovely and posed for pics)

My friend worked in a fancy hotel. Says Chris Tarrant was a cock. Really rude to staff in fact one refused to go back and wait his table he was that bad. But management wouldn't make him leave cos of who he was?!

She met Simon Cowell there and said he was very nice and polite. Also met Victoria beckham who she said was so humble and nice.

Ryan Thomas ( from Corrie) was very aggressive towards me when I was working in a nightclub (about 10yrs ago) really wanted to go to the sun with a story about what he did after hours ( he was still with Tina O'Brien at the time) but I didn't ☹️

DorisMcSweeney · 14/07/2017 23:20

I met Marcel Marceau once. Didn't say a word. Ignorant bastard

Tangofandango · 14/07/2017 23:21

I went to a Bryan Adams concert in Southampton last week. I was standing by the fenced-off VIP area. Matt le Tissier (local legend known as 'le God') was in the VIP area. All evening people were calling to him or asking security to ask if he would have a photo taken with them. He happily went to everyone who asked and had photos taken, smiling and looking as though it had made HIS night that they wanted to be pictured with them. Lovely man.

Catherine Ryan is also lovely. Chatted to everyone who waited to see her after her show. Spent about 20 minutes talking to my pregnant daughter about the forthcoming birth. She seemed really interested in what everyone had to say.

Shenanagins · 14/07/2017 23:22

doris 😂

cardibach · 14/07/2017 23:22

I'm not sure why you all think that actors and singers should be lovely to you after their night's work. Have a read of this

thenightsky · 14/07/2017 23:24

LadyFairfaxSake I can confirm that Guy Martin is what you see... a top bloke with no airs or graces. He's just a local diesel fitter round here.

Areyourevising · 14/07/2017 23:25

Barbara Windsor is very rude.

Gordon Ramsay and Rick Stein are lovely and were both lovely to my DS who is a chef just starting out.

Thisarmingman · 14/07/2017 23:27

Catgirl a mate of mine shagged Brett Anderson once. You missed out girl (apparently).

Miriam Margoyles was really lovely. Very warm and funny.

Jimmy Carr was an arrogant prick.

Martin Amis is surprisingly polite.

Eddierussett · 14/07/2017 23:31

Anton Lesser is lovely. Very polite and slightly retiring. I met him at a cast and crew event for a production I had been peripherally involved in but hadn't really met anyone else so was on my own. He also seemed slightly on the fringes of the main party and talked to me for quite a while despite not having a clue who I was!

DorisMcSweeney · 14/07/2017 23:31

I went out drinking with Jacob Rees Mogg - swears like a docker, we were thrown out of the pub as he was getting a bit punchy. Last I saw of him he was vomiting on his brogues

honeylulu · 14/07/2017 23:34

Actress friend said Bill Oddie was horrible.

I occasionally see Melinda Messenger out and about (she lives near me). My brain always registers I recognise her and I always say hello before realising it doubt actually know her. She always smiles and says hello back. Very very glam and very slim.

Mentioned on another thread my H used to work in record shop with Pete Burns. Apparently he was nasty and everyone was a bit scared of him but he was also very witty and charismatic.

Met Skin from Skunk Anansie backstage at a festival. She always seems scary in her stage persona but she was absolutely lovely, warm and generous.

Met Keith Vaz through work. Oily and smarmy.

Knew someone who worked in a hotel where Jimmy Nail stayed for work. Staff were given a memorable ordering them to "refrain from looking directly at Mr Nail during his visit".

thenightsky · 14/07/2017 23:34

DH met Mo Molam twice... she sticks in his mind as the most influential and gracious politician ever (he's met a lot). He actually shed a tear when she died. Sad

thenightsky · 14/07/2017 23:37

My mum and dad's neighbour was Richard Whiteley... He came to their golden wedding/street party do. He did not allow photos and spoke to my cleavage a lot Hmm

Oldbutstillgotit · 14/07/2017 23:39

My DB has worked with Gabby Logan and says she is a nightmare. I was once a contestant on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire and found Chris Tarrant to be a boorish arse hole. Friend found herself sitting near Sting and his wife on flight. He was nice she was a cow.

Oldbutstillgotit · 14/07/2017 23:41

Alex Salmond is horrible

Nightshirt · 14/07/2017 23:41

*I work with celebs on an almost daily basis.

*There are only three who have been vile (out of thousands and thousands).

Marti Pellow
Victoria Wood*

Victoria Wood - oh no :(

ChristinaParsons · 14/07/2017 23:43

The duchess of York popped into our RDA marquee and stayed for ages at Windsor horse show. She was beyond lovely. Even when one of our members came in through the door backwards, barged into her nearly dropped the cakes she was carrying and shouted at her for being in the way! The princess royal our patron never showed her face

uppityupupup · 14/07/2017 23:44

OK searched and found @whitershadeofpale 's RK story

I went to a Gary Barlow concert (no judging) at the Royal Albert Hall in 1997.

Afterwards my mum said we could wait outside to see if I could get an autograph, it appears there was a bit of a get together inside and a few pop stars of the time came out like 911 (one of which was inviting me back to his- I looked older but, still) and someone no one will remember called Connor Reeves who was lovely.

Everyone has had a drink but it seemed pretty tame.

Then Boyzone came out (minus Mikey) and had probably drunk a bit more, Stephen Gately couldn't stand or really talk and was almost carried to the car.

I asked politely for an autograph (there was a max of 10 people waiting) and they went mental shouting why should they? I wasn't at their concert and they weren't getting any money or anything from it.

I was shocked and just said nothing, and my mum said to just ignore them they were just being silly because they'd had a few drinks.

They then all got into the car / people carrier.

After 5 mins or so the window rolls down and RK calls over to me and says they're sorry, it's just a bit late and they were wrong, come over and they'll sign my programme.

I went over and had to lean into the window to hand my book to him at which point whilst cackling he presses the button to shut the window on my head.

At which point my mum walked over, made sure I was ok, opened the door and punched him straight in the face.

I've never been prouder to be her daughter

Bahhhhhumbug · 14/07/2017 23:47

Rachlooneytune my dd worked in a big hotel in Blackpool after leaving school and quite a lot of stars stayed there who were doing shows etc. She accidentally ended up in a lift complete with her cleaning trolley ( she cleaned the rooms) with a visibly horrified Ronan Keating and his minder. She said he made her feel like some kind of sub human just for being a cleaner and having audacity to be in same lift as him. His minder stopped the lift so she could get out even though it wasn't her floor. She was so furious she looked at him and said 'Shumthing' to say Ronan' in reference to how he pronounces 'something' in the opening line of 'When the going gets tough'. He complained to the management but my dd beat him to it and resigned as was leaving soon anyway.

Yeswecankle · 14/07/2017 23:54

Mary Berry, when properly 'off duty' really isn't very nice at all...

Linnet · 14/07/2017 23:56

Tony Robinson was in my husbands place of work, he says he was extremely rude.

Ashley Judd was also in my husbands place of work, he says she was very nice.

My friends daughter in law worked with Kirstie Allsopp once, she was really rude too.

GoEasyPudding · 14/07/2017 23:58

That is the most awesome story ever. RK put in his place!
I had a lovely long chat with Billy Connelly, when I served him in a shop, late 90's. He was on tour, appearing that evening locally. He was lovely and charming. It really made my day. I still remember everything he told me about his friends and family.
