To expect to leave my dd's pooey nappy at friend's house?

Lalunya85 · 10/07/2017 22:34

A while ago when DD was about 10 weeks old we went to see friends at their house for the day. They have two dds but they are older (11 and 4 at the time so out of nappies).

Our DD did a poo and we changed her St friend's house and put the dirty nappy in a nappy bag. I asked my friend's partner who was near me at the time what to do with the dirty nappy. She sort of laughed and said: "you're not going to leave that at My house!"

At first I thought this was a joke. It wasn't. Then I assumed she must mean to take it to the bin outside, but that wasn't what she meant either.

So we had to take the nappy home with us in the car. It was a 3 hour drive, if that makes a difference.

Obviously we got rid of the nappy at the first public bin that we saw, but aibu to think this is a really strange and unusual attitude?

Or am I so lost in baby parent world that I can't see how unreasonable it would be of me to expect my friend to throw my baby's nappy in her bin??

Give me your verdict. Smile

Yanbu. How weird!

2littlemoos · 10/07/2017 22:36

YANBU! How silly!

Floggingmolly · 10/07/2017 22:37

It wasn't a 3 hour drive to the nearest public bin, was it?

choochooo · 10/07/2017 22:37

Yup that's weird. YANBU

I would never put nappy bag in bathroom or kitchen bin, I'd do what you did and ask where it's ok to dispose of it, even if it means I go out to their wheelie bin.

To make you take it home is odd.

lemureyes · 10/07/2017 22:37

Very weird!

isupposeitsverynice · 10/07/2017 22:37

Haha that is really, really weird of your friend, yanbu

ComputerUserNotTrained · 10/07/2017 22:38

Unless I was visiting friends with babies of their own, I'd have taken it with me. I think I was lucky though as I usually managed to get most of the poo from ds's nappies into the loo, so what ended up in the bin wasn't quite so noxious.

JemDoughnut · 10/07/2017 22:38

YANBU. Currently childless but we have friends with small children and I'm fine with their nappies being thrown in my bin (I'll likely empty the bin that day so it's not sat there for long, but it's only a two minute job, not exactly an issue or inconvenience).

Even if she didn't want it indoors, having a problem with it going in the outdoor bin seems ridiculous.

kierenthecommunity · 10/07/2017 22:38

I think it you decanted the poo toilet-wards and the nappy was bagged, then lobbed straight into an outside bin, YANBU

if they lived in a flat or something and had to have it festering, shit filled, in their kitchen bin, I'd see her point

shoofly · 10/07/2017 22:39

Very odd. Wrapped nappy in outside bin, wouldn't think anything of it.

TrickyKid · 10/07/2017 22:39

Very weird but I would've just put it in their outside bin anyway. Wouldn't cross my mind to ask if it was ok.

Vanillamanilla1 · 10/07/2017 22:39

I would t expect them to take it home that's weird
Id expect them to out it in my bin

Bert2e · 10/07/2017 22:40

I wouldn't have it I'm my bin either - your shirt, your bonus I'm afraid. I didn't put disposable nappies in my bingo (used cloth) so I don't want yours in there thank you.

MeanAger · 10/07/2017 22:41

You don't leave shit in anyone's house. (What you do in your own is up to you!) I'm surprised you expected to! outside bin always! Not sure why you objected to having it in your car for 3 hours when you were happy to leave it in her house!

Lalunya85 · 10/07/2017 22:42

flogging Grin no, we didn't drive around with it in our car for three hours... Grin

It's a house, ground floor, private wheelie bin etc. I'd always ask what to do with the nappy but usually people tell me where to put it rather than asking me to take it home with me.

Thanks for all your replies!

I tend to leave them with my bag near the front door ready to take away and friends will often then volunteer their bin.

DeadGood · 10/07/2017 22:43

Both the woman in the OP and Bert2e are unreasonable. It's a bin for christs sake

Lalunya85 · 10/07/2017 22:43

mean I asked them where to put it and would have been perfectly happy to take it to the bin outside!

Odd and bad hosting form. I'd have just asked her where her wheelie bin was, if it wasn't visible.

MeanAger · 10/07/2017 22:44

Your thread title says you expected to leave it at her house.

Topseyt · 10/07/2017 22:45

How ridiculous of her. A wrapped nappy could have gone into the appropriate household waste outdoor bin.

I take it that her children never had pooey nappies.

londonista · 10/07/2017 22:47

My 2 have been out of nappies for quite some time but i seem to recall that the shitty nappies at 10 weeks old didn't smell too vile. Once they start eating proper food then they can really fill a nappy good and proper, and they hum to high heaven. Esp on a warm day. Maybe that's what your pal was thinking? In your shoes I'd probably not have asked and just taken it and tossed in nearest public bin when I left. But equally if I have someone here with a baby I say it's fine to just put in the bin then when they're gone I triple bag that fucker and put it on main bin outside.

Mamabear14 · 10/07/2017 22:47

In nappy sack, in main bin in kitchen. It's emptied a lot. I can't get worked up about it, it's a nappy ffs.

BasketOfDeplorables · 10/07/2017 22:47

At only 10 weeks it's just the inoffensive milky stuff, so not even like proper poo. It's very odd behaviour. Even if you're that precious about your wheelie bin, imagine being so vocal about it. I hope she used to carry used nappies home with her!

I personally don't like having waste hanging around so have small bins in the kitchen and bathroom, which are emptied pretty much daily. I've got the pregnancy super nose at the moment and I find food waste worse than nappies.

kierenthecommunity · 10/07/2017 22:48

I tend to leave them with my bag near the front door ready to take away

I once did this and forgot, and left it on my friend's doorstep. oops. Grin
