I'll start by saying I am absolutely furious. So bear with angry spelling and grammar.

We are incredibly lucky and live on a marina on a river. It's very beautiful. On the river are temporary moorings for riverboats. This is lovely. Some people have unofficial 'permanent' moorings and have made their gardens pretty and mow the grass. This is nice.

3 weeks ago a shiny new boat showed up directly opposite our house. It's a lovely boat, nice to see out of the window.

Yesterday THEY PUT UP A THREE PANEL OVER SIX FOOT FUCKING FENCE. See pic.

Would I be unreasonable to burn that fucker to the ground and also put a hole in his stupid boat?

It's still there. Even though I had a lovely dream about holes being kicked in it in the night.

You can find out who owns any bit of land at the land registry. For awkward bits of land that have no physical address there is a map search function here - put in your own address to get to the right bit of map then highlight the bit of land between the end of your house and the river bank.

AnnPerkins · 26/06/2017 08:20

How's it staying up? Has he set the posts in concrete? That can't be allowed on a riverbank can it?!

And surely it will rot away in no time at all?

It's a naff bloody fence anyway. Our neighbours have just erected the same panels and, horrifyingly, DH is covering them.

Mumsnut · 26/06/2017 08:39

Could you play loud music at the end of your garden till he comes to heel?

UrsulaPandress · 26/06/2017 08:50

I am so place marking.

HemanOrSheRa · 26/06/2017 08:56

What sort of weirdo does this Confused? Why? What are they doing behind the fence? How close is it to the picnic bench and who owns that?

AnnPerkins · 26/06/2017 09:35

*coveting. IPhone doesn't do biblical-speak evidently.

TheLambShankRedemption · 26/06/2017 09:46

Wavy fences are hideous no matter where they are, hence YANBU whatsoever.

BlackeyedSusan · 26/06/2017 10:37

I have seen worse fence panels. around my mothers garden but they are completely wrong here.

PreppedForDiagrams · 26/06/2017 10:42

Planning complaints form fulled in. I'll keep you posted.

If it's not a permanent structure, then it's hardly any different to putting up a windbreak for privacy. Wooden panels no matter how tweely wavey must surely be better than some garishly striped bit of nylon.

I have done you a diagram Grin

Hmm what is drawing him to that area - right there?

Collaborate · 26/06/2017 12:45

It is definitely in breach of planning control.

  1. If you live in a house you have automatic planning consent to erect a fence up to 2m high (1m if against a highway). AFAIK this will not apply to a mooring.
  1. Contrary to what was posted up-thread, anyone can apply for PP without owning the land.
Seeline · 26/06/2017 12:49

Fences, walls etc come under 'Minor Operations', not 'Development within the curtilage of a dwellinghouse' so the permitted development rights apply anywhere.
However, the 2m rule would still apply.

DrSpin · 26/06/2017 12:56

Do you know anyone with a dog that needs to be taken out to wee a lot?

I stand corrected!

Your outlook is amazing compared to mine. Fancy some north London concrete instead?

Chloe84 · 26/06/2017 15:10

Yes, right on the bank of the river fanny

Where is this river, sorry?

Ifailed · 26/06/2017 15:23

Not according to your map. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make - do you expect to have a say in any fencing within eyesight of your property?

It'd annoy me too, OP.

Keep us updated!

clairethewitch70 · 26/06/2017 16:06

Have you looked over the fence?

trulybadlydeeply · 26/06/2017 16:13

Heman What are they doing behind the fence?

Wanking, I'm guessing from the thread title... beats paying for a bit of Ronseal.
