FENCEWANKER

I'll start by saying I am absolutely furious. So bear with angry spelling and grammar.

We are incredibly lucky and live on a marina on a river. It's very beautiful. On the river are temporary moorings for riverboats. This is lovely. Some people have unofficial 'permanent' moorings and have made their gardens pretty and mow the grass. This is nice.

3 weeks ago a shiny new boat showed up directly opposite our house. It's a lovely boat, nice to see out of the window.

Yesterday THEY PUT UP A THREE PANEL OVER SIX FOOT FUCKING FENCE. See pic.

Would I be unreasonable to burn that fucker to the ground and also put a hole in his stupid boat?

I'd be more concerned about river rats TBH.

It doesn't look too bad to me. I thought the pics were going to show some monstrosity.

But I don't live there.

OP have your neighbours said anything about this. It is not just your problem is it.

RaspberryBeretHoopla · 25/06/2017 20:06

I was really worried that your DC had seen a man wanking through the fence.

This is norty as well. They are wanky neighbours. That wood looks highly flammable.

FUCK OFF DAILY MAIL.

PreppedForDiagrams · 25/06/2017 20:10

Well. I was outside glaring staring crossly looking at the fence and AngryBoatMan (no idea what wrong with him, he's always a miserable fucker) walked by and asked me 'what my problem' was. I said 'That fence. It's bloody awful.' and he told me they paid for the mooring so they can do what they like (I am not convinced by this argument). Apparently they've paid for the river rand I pay fuck all for it. I pointed out politely that if nothing else it was rather selfish. So I should complain then and see how far that gets me. Oh I SHALL.

*AngryBoatMan does not own boat or fence he lives further down

Fencewanker stays mostly behind his fence. Smartish retired looking chap.

FineSally · 25/06/2017 20:12

ah, I missed the bit about them not owning the land. So who does own it?

scottishdiem · 25/06/2017 20:12

Well in no way would I be anywhere near as angry as you are. So perhaps you need to put some things in perspective. I mean your view has hardly been changed. You still have a perfect view of the swamp bit nearer you etc. I thought that the fence in the title was going to be all about a view out of a window destroyed or no light getting in.

However, to calmly enquire with various authorities about the legality of such a thing is perfectly fine. And as someone else noted, that is so going to blow over before Xmas.

And

happypoobum · 25/06/2017 20:12

Do Amazon sell woodworm?

Surely he isn't allowed to put a fence up any old place he likes when he doesn't own the land?

Sciurus83 · 25/06/2017 20:14

The horror!!! Monster people! Straight to the Canal and River Trust, I'm pretty sure they can't do that!

Hassled · 25/06/2017 20:14

I don't understand the purpose of the fence. Yes, it means you can't see him wanking on the deck, but surely people the other side of the river still can? Or am I being dense? Also - does he have special fence storage in his boat? Is it portable fencing? Because that's just weird.

PreppedForDiagrams · 25/06/2017 20:15

It's a privately owned marina on the inside. But I'm not sure about the banks of a river.

OP posts:
Jux · 25/06/2017 20:20

If the other boat owners see it will they all want one? I think they shouldn't be allowed to set precedent.

JaneEyre70 · 25/06/2017 20:21

Could you aim a few fireworks towards it??? In all seriousness I would contact your local council about it, it's very anti-social and territorial. If you want privacy, why live on a river............

Thiscantreallybehappening · 25/06/2017 20:22

I am pretty he is going to be told to take the fence down. He has paid for mooring that doesn't mean he owns the land and can put fences up. Like I said earlier the fence is also a safety hazard. Don't worry op but start contacting authorities, marina manager etc tomorrow so you can get this sorted out quickly.

PreppedForDiagrams · 25/06/2017 20:26

Neighbour said "Bloody hell, that's awful". So that's good.

LuluJakey1 · 25/06/2017 20:35

It is just thoughtless and selfish behaviour by the boat owner. I would write a very polite, very English, letter first of all. (But I am a wimp)

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 25/06/2017 20:35

Nothing to add but I need to see the outcome of this. Grin

RaspberryBeretHoopla · 25/06/2017 20:36

🔥 🔥

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/06/2017 20:42

What is the purpose of the fence? Do some boat owners use their bit of grass for sunbathing , barbecues etc? Why don't they sit on their boat instead?
I just don't see the point of it

herethereandeverywhere · 25/06/2017 20:43

There must be planning/some other sort of bulding/development restrictions, surely? I know that where I lived (rows of terraced houses in London, not so pretty but...) there is a rule about not having a front wall over a certain height - some people tried the 6 foot high fencing thing and a few weeks later had to pull it down - if no-one currently fences in by the river there must be a reason/rule/precedent about it, either via local planning rules/regs or covenants over the land - speak to local planning officers or those responsible for the waterway if not planners.

witsender · 25/06/2017 20:45

If they only have a mooring they don't own that fence surely? You can't just go popping fences up wherever you feel like it

ChickyChickyChoccy · 25/06/2017 20:47

Is very inoffensive sorry. You are miles away from it and actually is 3panles of shaped fence with a see thru lattice.
If I had that for a view I would think I was in heaven...

PossumInAPearTree · 25/06/2017 20:47

I would have to march down and ask what the hell they were doing.

Maybe try British waterways tomorrow? I'm sure they are in charge of our local canal and all ongoing stuff to do with it.

witsender · 25/06/2017 20:48

Have a look into the planning around those 'unofficial' permanent moorings...you may well find that they are not. As the regs are quite specific about what can be used as such. If the planning is not as it should be point out to the marina that they are in breach of the rules around the use of such moorings, and that they may want to consider how much attention they draw to these moorings by allowing the residents to erect fences

PossumInAPearTree · 25/06/2017 20:49

Does your garden run right to the river? Is there a public footpath on the river bank?

OohMavis · 25/06/2017 20:51

Hmm, looking closely at the photo there seems to be two different, older fences in front of the new one.

Seems like there's a precedent for fencing in that spot. Maybe they just thought they'd 'replace' it?

I don't see how it spoils the view personally, it doesn't look all that pretty to begin with. There I said it.
