I'll start by saying I am absolutely furious. So bear with angry spelling and grammar.

We are incredibly lucky and live on a marina on a river. It's very beautiful. On the river are temporary moorings for riverboats. This is lovely. Some people have unofficial 'permanent' moorings and have made their gardens pretty and mow the grass. This is nice.

3 weeks ago a shiny new boat showed up directly opposite our house. It's a lovely boat, nice to see out of the window.

Yesterday THEY PUT UP A THREE PANEL OVER SIX FOOT FUCKING FENCE. See pic.

Would I be unreasonable to burn that fucker to the ground and also put a hole in his stupid boat?

If I had that for a view I would think I was in heaven

it doesn't look all that pretty to begin with

I do love Mumsnet Grin

It doesn't look any worse than the shed on the left. He just wants some privacy from you OP.

PreppedForDiagrams · 25/06/2017 21:01

Does your garden run right to the river? Is there a public footpath on the river bank?

It goes...

Our house
Our garden
A low wall
Footpath
swamp (not actual swamp. Marina moorings)
Riverbank
River

Shed on the left is a listed boathouse.

Smaller fence in front of HorrorFence is just a low wickery/willowy thing. No issue at all.

If he wants privacy maybe he should put his boat somewhere else on a quite long river. A mile up there are no houses at all.

Ooo, that's a fence and a form of parking. I call mumsnet bingo!

Yeah I don't think the marina own the riverbank.

If you google there was uproar in York where a marina applied for planning permission to put a fence up on a river bank and locals were outraged at being fenced off the river view. Protests, etc. Not sure what the outcome was.

DailyFailAreCunts · 25/06/2017 21:15

Ask the marina if he's actually allowed to put up a fence, bet he isn't.

PreppedForDiagrams · 25/06/2017 21:17

The marina owner will not care. I'm absolutely sure about this.

Interesting. So who might..? I'm guessing environment agency or local council?

Is not on canal and waterway trust maps so don't imagine they'll be able to do anything?

DH said something about riparian rights and responsibilities.
Go to Living On The Edge
It says, "If your land boundary is next to a watercourse it is assumed you own the land up to the centre of the watercourse, unless it is owned
by someone else.
• If a watercourse runs alongside your garden wall or hedge you should check your property deeds to see if the wall or hedge marks your boundary. If the watercourse marks the boundary, it is assumed you own the land up to the centre of the watercourse."
Does that help??

PreppedForDiagrams · 25/06/2017 21:27

Not really, as we have a clear boundary and then a footpath. So we don't own any bank of anything /of what you can see in pics.

But thank your DP for trying Grin

Dammit!

buckeejit · 25/06/2017 21:51

I'd be pissed off about that & certainly wouldn't do it if I was mooring up somewhere. Hope you get riverview justice OP!

Sairelou · 25/06/2017 21:52

Oh come on OP, you should know that we don't need a description of the area, we need a diagram Grin

PossumInAPearTree · 25/06/2017 22:58

If the marina owner doesn't have permission for permanent moorings and you threaten to shop him in then I'm guessing he may start caring.

PossumInAPearTree · 25/06/2017 22:59

I reckon British waterways will own the bank, looks like they're now the riverandcanaltrust or something.

Notknownatthisaddress · 25/06/2017 23:07

I can't see the problem. You have hardly got any view over there anyway, as other things are blocking your view of the river... And I expect the fence is temporary.

That said, it is an odd thing to do, to put a 3 panel fence there. I mean why??? Confused

PastaOfMuppets · 25/06/2017 23:45

What a pity you've shown that you don't like it. You could've snuck down in the middle of the night and just pushed it over.
