To think that if you can't afford the £500 deposit

You shouldn't be booking a 15k wedding for 11 weeks time hoping that someone (your parents) will pay for all of it, including the deposit that is needed immediately for a venue they haven't even viewed!

Bride is a 20 year old on minimum wage in a full time job..

Groom is a 23 year old who is at uni receiving student loans.

Have they talked to anyone yet to ask them?

Are you the parents being expected to pay for it?

If I ever got married, I wouldnt ask my DM for anything. She contributed to two weddings, she's done more than enough for us.

If you cant afford a wedding either save up or just do it on the cheap.

It's a stately home so I think 15k is probably conservative. They want all the trimmings, a church wedding, flowers, 4 bridesmaids, canapés, champagne, 3 course wedding breakfast for 50, evening reception, disco, big dress, suit hire, cars.....

And they don't have £500 between them.

Surely it's between them and their parents? Either the parents are happy to pay in which case fine, and that's probably why the couple went ahead.

Or they have no reason to think the parents will pay, and the parents won't, in which case it won't go ahead, also fine.

15k in less than 3 months and they dont currently have £500??

It depends.

If they are spoilt by their parents who will be happy to pay for everything, then why not. I know a few people whose parents have paid and will pay for everything. The lack of ambition and general energy from their kids is staggering, believe it or not

If the young couple is completely deluded, then they are ridiculous.

If I can afford it, I would be more than happy to pay for my kids wedding, as long as they do something with their life. Not sure I'll be able to afford 15k unfortunately.

Isn't 20k the cost of an average wedding? Went to one last month that apparently cost 25k not including the honeymoon!

And no the parents aren't happy to pay apparently but I can tell they're also frightened of upsetting the bride. The grooms parents are apparently paying 4k

no, 4k sounds very tight if they get married in this country. I would advise them to try abroad, even with a low pound they might find slightly more value for money.

They don't want to get married abroad. They want a lavish church and country house wedding.

There are some venues that will do a package for a weekday wedding for in the region of £5k if you are willing to make lots of compromises. The legal bit alone (notice of marriage and registrars) will cost around £500.
