DSis school is saying it's to enhance work ethic and get you use to the work place by following rules like these.

Cannot think of many work places who would purposely make you uncomfortable like this

DS is still in utero. I'm praying they change these stupid rules nationally very soon, and make it bad practise to force children to swelter like this.

I'm from Germany and was shocked that it is legal in the UK to discriminate against girls by forcing them to wear skirts at school.

Not much surprised about this, though, confirms every stereotype about the British, and unlike the abovementioned sexism, it is not directly against laws that any civilised country should have.

I suppose someone working in a bank might find it useful ... but then, those workplaces that require formal clothing usually have better air conditioning than most schools ...

Most schools (all the ones I've worked in, and I've been teaching nearly 30 years) allow removal of blazers in hot weather. I agree that they should and if your DCs doesn't, then make a fuss. If this is just observation, remember you can't see what happens inside the schoo,during the day.
Teachers do precious little 'swanning around' regardless of what they are wearing.

Governesses are allowed to remove their corsets nowadays? I am shocked.

If they're going to be stereotypically British, then they could at least do it thoroughly.

Meh, I see no need for the blazer at all in this weather.

I went to a very prestigious grammar and no one wore blazers in the Summer.

How pointless, carrying around an item you won't be making much use of.

DSis dared to take her blazer off without being asked last week. The reply from the teacher was 'Now you've done that you can keep it on for the entire lesson'

My Mum and Dsis rightly fucking so got an apology from headmaster

UK schools just adore rules and regulations. They never met one they didn't like!
Wrong colour stitching on the inside of your shoes? Can't go to school! Hair a mm too short or too long? Go home!

Its no wonder their test scores are so low on an international level really, is it?

ilove Colleagues at work fill me in on how strict their children's schools are being with uniforms. It's not just Dsis school. It annoys me quite a lot, frankly

We are being very lax.. but the building is fully air conned and actually not that hot, so I think they'd cope even if they still had to wear blazers etc!

I work in a school - I also have to wear a jacket until the head says it's okay not to!

My school was ridiculous for uniform regulations . We had thick woollen blazers (that stank when it rained! Imagine a classroom full of them) we were to have blazers on at all times outside of the school even in the blistering hot sun (our VP would skulk around the bus stops and hand out detentions) but we were not allowed to wear them in the classroom when it was fucking freezing! Where is the logic?

I don't think you can enforce school uniform in Scotland.

Sounds absolutely bizarre to me - when I worked in an office, people look their suit jackets off when it was hot, they might put them on again to enter a meeting but it would be removed two seconds later.

It's ridiculous.
I work in a professional environment - a law firm - and no one sits at their desk doing work in a suit jacket!!!

Well we've had an email from our school to say that we can send our DC in wearing PE kit tomorrow due to the weather so it's not all schools.

ASauvignon you lucky thing re. Aircon..I'm currently dreading the heat in my 'oven' (classroom) tomorrow, and will be taking my fans in from home to keep my students cooler....we don't swan; we don't have time, and tomorrow we will be sweating about keeping our students as cool as possible.

My dds secondary school has polo shirts and sweatshirts - smart but comfortable.
New head is bringing in blazers and ties for new starters from September. Thankfully existing students can continue to wear the old uniform.

Actually most of the women who worked in my office didn't wear suits. Lots of client contact but they just had to look smart - and that would include making sure they didn't turn into a sweaty mess walking to a meeting on a hot day (applicable to both men and women) so needed to be dressed appropriately for the weather.

Its not. There are no specific laws enforcing school uniform, but equality laws have been used to challenge uniform in both directions. Few schools don't allow trousers for girls for this reason.

I've worked at a school that doesn't- its living hell. Kids don't have the same skills, maturity and strength of character as adults- teaching them can be like herding cats. Uniform isn't a big issue, but done properly it can be helpful. Most teachers wouldn't make a kid put a blazer on in a hot classroom.

Dds school uniform is a woollen skirt, a jumper & a blazer she is going to end up being ill if they don't let them take some of it off. School is old, no air con

I find it bizarre - at my school (all girls if that makes a difference) the blazer was just our summer coat. It wasn't part of the "indoor" uniform at all.

We also had open-necked cotton summer dresses which, with a cardi, were much more sensible for this type of weather!
