To hate Lily Allen

I can't stand her. Always popping up somewhere that she's not required to put her 2 cents in. It's like her music is so shit and unpopular she's decided to just stick her oar in wherever she can now. I've never disliked anyone this strongly before (that I've never met!)

Okay. So you devote energy to hating Lily Allen but not others. Seems a little disproportionate to think - yep, she is the one I am going to bitch about on Mumsnet.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 03:42

scottish

But you could say the same about you. Why are you devoting the time to posting about the OP but not about other, more important things?

TheLaughingGnome · 16/06/2017 03:45

thing is, Lily Allen has a voice that other's don't. I'm glad she's using it for her neighbours, and I don't think she's exaggerating about the numbers who died. Time will tell, of course, but fire fighters are saying anyone about floor 14 are unlikely to survive. That's heartbreaking, and LA is quite right to raise it if reporters want to talk to her.

user1497403588 · 16/06/2017 03:49

YABVU to think you 'hate' someone that doesn't and will never know you even exist

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 03:50

gnome Don't you think there's a reason why the firefighters and police haven't released an official number yet? I don't think they're keeping it quiet to be horrible.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 03:51

araiwa wow, what a measured and mature response.

BoysofMelody · 16/06/2017 03:52

That's funny op because Lily Allen speaks very highly of you

Oh wait she doesn't because she's never heard of you , because you're an anonymous sadsack on an internet forum who gets their kicks spending the wee small hours of the morning, obsessing over how much you 'hate' (not mildly irritated by or dislike, but hate) over a celebrity who they've never met.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 03:57

boys so no one is allowed any opinion on any celebrity because celebrities are, what, BETTER than us 'sadsacks' on the internet?

Give over.

TheLaughingGnome · 16/06/2017 04:01

Exactly KoalaDownUnder

araiwa · 16/06/2017 04:02

bigyellowjumper- thank you

VilootShesCute · 16/06/2017 04:14

I really dislike the word hate. Such a strong word to use when taking about other human beings who aren't bad. I've just been woken up at 4am by a sodding peacock shouting in the woods over the road but I don't hate the thing 😩

ClappingThighs · 16/06/2017 04:14

Araiwa bravo 👏

Boys haven't you moaned about a celeb or politician etc before? Just because I've written it on here why is that much different?

Some of these responses are acting as if I've just started an I hate LA club, I'm not spending my life obsessing over her guys, it's just a thread which (pardon me if I'm mistaken) is what threads are for.

Oh and I live abroad so it's not the small hours. Why are you up also spreading hate at 4am lovely boys? 😘

OP posts:
ClappingThighs · 16/06/2017 04:15

Haha Viloot not the worst cock to be woken up by at 4am Blush

Totally, 1000% agree she has a voice which most others dont, and I'd love to listen to it most of the time she wasn't spewing non truths. She should realise she's in a great position and use her voice wisely, she'd be highly respected if she did I believe.

BigYellow excellent..

And all the people who are like 'oh you HATE her, what about Hitler/Theresa May/whatever', like, people say 'hate' all the time. I hate prawns. I hate cheese and onion crisps. I hate this traffic.

ClappingThighs · 16/06/2017 04:33

koala she can still live there and help like others have been doing without giving out useless interviews and speculations. Adele was a fab example imo.

bigyellow hit the nail on the head with that hate comment

If in 6 months, 12 months, 18 months, she is still pushing for justice for the people affected by this, I might change my mind a bit. But she does seem to jump from cause to cause a bit.

BoysofMelody · 16/06/2017 04:49

boys so no one is allowed any opinion on any celebrity because celebrities are, what, BETTER than us 'sadsacks' on the internet?

No, of course not, but saying you hate someone you've never met. Not actually, just thinking about it, but starting a thread devoted to it, is pretty petty and unpleasant behaviour.

Oh and I live abroad so it's not the small hours. Why are you up also spreading hate at 4am

I work odd hours. This is my break. I'm not spreading hate, I'm just find your actions a bit obsessive odd and unnecessary.

Like me you watched the news coverage of a burning tower-block in which 100s of people died in circumstances so horrible that I can't actually began to imagine what their last minutes on earth were like. Like me you saw their relatives deep in grief, you've seen acts of courage and people rallying around to support people you've never met, you saw the legitimate anger that people expressed that their concerns about the safety of the building hadn't been taken on board, yet your abiding memory from that coverage or the thing they really want to talk about is 'I fucking hate that Lilly Allen'.

Boys haven't you moaned about a celeb or politician etc before? Just because I've written it on here why is that much different?

Yes of course, I've moaned about the actions of said people and have moaned about Theresa May's words and actions quite a bit since the election was called, I greatly dislike the things she says and does and their consequences, but I don't hate the person. There's a a world of difference between. Theresa May is being really blinkered in her Brexit strategy and she's going to lead this country off an economic cliff edge.' and 'I fucking hate that Theresa May, always fucking gurning on the TV and her legoman hair, she only wears it like that to distract from the fact she's an utter fucking moron.'

Plus Lily Allen has no power to shape your life, enact laws or generally bugger up your standard of living in the way a politician can.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 05:01

boys so it's the wording you don't like?

And I think the OP can feel sorry and angry for the people in Grenfell and dislike a celebrity's response at the same time. After all, one could equally say 'you watched that coverage and yet you can be bothered to criticise someone on the internet for their choice of words against Lily Allen?'

BoysofMelody · 16/06/2017 05:30

boys so it's the wording you don't like?

No, the two things are qualitatively different. Hating someone's actions and hating a person. It isn't just a choice of words.

If she'd said

'I think illy Allen was wrong in some of her views in that interview on Ch4.'

or

Lilly Allen was insensitive in that interview and she shouldn't be making statements about the number of deceased
or

Lily Allen shouldn't be talking about something like this in which she has no direct involvement'

I really wouldn't have a problem with any of the above and would agree with some of the sentiment.

But the OP didn't attack her actions, but the person in a 'I hate Lily Allen rant.'

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 05:35

In my opinion, it is just word choice really.

To me 'I hate Lily Allen' basically means 'I strongly dislike the actions of Lily Allen', not 'I think Lily Allen is the worst person to walk the earth and should die'.

It is just perception really. Plenty of people use the word 'hate' in that sense. Like I said above, when I say 'I hate prawns', I don't mean I think prawns should be eradicated from the earth. I mean I strongly dislike the taste of prawns.

It doesn't seem a debate worth having since the OP has qualified what she meant.

Speculation helps no-one.
Speculation by Champagne Socialists, not trained in fire investigations with an inability to engage brain before gob helps even less.
