To hate Lily Allen

I can't stand her. Always popping up somewhere that she's not required to put her 2 cents in. It's like her music is so shit and unpopular she's decided to just stick her oar in wherever she can now. I've never disliked anyone this strongly before (that I've never met!)

On her interview on channel 4, she said exactly what people are thinking in terms of numbers. Emergency services haven't given a number because they don't know but people in the area have a good idea of how many people are missing and that's where it is coming from. Her dad may be Keith Allen but she grew up on a council estate, she went down there to help out & if she can help voice concerns its no bad thing as they need to keep focus on this it can not be swept under the carpet.

Disliking Lily Allen doesn't make you a misogynist. That's a cheap insult. There's a similar thread running about Owen Jones where he's called a prick, a twat, a penis, a dick and much more. That doesn't make those posters homophobic.

FWIW one of the things I love about Lily's music is how outspoken she is on political, social and personal topics. But that was when she took the time to think through what she was writing. Now she just wades in on everything with her often rather ill thought out opinions.

MrsOver ..?? I love outspoken women, and outspoken people in general, but I like to hear their opinions only when they have a valid point to make. It seems Lily Allen only pipes up to cause controversy or start an argument.

Lady yes her most recent comments on Grenfell have prompted this thread, although I've disliked her for a long time due to her constant unnecessary involvement in any highly publicised events. Are you one of those who can't be part of a debate without throwing insults?

Koala not being horrible in the slightest. People are allowed to dislike whoever they please, what's fucking horrible about this thread?

So she went there to help and spoke out. She didn't say anything outrageous, self-centred, she said what is emerging to be reality. What's pissing you off more? Lilli Allen or that people died because their dog kennels were hidden behind a layer of a highly flammable material so not to offend the posh and superior neighbours?

Many many people, celebrities or not, have done wonderful things for the victims of this awful tradgedy. Just not all of them feel the need to speak to the biggest news outlets with their thoughtless speculations. She may have opened her doors to the victims but the random death toll numbers she's throwing around aren't helpful.

Also this wasn't a thread about Grenfel, this was a thread specifically about LA.

Angela if you listen to her interview she's purely speculating. She's not bringing any good publicity to the cause and imo certainly not helping anything by doing so.

angela I think it is great she is trying to raise publicity, but I actually think in the end she does more harm than good. She says stuff in a way that is easy for politicians/misogynists/people who hate the poor to dismiss - and they then think 'oh, everyone who supports the poor is like that.'

It doesn't mean you dislike that person/thing to the exclusion of everyone else. In fact, I would never even say 'I hate Hitler', it sounds utterly ludicrous. That word has a fairly weak meaning in its common usage.

Aren't helpful to who? The dead, the surviving, those who lost their relatives there?
She speaks to the biggest media outlets, because she can, because she has their ear through her name. That's a privilege the survivors don't have.
And you can't say this is a thread about her only - clearly it's a reaction to her interviews about the fire so stop being hypocritical about it.

And that's the biggest problem. They're looking for emotions, tears, shock in the survivors because to the media, they aren't individuals but a mass of victims to be milked for the most emotional response.

Clandestino as I said this isn't a Grenfell thread and my thoughts on Lily do not reflect my thoughts on Grenfell - obviously. Nor am I saying my annoyance for her overshadows the tragedy and anyone who thinks that's what I'm trying to say is not entirely there wrong.
