To hate Lily Allen

ClappingThighs · 16/06/2017 01:00

I can't stand her. Always popping up somewhere that she's not required to put her 2 cents in. It's like her music is so shit and unpopular she's decided to just stick her oar in wherever she can now. I've never disliked anyone this strongly before (that I've never met!)

OP posts:
brexitstolemyfuture · 19/06/2017 09:34

It is a prestigious award. How many have you won?

BigYellowJumper · 19/06/2017 09:36

I've not won any. I don't think that excludes me from having an opinion though.

I've never been Prime Minister either, but I still feel like I can have an opinion on Theresa May.

hackmum · 19/06/2017 09:39

southeastdweller: "if you'd read even just a few pages of this thread you'd know how tactless and inappropriate some of her remarks were."

And therefore it's OK to hate her? Don't you think that's a bit extreme? If you hate someone like Lily Allen, how do you feel about ISIS?

I'm surprised, not just that people feel this degree of hate for an outspoken pop singer, but that they think it's acceptable to share it on a public forum. It's as if they feel proud of it.

BigYellowJumper · 19/06/2017 09:40

hackmum we also had a massive discussion about the word 'hate'.

This is why you read the thread before commenting.

Birdsgottaf1y · 19/06/2017 09:48

Interesting that the same media that proclaim those caught up in the fire "were missing" have used "feared dead" immediately about the Portugal Forest Fire people.

Portugal is already in mourning, whilst we argue about a Celebrity making points that some of which are slowly emerging into facts.

You could see children dying at the windows on day time television, all because of penny pinching, i'm shocked at the lack of reaction, tbh.

Lweji · 19/06/2017 09:58

Did they about Portugal?

Portugal has only reported actual bodies as they were found.
It rose from 17, to 42, 57, 62, adjusted to 61, back to 62.
Those were the headlines.
Not sure how the British Media would report missing people.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 19/06/2017 10:02

Yeah apparently, when people say they hate someone, they mean it in the same way as eg. they hate the way their DH snores.

It's a new meaning, see.

BigYellowJumper · 19/06/2017 10:07

histiny

It's not a new meaning: people do use words in different ways.

We can go back over it again 20 times if you like, or we can not bother, and you can go and read the thread all over again if that's what you prefer.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 19/06/2017 10:09

Yes, I hate my family, especially my children.

  • Just using words in a 'different way' there.
BigYellowJumper · 19/06/2017 10:47

histiny

You can stretch words to the point of ridiculousness to try to deflect from genuine discussion if you like. Personally I find that a little futile especially considering the OP said upthread that she realises the word 'hate' wasn't the right word choice.

Perhaps read up on semantics if you are interested in that side of the argument. I, for one, find it quite pointless to continue arguing about it in this context.

StarHeartDiamond · 19/06/2017 10:52

Birds- you don't know that it's penny pinching. Could have been a cladding system failure. Wait until the investigation conclusions.

ShatnersWig · 19/06/2017 11:09

I see that while the confirmed death toll has risen, the Police have also confirmed that 5 people reported missing have been found safe and well. Which is what many of us said would happen and precisely why the Police were right in their approach to announcing figures and why some of us felt Ms Allen's comments were ill advised

histinyhandsarefrozen · 19/06/2017 11:17

Hate her. I can't stand her. I've never disliked anyone this strongly before

A question of semantics, got it.

sleepingdragons · 19/06/2017 14:57

Stop bitching about Lily Allen - and consider for a minute maybe she has a point about the numbers.

Don't want to hear it from a celebrity? Fine, watch this and hear it from a local.

This is was a fire of EPIC proportions. The loss of life will be huge. It's not good enough that they are sticking to the protocol of only giving the numbers identified. The scale of this needs to be acknowledged. It cannot be swept under the carpet - it will fester and damage us all if we deny what has happened here.

user1480459555 · 19/06/2017 15:41

I have just seen the news that 5 people reported missing have been found alive and safe. That's one of the reasons no one should start spouting off numbers early on.

I also have read (not sure if true or not) that tenants are being asked to own up to subletting their properties as the numbers of people alive, known dead or reported missing do not add up to how many people were meant to be living there.

Will be interesting to see how many, if any, do actually admit to subletting seeing as it is not legal

abilockhart · 19/06/2017 16:05

What a pompous post, user1480459555.

derxa · 19/06/2017 16:16

sleeping DJ Isla seems a bit 'out there'

Lweji · 19/06/2017 16:45

Surely they should be given an amnesty in that respect. It would be incredibly sad if investigations were hindered by fear of consequences.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 19/06/2017 16:48

Yes i agree lweji

It would be such a shame not to get answers because people are too afraid

LogicalPsycho · 19/06/2017 16:51

I think her heart is in the right place it's just her brain that isn't

Grenfell Tower fire: death toll raised to 79 as minute's silence held
"Five people have now been formally identified as having died in tower block blaze with 74 missing and presumed dead"

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/jun/19/grenfell-tower-fire-death-toll-rises-to-79-police-say

"The identification process is likely to be lengthy. Some residents were from other countries and it will take time for police to receive information such as dental records."

"“It is so important to me that the families have every confidence in our identification procedure and processes so they know it is their loved ones being returned to them and that is why it is so exhaustive, and it can be very time consuming. But my absolute commitment to all the families and loved ones of those who died is that we will do this as quickly as possible,” Cundy said."

"The number of victims may change as there may have been people in the block that night whom family and friends did not know were there. Equally there may also be people the police believe to be missing but who are safe. Police have appealed for any such people to confirm they are safe."

The personal stories are also coming out, of the actually identified people and now that authorities have a better picture of those really missing.

It seems to me that some people are just into complaining. Maybe it is put into better use in relation to the council and how the building was maintained.

user1480459555 · 19/06/2017 17:57

Pompous because it's the truth?

People trying to find out exact numbers are hampered by the fact that tenants decide to break the law and sublet their property. Social housing is not allocated in order for people to profit from it

abilockhart · 19/06/2017 22:32

You come across as hideous and uncaring, user1480459555.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 19/06/2017 22:37

Sleeping

I tend to agree with you . You look at it , you hear the stories , you know people were asleep and you know that it housed so many people ..... 79 no way

NSEA · 19/06/2017 22:37

Her heart is in the tight place. She works very hard to challenge people's negative views of those who are not as well off as some. I think to hate someone like that says more about you than LA.

I admire her decency.
