To hate Lily Allen

I can't stand her. Always popping up somewhere that she's not required to put her 2 cents in. It's like her music is so shit and unpopular she's decided to just stick her oar in wherever she can now. I've never disliked anyone this strongly before (that I've never met!)

OP posts:
nannybeach · 16/06/2017 06:56

BTW NOT talking about the terrible fire (have been in one, got the scars to prove it)

Sparklingbrook · 16/06/2017 06:58

Well I have just heard Simon Cowell is arranging a charity single. Not sure what I think of that TBH.

SeaWitchly · 16/06/2017 06:59

I can't help but feel that if she was a man, no one would blink at her opining. The television, radio, social media are full of opinionated men giving forth about this and that and no one seems to mind. Lily Allen is a woman therefore she must either be learned expert or pipe the fuck down. Her thoughts are otherwise dismissable.
If this was Gary fucking Barlow or whatever other irrelevant tosser you've got a pash on, you'd be applauding him.

Agree with you pictish

YABVVU OP.

MrsPeelyWaly · 16/06/2017 07:00

Saw a lot of praise for Adele for showing up though

Lilly could learn from the way Adele, and others have done it, but then Adele's career isn't over and she doesn't need the publicity of Grenfell and the other bandwagons Lilys jumped on recently to try and get it going again.

And all this nonsense - if it was a bloke saying what she's saying Hmm An attention seeker is an attention seeker regardless of whats octave they sing.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 07:02

Not sure what I think of a charity single either.

Is that what the residents want? Has he asked them? Doubt it.

Just another publicity stunt from him.

If Tom Hardy was on the news saying 'the tenants have told me the death toll is closer to 150 people and I think the government are trying to hide it', there would be swooning all over mn, saying what a fucking hero he is and what a disgrace.

Whomp there it is.

YABU and weird, OP. Carry on with your bad self and continue to hate someone you don't even know, though. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 16/06/2017 07:03

I like how she says what she thinks - not always wisely but she wears her heart on her sleeve

Sparklingbrook · 16/06/2017 07:04

SC said it would be appalling for him to do nothing. He could open his own wallet I guess.
The thought of a Band Aid style single doesn't sit well with me.

Did she actually grow up on a council estate? She went to Bedales!

nannybeach · 16/06/2017 07:08

MrsPeelyWaly well done.

sharklovers · 16/06/2017 07:11

That's mildly foul stop I could say much, much worse.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 07:13

I don't think it has anything to do with her being a woman in this case. Maybe for some people, but I am normally outspoken about women being shut up about stuff.

Like I said, James Corden and others were criticised too after talking about Manchester.

I think the issue is this: what are we talking about right now? Lily Allen. Not what happened, not how shit our government are, not how those people died for no reason. She has shifted the focus onto her. There are victims speaking up but people would rather talk about her. There was one woman in particular on Victoria Derbyshire last night who gave a very detailed account of what happened. Her name was Amina but surprise surprise I can't find the video now. Can find plenty about Lily Allen though...

FreakOfNurture · 16/06/2017 07:13

I saw her interview with Jon Snow without realising who she was. I thought she made some bloody good points.

Unlike the Council leader later on Newsnight.

Calyrical · 16/06/2017 07:13

Oh, as if Lily Allen grew up on a council estate! Grin If she grew up on a council estate, I'm Kate Middleton.

The thing is, a lot of (dare I say it) mediocre talent tries to move beyond that mediocrity by making some sort of "political" statement. When it is done well (think Ghost Town and Wonderland and a few others that spring to mind) it's fairly subtle. If the talent isn't really there it's not subtle in the slightest.

However, if the statement is a bang on trendy lefty one it can increase popularity amongst the young.

It irritates me as well.

YANBU, OP.

sleepingdragons · 16/06/2017 07:18

BigYellowJumper no, you are shifting the focus onto her.

SemiNormal · 16/06/2017 07:18

YANBU - her attitude in regards to Grenfell fire come across as virtue signalling in order to push her socialist agenda. I saw her trending on Twitter last night so checked her Twitter feed and found the whole thing entirely offensive - it's completely like she is trying to make it all about her. Then getting peeved because she'd been dropped from a TV interview about in favour of someone from the council, you know, someone who might be able to shed a bit more light on events than she can.

HandbagKrabby · 16/06/2017 07:20

Great post pictish

Let's not look at what our elected officials are doing or saying, let's bitch about an upset pop star not wording their grief and anger in the 'correct' fashion. Who does she think she is anyway? She's no better than she ought to be. Some mn posters make me despair.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 07:20

sleeping

Am I indeed? And how am I doing that?

I agree that I am spending too much time talking about her when we should talk about other things. But I hardly think I am solely to blame.

The papers are full of her this morning.

God . I need to come off Mumsnet and social media and do something better instead

Like what though that's the fucking awful thing really - I am even worried to donate money again mainly because I would like reassurances that the money is being sensibly coordinated

As for Simon Cowell / do me a lemon

If my family had perished like that and if I was homeless I would want financial support , realistic advice , short term housing and easy acess to what's been donated

Not a fucking song

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 16/06/2017 07:26

Shark doesn't like her . We now know that !

hiimmumma · 16/06/2017 07:39

She has been on site helping as soon as the news broke.
She opened up her home to survivors
There are several sources saying there are 100+ fatalities, police and firemen on scene saying that but it's not being officially confirmed. I wonder why..
She didn't go there for publicity she went there to help and because she is famous the press picked up on that and so she is using it as a platform to vocalise how everyone is feeling down there.
What's the problem.
YABU to hate someone that's doing everything they can to help. You don't even know her. So rude.
Focus your negativity towards the people that are responsible for this.
